      A small amount of magnetism will be present in the rotor initially. This magnetism will produce an emf in the stator coils which will in turn generate a small current in the stator coils. Due to this flow of current, the emf will again increase thereby increasing the field current as well

      Actually the magnetic flux produced due to the field current is called as excitation.
      Because it is due to this flux that there will be an emf in the armature conductors which in turn causes the flow of current if the circuit is closed.

      Ia is the current flowing through the armature conductors and Ra is the resistance of the armature conductors.
