- Cedar Point's Top Thrill Dragster Animation from the announcement of the ride. Top Thrill Dragster was built to be the worlds tallest and fastest roller coaster in 2003. This video showed off what this ride was all about!

The 1990s/2000s was literally an amusement park "arms race" with the industry pushing itself for amusement operators.
@ThyPandora as cool as that sounded, I am glad we're past that too. Maybe it's the Maverick fan boy in me talking but I think designs got a lot more creative after rides like Kingda Ka and Dragster showed their true colors so to speak. Even Falcons Flight is at least a more elaborate track design than them, even if I have my doubts about it

One Wear Reviews CP always is quick to get new coasters. I mean, GateKeeper, Valravn, and Steel Vengeance all opened within only 5 years. (And of course they reopened Mantis as Rougarou in that time too)

The former ceo of cedar fair said they built it as a knee jerk reaction to six flags expanding Geauga Lake.
@@kevinwest2826 And then they did the ultimate power move and acquired and closed Geauga Lake. Still irks me to this day as I was too young to really enjoy that park and it was a much shorter drive than to Cedar Point for me.

I was at the park when they started building the hill on this thing. They didn’t have the track on yet so it was just the structure. My family and I were looking at it and wondering what the hell they were building because it certainly didn’t look like a roller coaster. It ended up being one of our favorite rides ever!
I could only imagine seeing that thing from the midway on its opening year
@@mikethewhizz5085 I was twelve at the time, but it was friggin' insane, and people were still reeling from Millennium Force in 2000. We thought that was insane when it was built, but three seasons (and years) later, Cedar Point blew the pieces of our already blown minds away with TTD.

i only went on it for one day, but it was sure a blast out of this world! Hopefully the CP team will come up with something just as thrilling if not even more in the future!
They just announced it reopening in 2024 20 years after dragster was announced

This was the video that made my 2003 trip to Cedar Point official. And man, this was the biggest thing happening in the industry at the time.
"You can breathe now" is a cheeky reference to the fact that this mightve been the only large coaster cedar point has built that was short enough in time for the average person to hold their breath through the entire ride

I imagine people in 2002 looking at this commercial and thinking: "Wow! It looks so real!"
And now, when a new ride gets announced, they're all like: "Look at that graphics. Awful.."
I thought it was bad even then. Not the quality of the image, but the simulation of the speed and acceleration of the train.
But still very cool and made me go Cedar Point in 2004.
Takes me back to a simpler time when EA Sports golf looked like this on the Sega Genesis : )

Who's watching this after the accident? Best of luck the the girl and her family. Tragic accident. Still, just a reminder that rollercoaster accidents are very rare and take a lot of human and ride error to happen.

This thing almost lived to see 20 years of racing, yet closed down for good.
As we know it it’s gone, but one day you’ll get to ride it again. Who knows, it may be a better experience.

Millennium is a much better thrill… Dragster may be taller, but the spiral on the way down ruins the momentum of the fall, and all you can see on your way down are steel beams and track. You don’t really FEEL the height. It’s a gimmick which harps back to an era where parks were more concerned about breaking records than offering full satisfying rides. I’m actually glad it’s coming down

Light Yagami Not to be mean in any way but your totally wrong, a strata coaster is a coaster that has a complete circuit and a height between 400-499 ft, superman at magic mountain doesnt have a complete circuit and its actually considered a shuttle coaster BUT you are correct about it being the first coaster to top 400 ft
