Citroen 2CV with Supercharged BMW GS1200 Swap || 154Hp/660Kg Classic - Retro Rides 2018

- Alex de Vries has evolved his quite unique Citroen 2CV that we have already shown on our Channel one year ago, and now it features the same BMW GS1200 Engine, but with the addition of a Rotrex Supercharged among some ohter goodies.
Now with 154Hp moving the lightweight Classic (only 660Kg), it becomes a far quicker machine that is only being left a bit behind by the Gearbox which is largely stock and made originally to cope with...28Hp ( !!??)
My father bought my mother a 2CV Charlston when they were all the rage after its James Bond film moment (he was in the trade), he told my mother they were imposible to turn over and with such a low power engine its best to carry as much speed as possible - the result was our local village terrorised by a crazy women in a maroon and black car - my father then asked asked her to tone it down a bit and she said: Why? everyone gets out of my way now...and she didn't.
Your mother knew that it is more fun to drive a slow car fast than it is to drive a fast car slow.
@@anderspedersen7488this is a fact few fully understand
Try it backwards and it rolls
Beautiful
All respect for keeping the original gear slector system
i have not found a kit that use other gear system just orginal... or visa/gsa 5 speed could be used
What I like about the 2CV is that it's potent bmw flat twin sounds just like it's original arthritic lump! A perfect Q car!..
Could not have put it better myself...
The Innate Nature in man recognizes what is good and bad, what is true and false. It recognizes that the Attributes of Allah must be True, Unique, and All-Perfect. It does not feel comfortable towards any kind of degradation of His Attributes not does it qualities to the Creator. Many who became “discontent with God” did so because of the practices of the Church in medieval Europe and because of the claims of “god dwelling in a son” and the concept of the “original sin”. However, they “escaped” into worshipping a new theory called “mother nature” as well as the “material” World. With the advancement of materialistic technology others from different religions adopted the concept of “forgetting about God” and “let us live this life and enjoy it!”, not realizing that they have chosen the worship of the “original god” of Rome: Desire!.
NOW we can see that all of this materialistic and secular progress produced a spiritual vacuum that led to complex social, economical, political, and psychological problems. Many of those who “fled” their “religions” are in search again. Some try to “escape” the complexity of their daily lives via various means. Those who had the chance to examine the Qur’an and Islam, proceed with a complete way of life that relates man to establish a purpose for his presence on earth. This is well recognized in the Attributes of Allah and what does He require from man. He does not want man to be enslaved to any false deity: nature, drugs, lust, money, other man, desire, or sex. He provides man with the proofs that He is the One who can redeem so that man can free himself from the slavery to any form of creation and to turn to his Creator Alone. THIS Creator Has Perfect Attributes. He is the First, nothing is before Him, the Ever Living. To Him is the Final Return where everyone will be dealt with in the Most Perfect and Just way. He does not begot nor He is begotten. Those who attribute Divinity to Jesus forget or ignore the fact that Jesus was in a mother’s womb. He needed nutrition; he was born and grew up to be a man. He was trusted with the Gospel as a Message to the Children of Israel: “For there is One God, and one mediator (i.e. a messenger) between God and men (the Children of Israel), the man Christ Jesus) (I Timothy 2:5). A man-messenger calling his nation not to worship him: “But in vain they do worship me!” (Mathew 15:9). A man who needs to eat, walk, sleed, rest, etc.. cannot have Divine Attributes because he is in need and God (Allah) is Self-Sufficient.

The original 2cv engine was based on (copied) the original BMW flat twin
@@malakiblunt no: only ONE prototype of TPV (before 1939) was tested with a BMW flat twin and flat heads...The all first 2cv's (1939) had a water cooled flat twin OHV, and in 1948 was a forced air cooled OHV

Reminds me of the trip to school/home as a kid in the early 90's. Very nostalgic for me even tho its semi stripped I can imagine the full interior. The funny windows and the vents on the dash, the sound is quite similar too. Ahhh man
Heard the first gearchange and I was like "hmm, not exactly aggressive"
then I saw he had the Stock gearbox & Gearstick... "oh, this is a brave man"
I can only imagine myself arm wrestling with that infernal thing as I'm downshifting for a corner... sailing one handed into the barrier.
That GS1200 has an excellent gearbox. Yes, BMW. Why on earth would one gamble and keep that low power 2CV gearbox? Well, because this man is British? They call it excentric, right?
R1200GS gearbox has no reverse, plus the citroen drivetrain was surprisingly overbuilt considering the underpowered engine it was mounted to. I know some swaps use the 5 speed from a Citroen Visa which is stronger as well. @@voornaam3191
all conversion kit ive found use the orginal gearbox with adapter...@@voornaam3191
The greabox on the 2CV is actually very smooth, and downshifts very easily, with no cracks, all the way down to 1st gear, which can literally be used to stop the car, if the brakes ever give up. It's the safest car I've ever driven.
Love the way it sounds like the original engine!😍😍😎
Power to weight ratio is better than a MINI JCW from 2020 or any/most other modern hatchbacks.
1976 I'm riding along on my motorbike and I look over the hedge to my right and I see a load of brightly coloured 2CVs racing around a dirt track, the area was often used for scrambles meetings but this day it was used by the off-road 2CV owners club (never heard of them until then) anyway I went to watch and they had great fun, all privateers in homemade rally cars with super high suspension, home cut tyre treads with all cars fitted with halon extinguisher systems to rally spec with full weld in roll cages, its the only time I've seen it or even heard about it, talking to the owner-drivers they said it was one of the cheapest ways to get into competitive motorsports, the cars were airborne as much as they were planted in the mud, back then you could pick up a 2CV that worked for £100+, the engines were limited to to a certain BHP, which as I remember was low, something like 75BHP butthey had all the extra g-fast parts fitted to them, posh intake manifolds, hand fabricated headers, oil catch tanks, you name it they had it,
as I said I never heard of 2CV off-road racing since or before, do they still do it,
I’ve never wanted a 2CV until now - that looks fun!
To build a fast car off that notoriously slow 2cv. That's a hot idea.
Fast 2CV's are extremely cool.
Amazing. That sound brings memories back.
Some people would say “only 150BHP?”, but they don’t realize what it weighs
???bhp propelling a paper clip.. i`d still put inwheel hub motors in the rear end just to give an extra push :):)
That's a clean roll cage.
Not enough triangulation for my taste.

Looks like the old movies, where they run it on double speed.
So, I'm thinking that's a far-out car, then he parks it behind a Reliant Robin with a GT1 wing, wide arches and alloys. And a towbar. HEAD. EXPLODES.
You want see the reliant go up that hill puts the 2cv in the shade!
I’d love that car, what an inspired build
Wonderful editing. Fun car.
The hole point of a 2cv is the suspension, which were obvious replaced here. Without it it's just a dangerous tin can. But it could use more power as in this experiment 😅.
I love it! 2CV are just awesome.
How fabulous is that? And it's wearing numberplates too, which is a scary thought!
Its used as daily sometimes, I know cos im his neighbour
Thats my idea of a super car. Love it.
Oh God! I want one!🤩
that looks a lot more then 9 HP.
only the first 2cv between 1948 and 1954 had the 9HP engine, the last, between 1970 and 1990 with the 602cc had 29hp .But the all first 2cv from 1939 (never sale because the war) had only 8hp (water cooled engine)

Supercharged BMW GS 1200... (In whatever chassis and frame you decided to put it in) identity.
Not surprising: The BMW 1200GS was taken from the Citroen GS car, which engine was in fact originally a double-flat twin 2CV engine (therefore a 4-flat).
What? The BMW 1200GS engine is a 2 cylinder engine (as the original 2CV engine of course), and I highly doubt that it was taken from the Citroen GS. Even the Citroen GS engine was not just a doubled 2CV engine but a new construction. The 2CV engine was e.g. with Bottom-mounted camshaft and valves actuated by tappets, pushrods and rocker arms, while the GS engine has overhead camshafts driven via toothed belts, which operated the valves via rocker arms. The only thing in common all these machines have: Aircooled Boxer. Thats about it.
@@Slazlo-Brovnik yep and the all first 2cv's (see TPV 1939 named "2cv" for the "salon de l'auto 1939" who was canceled) was tested with a BMW flat twin and flat head motorcycle engine before the built from the all first Citroën flat twin who was... water cooled and OHV. The first air cooled 2cv was sale in 1948, so far before the first GS who was launched in 1970...
Which does not mean it is a 'copy' of BMW. The construction is different. @@leneanderthalien
I guess the roll cage shifted the centre of gravity up upwards a bit ❤

Is that the voice of Mr. Hubnut I hear at the beginning?
You retained the original gearbox?! Why not use the sequential GS 'box? Who needs reverse?
use another gearbox is extremly difficult, not forgott that this is a front wheel drive with engine forward...impossible to use a Citroën GS gearbox (far not enough space) and the motorcycle gearbox cannot be use (no differencial) and is not strong enough

yep, the standard gearbox is very strong, but this is a bit "limit"...

After a year of going up the mountains of Spain to baby bullfights and lots of tourists, i wish we had a 2cv like this...
does this thing still pass the basket of eggs not broken while driving on cobblestone road test
awesome video
He ought to ditch that stock transmission, and just use the bike trans with a sequential style shifter setup. He'd lose reverse but it would be quicker and easier to race. Or if the car trans has a 1:1 ratio gear, he could leave it in that gear and shift the bike trans.
cannot: you forgott the motorcycle gearbox is made to drive 1 wheel
you apparently are not familiar with either the BMW and/or the Citroen. The BMW trans has a longitudinal output shaft that drives the bike rear wheel with a ring and pinion. The Citroen has half shafts exiting the side of the gearbox (transaxle) out to the wheel hubs. Totally incompatible with one another.
@@raycoleman3183Exactly this!
Im sure a gearbox from an Alfasu would fit with some mods.
Why not use the bike's gear box....????
Thats a fast 2cv
Gearbox is like it will go 500mph
I don't know, it's a kinda cool car !
154hp really??

Pike Peaks whit it! Deserves it!
i just assumed with that much hp it would have been much faster
It's a track car, not a hillclimber, so it's not getting chance to open wide. Different story on the circuit......and, as another comment on here points out, it's running a standard gearbox, the change-speed of which can be measured in tectonic movements. That thing can't be easy to convince from a straight line, and I trained at this shit.
And he didn't took it to the rev limiter!!guess he could be even faster, using all those 150hp
Bro, he's going up hill - you never heard of torque?

GS1200? No such engine !
I think you mean a BMW R1200 boxer engine, found in many bikes including the R1200gs
Maybe should have used the R1200GS gearbox.
@@cristianr3712 Hi,
No, definitely not ! Having had a R1200gs i can tell you the gearbox & clutch are terrible ! Very weak internals & a dry clutch that must never be slipped.
@@WhiskeyGulf71 Thanks for clarifying.
the BMW R1200GS is a BMW motorcycle designation, and impossible to use the motorcycle gearbox because dids not have a differential and "in bord" brakes
This is not a 2Cv. ¿Suspension, engine?
this is 100% a real 2cv but with modified suspension (lovered and hardened), gearbox is original (a bit modified)
i like the idle sound sort of had a 2cv tone to it - then the guy accelerated... - my french teacher used to have a 2cv with an old bugatti motor it would also fly
La 1ere voiture de Vivi...et pile la bonne couleur

It doesn't seem like 150 in that.. might be the gearing that is a bit off, but also if it's the original gearbox
Not bad idea, but the sound, I don't like it, nica car !
Works well. Does any body know what the speed was into bottom S. Put a better gear box on it, get the waight down and some engine work and you would still have an uncompetitive libra car. Good fun tho
needs some closer gears
Watching the flat cornering. It just seems.....wrong.
So cool 😎
It seems kinda less powerful than a worn out original))
Its an 1100. Not 1200.
I want, I want!
Super 😎👍
Welding gloves?
Better use small V8 engine next time:)
Same in one movie..
Changing gears looks funny:)
a V8 + geabox weight more than a complete 2cv so no way...in this 2cv is the geabox original with orginal lever...incredible that this hold so much more power as the original engine (602cc, 29hp)
I like it
Looks like a 2CV but really its just a shell.
no it's not a special chassis with a 2cv body ont it but a real 2cv,with original chassis and suspensions (but adapted and reinforced): this is pretty current on 2cv "no limit category" in 24h Francorchamps race...original 602cc engine can be upgraded to 70hp, improved original engine (more cubic + turbo) to 90hp (i known a BURTON street approved in Belgium with this engine ,190km/h top speed!) for more power this need a BMW motorcycle flat twin, original gearbox is very strong (but for 154hp its the limit!) and if you have ennough money, it's possible to modify it to 5 gears (kit made from a Swiss designer)
Its goes like a snail full of meth, lol.
Suspension...aren t ..CITROËN 2 CV... SO ......it is not a CITROËN 2 CV..
the suspension is original, but a bit modified like you can see on a Burton
i see that reliant rialto
La 2CV che non molleggia non è una 2 CV !
That announcer is far too excited
but they always are. It's part of the job.
That 400 cv
A little slow to face a race. There are fiat 500 from the 60s with hayabusan engine that go faster than this citroen
Better to mount a 1.2 / 1.4 turbo boosted car engine
the BMW engine choice is practical because of the limited space in front of the gear box. Anything more than a flat two would protrude past the grille. Packaging and high hp to weight ratio are met with this combo. The best alternative would be to mount a front wheel drive engine/transaxle in the rear for a mid engine location driving the rear wheels. But that is a very long way from this BMW conversion. A fellow in England has, or has, a kit for this conversion including a engine/trans adapter plate and miscellaneous other bits as well as instructions. The 5 speed CX (?) transmission can be used with the 2CV bell housing to gain the extra gear.
@@raycoleman3183 it would have been good if they had mounted at least one turbo, the car seems slow in acceleration
Commentator going that corner is so flat trying to spice it up a bit, id be oh fuckoff just bring me a beer while we wait for the next car.
2 chevaux verte. A moi la chance !
It seems to be very slow...
Are we watching different videos? I'm currently watching a 2cv attack a hill climb faster than a production hot hatch
I watched some videos about Abarth 1000 TC and they seem to be faster than this 2cv.
This one goes pretty near 120mph flat out..
Nowhere near what you imagine when you read 154hp/660kg's though. Unless there's some quirk of the class system that means leaving the original 'box in makes it unbeatable I'd be a bit disappointed if it were mine!
it has the aerodynamic shape of a brick, has nothing to do with weight. it takess 100hp to get it to 100mph. Check Pete Sparrow and his videoes. I wrote a bit with Alex that owns the green car, the aerodynamic lift on the 2cv, makes it very hard to handle at speeds over 115mph. It wasn't designed for speed you know :-D
