One of the greatest film-noirs in cinematic history with crackerjack performances by the gorgeous Linda Darnell and that perennial fave, Dana Andrews [the man for all seasons and reasons]. Miss Darnell's performances will knock you off your feat. Wow! what a beaut and what an actor!!!
Darnell stole the picture from Alice Faye which is why Faye never worked again in pictures again after this film. Fay did a few cameos decades later but for all intensive purposes, Fallen Angel ended Fay's movie career.
Linda Darnell was exceptionally beautiful, plus fun smarty way. Love it. She was phenominal with Tyrone Power in "Blood In Sand". He was too. All time great film.
Before the end of the movie I figured it was Judd who killed Stella . I searched on Google and I was correct . Judd was obviously a bad cop after he tortured a man during an interrogation. How many other viewers figured it out . Most likely not just myself .
Loved this movie from beginning to end. Linda Darnell stole the film from everyone. Faye on the other hand doesn't even appear until the second half of the movie which is one reason Fay stormed off the studio lot never to return after seeing the rushes of this movie in the studio projection room. It became obvious to Faye that the studio was promoting Darnell over her and that she was being pushed aside for a younger star. Faye then was blacklisted from working in pictures since she walked out of her contract at Fox. It wasn't until 17 years later did she appear in some little ditty of a picture.
Yes Jack, it's very true what you have narrated above. Ms. Darnell just walked away with every plaudit in the book. Alice Faye's days with Fox were numbered when they grabbed Betty Grable from the stage after her stupendous success in 'Du Barry was a lady' with the sole purpose of replacing Faye. Yes, Fox made Grable a top selling star for 12 long years, after which she was replaced by Marilyn Monroe. Fame is the name of the game is how it goes. A star must always realize she's not so good that she can't be replaced.
