If you ever get a chance to see Rufus live, go. He puts on a terrific concert. He is talented in every way, and when he performs alone -- just him and the piano or guitar without any machines or back-up -- he shines like the true star he is.
so i finally work through my infatuation with "the art teacher," move ahead two tracks on "want two" and find this phenomenally gorgeous, haunting song. i'll say it again and stand by it: he's the most insanely talented, original songwriter of our time.
he's the rodgers and hart of our generation, writing songs that will be recorded 50 years from now; this and "the art teacher" are modern standards. i'm always stunned by his phenomenal talent. a great songwriter; a great performer.
He's in a class by himself. I am constantly amazed and in awe of his talent. Love his melodies, his vocals, his piano playing, and the real human emotions he puts into each of his songs. What an amazing performer and songwriter he is!! He has no peers.
Profondeur des profondeurs ! Mes larmes remontent depuis mes orteils en passant par tous mes vaisseaux sanguins. Une purge monumentale. Rufus guérisseur. Merci !
powerful and accurate capture of a very drunken man .... that's the genial part, he sings like he is raving drunk with such a subtility, and such a visual strength in the images. Yes Frank, powerful and accurate.
Dear God , he sounds so much like his mother. they both sing so beautifully. This is such a beautiful song and Rufus really know how to make it work. It touches your heart in such a special way to hear him sing.Voice of an angel.I have listened to The album Dancer with Bruised Knees so many times. This takes me to the same place as did his beautiful Mother and Aunty.
@gomezz Rufus is a classically trained musician. He is an avid fan of opera and studied piano at Concordia and McGill Universities in Montreal. Many times art inspires art so it isn't a surprise that you recognized some similar progressions. He even copies the lyrics in one song directly from the opera, Macbeth by Verdi. I personally think he is an amazing talent and I respect him greatly. I have many friends in the music community and I know 1st hand how difficult it can be to get in.
i don't know why but when i'm listening to rufus i always get the feeling that i've already heard the harmonies he uses somewhere else.. maybe on classical music.. chopin? schubert? i don't know... i came here to see if anyone felt the same but i guess not. anyway, terrific song
@gomezz Well I imagine that those pieces influence him. He is known for listening to those type of things. I know at the end of "between my legs" you can clearly hear a bit of phantom of the opera.

This is so unbelievably beautiful. You can hear his heart and soul in every note. I think stunning is the right word for this performance as well.

This consoles me like nothing else ever could.

Rufus is beyond perfection. his music never gets old, he's a genius and i can't even describe how much he and his music mean to me.

I keep discovering songs in his albums. No matter how often I listen right through I get surprised. Billie Holiday would have loved this song.
Edith Piaf would have liked it even more !
I listen to Rufus every day. His songs never get old.
I'm glad Rufus exists.
This song is seriously underrated.

what a powerful and accurate capture of the ripped and torn emotion born of a painfull separation from love.

he's such an excellent singer!!!
the overwhelming flow of his voice, almost monomanic, is really something.

Did anyone find this after listening to Dave Douglas's version? This is much different but it is definitely pretty cool. I like the lyrics.

Reminds me a lot The Tourist (RadioHead)
Uwielbiam tego gościa.
Yes, that's right. My fav. is part of Bolero by Ravel I think? It's on 'Oh What a World' from Want One - fantastic.
Really? I couldn't care less who his fan-base is, he is a fantastic writer and performer.

the way of singing used in ancient times
Is this song on a film? I'm sure I'veheard it somewhere before :-s

Why do you bother to listen?
ce sait pas faire évoluer sa musique il reste sur ses accords graves
Boring. . .
