It's the slap bass which allways makes songs better. But there aren't too many bands with slap bass and the music industry don't accept instrumental talent nowadays as inspiration is variable and you don't want risk with your business. I wanted to say that the bass work at 2:40 was OFFENSIVELY good, but then I remembered that the entire fucking song is on that level and it's just ANOTHER juicy ass part of the bop.
Your mix sounds really good. I was positively surprised. One doesn't usually expect this level from "funny" songs. You're also good song writers. It's not riff salad. There'a line through it and even if it's instrumental, you've got the idea how to make it interesting. You're taking your cues from prog and a bit of fusion and jazz, that's good!
They have somehow figured out how to make the bass take on the roll of the melody instrument while still being a bass. And let me stress NOT in theory but ACTUALLY pulled it off. Bravo
