yes! and a person’s favorite color _is_ a frivolous, ultimately unimportant little thing and he asks it _because_ of that. it’s completely innocent and detached from all the horror and struggle of their lives, and it’s nice to indulge in innocence. he also asks it to diffuse the situation and lighten it up a bit with some humor lol.
The woman in the back with the "muzzle" on is a servant called an "Avox." They cut the tongues out of traitors and make them, like, clean up. In the books, one Peacekeeper who tried to help Gale at the whipping post is turned into an Avox and made to serve them dinner at the Tribute Center.
I don't really like Gale but in the books the reason for getting whipped is done so much better. Taking the turkey to head peacekeepers house who usually buys them but the new guy is there and he was caught red handed Hunting. In the movie it makes Gale look kinda dumb to tackle that guy which in the book would have gotten him instantly killed. I know you didn't bring Gale up just thought of it when I read your comment and needed to rant. ☺
Katniss and Gale were hunting when the Avox girl and a male companion were tracked down in the woods by 12. The boy was pierced through the chest with a spear shot from the hovercraft. The girl was captured, had her tongue removed and is now essentially a slave to the capitol.
When Mags realized that Peeta now needed to be carried and heard Katniss say she couldn't carry him, Mags chose to sacrifice herself by walking into the fog so Finnick could carry Peeta. She died almost instantly from being enveloped in the poison. She is an incredible hero for her self sacrifice so Peeta could live.
@lmn6023 @lmn6023 if I'm remembering the book right in the book Katniss actually does carry mags a little ways but after a while because of the Fog that had touched her legs and arms (I think if I'm remembering it right) and the exhaustion from carrying mags while running it made it difficult for Katniss to continue carrying mags. When she says this, Finnick tells them he can not carry both Peeta and Mags, to which mags kisses him on the lips and walks straight into the fog, dies instantly. Don't know if this helps make you feel better or worst knowing she actually does try, but she does. Sida note, for a brief moment before all that she actually considers leaving Peeta, mags, and Finnick to save herself it's only for a brief moment that she thinks this but she does think this.
Part of the reason that D12 was allowed to raise the three fingers sign without being shot on sight is because that symbol originates in D12. Book Katniss quote: "It is an old and rarely used gesture of our district, occasionally seen at funerals. It means thanks, it means admiration, it means goodbye to someone you love."
@@et5216very much soo! theres lil easter eggs to make point of it, in the movies. so it just didnt make sense to NOT add it 😭😭😭 like it would make more sense why suddenly peeta needed so much help in these games vs the first one all by himself 🗿 forever salty bout it 😂
In the books, once a victor was crowned, rich capital citizens would be able to "rent" them. If the victor refused, their loved ones paid the price with their lives. That's one of the many reasons Joanna no longer cares. After her games, her whole family was murdered.
I think y’all were talking when Effie gave Haymitch and Peeta their gold tokens “to show them we are a team.” Both are important: Finnick is wearing Haymitch’s bangle, and Peeta gives his medallion to Katniss. Also, Mags was Finnick’s mentor and like a mother/grandmother to him. She volunteered to spare Annie, the woman Finnick loves.
@elyssakerlin7027 I've watched and read the series multiple times, and not once have I ever noticed this! This is my favorite series to watch people react to, and I read a lot of comments and you're the first person to point that out, great eye for detail!
Peeta was the real MVP of this series for me. His biggest strength was his compassion and his desire to not only retain it, but wear it on his sleeve. That drew people to him as much as his ability to say the right thing at the right time. Snow knew how much of a potential threat he was - while Katniss was a symbol of rebellion, Peeta was the heart of it. The two of them together were a force he feared could topple his regime, so he needed to do everything in his power to crush both of them, not just Katniss. If you guys end up getting to the prequel, the main character of that story really tells you all you need to know about why he was so afraid of both of them
The dress Cinna made is designed to look like a Mockingjay, which is a symbol of the revolution. Katniss' signature pin is a Mockingjay, the symbol is also spraypainted in the tunnel they pass through while on the train. Cinna was aware of the statement this dress would make and it's likely he knew it would not bode well for him to reveal it, but he chose to anyway.
The color thing is important because it means someone pays attention to details about you…for example if I was thinking of a gift and I knew someone’s favorite color I may want to personalize it by getting it in that color 🤷🏽♀️…it’s not that deep but it does show attention to details
Bruh when Snow announced that they all were getting pulled back in, my grams threw her pillow at the ground and walked off cursing.😂 It took 2 hours to convince her to keep watching.
Not sure if it was mentioned but the old man who was shot on the tour at the beginning was Rues grandfather, her father was executed at the end of the first book when the district rioters, that is why Rues mother was alone on the podium.
She was never WITH Gale. Katniss was not interested in a relationship at all with anyone. Gale assumed their friendship would turn into a relationsship.
Nah. They weren't officially an item, but she was pretty into Gale. Hence her guilt around Peeta in the book. It's understood they have feelings for each other, and an official relationship was the next step.
@@cmay7429 I didn't have anything better to do so i skipped through the audiobook and in ch 1 less than 15 mins in, it says "there's never been anything romantic between Gale and me" even though it was already obvious he liked her, and then repeats that there's nothing romantic when he comes to say bye after the reaping. He was into her but was 100% in the friendzone. whenever she mentions him after that its about him being her only friend or them hunting. It isn't until she's in the cave and peeta's asleep fighting a fever that she even wonders if he'd be her boyfriend IF she was open to it. I think any guilt she has comes from lying about liking peeta or realizing Gale likes her, not her liking him. even in book 2 when she starts kissing him its always because she knows he wants to and wants to make him feel better, not because she likes him. Anyway, thanks for the excuse to listen to the audiobook again!
I think Gayle thought that katniss would just always be there for him. Whenever he was gonna be ready to make a move. Maybe he wanted to wait until they were both over 18 and knew they weren't going to die in the games. Who knows. But ya snooze, ya lose, bro....
yes, she was younger than him. I think she thought she was supposed to like him. But really, she didn't. She "felt" more for Peta too quickly for her to really like Gale. She loved him. And he was a "hot" guy. She talks about how all of the girls in town liked him. How he dated around. But she described feeling sparks with Peta and any woman knows what she means by that. We need to stop. We know she was in to Peta. Gale was like a cousin non cousin guy. She loved him yes, and I mean she could have been happy with him, etc all of that. But we all know what it is like when that certain person stares you in the eyes and got you running in to walls screaming Peta. HAHAh
Watched hunger games movies a lot of times and I never thought about that lol I always figured he was just a Crazy but like able friend of haymitchs Lol 👵🏻👍🏻
@@LisaMerworth-wc7eeit isn’t because of his amputated hand, he does this because the victors all have an inside joke of finding Katniss pure and find it funny. This context isn’t really apparent in the movie since they cut these scenes out so it seems random. Book wise when Katniss finds Peeta injured in the first games, she gets so flustered and embarrassed about peeta having to take off his clothes and nakedness to clean the wounds, whereas peeta is unbothered and the victors think that’s funny. It’s why Chaff kisses her like that, why finnick flirts with the sugar cube and why Johanna strips in the elevator. They’re all teasing her for being ‘pure’ and ‘innocent’ so they’re doing these things to get a reaction out of her. Peeta also finds it funny that they’re teasing her for being pure, and he is struggling to hold in his laugh after Johanna stripping in the elevator, Katniss is so annoyed at him for it she is mad at him until the first training session 😭
@@Frogface91 I’m glad I can explain it, it does seem random and very out of place. I think it also makes Katniss angry, both at those victors and Peeta because it confirms how different she is from them. The fact that the victors are making fun of her for being uncomfortable with nakedness and the fact Peeta finds it’s funny, it’s like he’s laughing at her. She evens defensive saying ‘I’m not pure, I’ve been trying to rip your clothes off every time there’s a camera’ and Peeta’s like ‘yeah… okay, sure but for the Capitol you are pure and there’s nothing wrong with it.’ I think it shows how she is still a teenage girl with how insecure this makes her feel, because she won’t talk to Peeta after that and during training she is bothered by the fact that she doesn’t talk to anyone and only feels comfortable talking to Beetee and Wiress who are the outsiders, whereas Peeta is surrounded by a huge group of 10 victors socialising and coming together to sit in a big group at lunch. She even questions how Peeta even noticed her to have a crush on her in the first place because he was always with a big group of friends whereas she has always felt different and would sit away from everyone and only had one friend who sat with her while they barley spoke. It kind of feels like bullying the awkward autistic coded people, since when Peeta meets up with her again and Katniss says she likes Beetee and Wiress and Peeta is like ‘oh really? Johanna calls them nuts and volts’ it makes her feel extra insecure, because the fact that they aren’t taken as seriously because they’re ’outsiders’ and are less social, it confirms that feeling that the ‘cool kids’ are just mocking her. And peeta doesn’t understand why she’s so mad, because he sees it as lighthearted and he finds it easy to socialise with others and never had issues with making friends
Fun fact, in the beginning with the water, a lot of the tributes couldn't swim. These people need to stay in their districts right? Many districts didn't have bodies of water where people could swim. Katniss learned to swim when her father sneaked them out to a river. That's why she's one of the first at the cornucopia. Finnick and Mags can swim since they're from the fishing district. But Peeta actually couldn't swim, since he never had the chance to learn. It's why he stayed by his beginning stand, and why Finnick started swimming to help him when he was fighting off the other tribute.
Also peeta lost his leg in the first one, which would make it extremely hard for him to swim without assistance if he had not done therapy to do so which I do not believe he did. I've read the books and I don't think I've read anywhere in the books that after he lost his leg Peeta sought therapy to help him learn to swim again. I'm sure he had some therapy so that he could learn to walk on his leg again but I'm not sure they went as far as swimming. Remember they only have a year between each game. Which would give him only a year to be able to properly walk sit do any kind of activity including swimming. I'm not saying that can't be done but it is unlikely in this dystopia future. And to top off that they had to go on the victory tour as well and the Victory Tour takes place 6 months after the games end which gives him 6 months to heal and do therapy before he has to start a victory tour so he probably didn't have enough time to do therapy to learn to swim which is why he stayed on his podium in Finnick had to retrieve him.
The “3s” gesture wasn’t a sign of a rebellion in the first one. It was the traditional salute to the dead used by District 12 meaning things like respect, love, and farewell and was simply a way to honor her for volunteering for her sister. After her victory in the hunger games it along with anything else connected to her (like the braided hairstyle) started to be seen as a sign of rebellion.
Oh, and Mags is technically selectively mute, she had a stroke that impacted her speech (she slurs heavily when she speaks in the books, which is rare), so instead she chooses to communicate non-verbally. I love this woman 🥺
I think maybe Peeta wanted to ask something as simple as ‘what’s your favorite color’ because their “relationship” has been so complicated. They were forced to spend intimate time together doing intimate things in the games. They skipped a step in the “relationship” So Peeta wants to go back to the absolute basics of getting to know a person. Plus I feel one can garner a lot by asking someone their favorite color especially if the one asking is an artist like Peeta.
In the first book but not in the movie, Peeta's leg that Cato cut with a sword had to be amputated. He's competing with a prosthetic leg in this arena.
Fun fact: as President Snow said, this is the third quarter quell. The first one (the 25th) each district had to vote who would go in the games, and the second one (the 50th and the game Haymitch played in) there was 4 tributes from each district, so 48 people instead of 24. One of the femake tribute for the 50th was Katniss's moms best friend. Edit: also similar to the clock like arena in this quarter quell, the 50th one had a trick aswell, every single thing was poison, the water, the plants, etc
37:00 Fun detail - no one knew that Seneca died eating berries. Katniss here is directly referencing what Plutarch told her - that Seneca quit breathing. 44:00 Mags won by swimming through tsunami-biome with mutant-sharks. She gonna be one of the few people to be safe in water tbh even at her age. 45:40 Funny enough I think if those were normal games - Finnick would have won them. He is the strongest in this arena and he is likable. Not to mention out of all the tributes - he is the only one that has someone he needs to go back to. I feel like after Mags sacrificed herself, Katniss and Peeta would slowly warm up to him, especially after Katniss would learn about Annie. Both of them would sacrifice themselves for him. 51:25 This is probably one of the deadliest arena ever. They knew Winners probably wouldn't like to fight especially at the end - so they definitely pumped up the difficulty. 58:10 Blight's death was essential to our heroes survival btw. - the canon signaling his death was the thing that woke Katniss up for the fog.
They really thought they were going to get Katniss killed at the start because they didn't think she knew how to swim. There isn't any body of water inside district 12 but they didn't know Katniss would sneak out of the fence because security was so relaxed there. Her dad would take her to a pond outside the fence of district 12 when she was little and she learned how to swim
8:41 for some cases, and with Peeta and Katniss, their favorite colors relate to their personalities. Like Katniss’s is green, which shows how much she really enjoys hunting and being outside around trees and nature; and Peeta’s favorite color being orange like the sunset shows that he’s a sensitive person, which he shows a lot to Katniss and throughout the movies. So it matters depending on if it’s actually personal.
Oh you can totally tell Effie is not down. Her mask while pulling names is slipping. On another note, Stanley Tucci (the announcer with the hair) is the GOAT. Dude is one of the best side character and supporting actors I have ever seen. In roles like this and The Lovely Bones he makes you love to hate him lol
I’ve seen and loved him in almost all his roles…. BUT… He creeped me the heck out in lovely bones. I was grossed out just by looking at a google photo of him for a months. 😂 I heard his performance made the staff really uncomfortable, which truly shows was a talent he has.
Katniss did have a problem with that elevator scene in the book she ghosted Peeta for a couple of days for the way he reacted to her stripping. Also Peeta and Katniss are being protected equally in the games they wanted both but either one would do for the revaluation. Thats why Katniss is so mad. Katniss is a better fighter but Peeta was the better talker and they need a mouth piece for the war not a soldier.
I don’t think that’s why she ghosted peeta, it was more because afterwards he teased her for being pure and was laughing at Katniss reaction to what Johanna did to make her uncomfortable
@@clover2739 No she uses that as an excuse to be mad at him for those few days. She says " She spends the whole ride talking to Peeta about his paintings while the light of his still-glowing costume reflects off her bare breasts. When she leaves, I Ingore him, but I just know he's grinning. I toss aside his hand as the door close behind Chaff and Seeder, leaving us alone, and he breaks out Laughing." Katniss got a little jealous surprising herself somewhat thinking he was grinning from seeing her naked and talking about his paintings. He doesn't start laughing or tease her until after she gets upset. Then she gets more upset when he teases her.
It's not that it matters if my partner knew my favorite color. But the knowledge could come in handy if you're thinking of buying gifts or whatever. 😂 Peeta literally said "let's start getting to know each other" so him asking her favorite color was just to point out that they don't know anything about each other. It's not that deep haha
Fun fact: Effie's butterfly dress is inspired by a *poisonous* species of butterfly. It symbolizes that even though she seems sweet sometimes, she still represents danger, since she's still part of the Capitol.
Snow killed Joanna's family, so that's why she mouths off; as she said, there's no one left that she loves. They can't take anything else from her as she has nothing left.
What happened with Cinna wasnt necessarily because of the dress, it was the alteration of the dress and what the Mockingjay represents. Open rebellion and defiance to the Capitol. He knew what he was doing with that modification. He probably knew it was gonna get him in trouble.
49:43 yes! tree's are made up of 50% water. the water gets in there through the roots during the osmosis process. birch trees have the sweetest water taste wise, if u ever get curious... lol
I love yall but yall gotta pause when yall go on some of these tangents 😂 they funny but yall be missing stuff and good character moments especially Effie’s tearful goodbye
I recommend I don’t know if you want to pause the movie I don’t really care is not that big of a deal to me. But I would say I would recommend pausing during hunger games they always small details you should listen to
It wouldn't be a problem per se, but if my Husband didn't know my favorite color I'd wonder what other 'unimportant' information they forgot because they thought it wasn't a key piece of information to remember. the color doesn't matter, the intention does - I want to know my partner wants to know the dumb little things. And as many have said, it may be a gate way to start asking other questions, whats your favorite color suddenly starts a conversation about a night where the sky was an absurde shade of green or orange, and you start talking about other events from that time. or maybe your favorite color is this weird creamy pink the exact shade your grandma used to line your first quilt etc etc.
As for the favorite color question When I met this guy I liked, he asked my favorite color and told me his. Red and green. He showed up to our first date with red and green flowers, when he proposed our rings had red and green stones, our wedding colors were red and green, and every Christmas the colors remind us of so many happy memories together. I will be forever grateful that he took such a simple question and turned it into something beautiful. It's not necessarily about the color it's about the effort someone puts into getting to know you.
I don’t think anyone answered this, but the people with the outfits and masks in the background are called Avox (or something like that, it’s been years and kids later since I read the books…someone jumped my ass for spelling Ginny wrong in HP) they’ve had their tongues cut out by the capital for speaking out against the games, snow etc. pay attention to those people, one in particular comes back around in the story and knowing their backstory is a little important
14:33 one of my great grandma's showed me some pictures of her Irish indentured servant granddads back. Men have no idea what they can do to each other
The hand symbol they use is what we used in the girl guides in Ireland. The reason the thumb goes over the baby finger is because it represents the strong protecting the weak.
Huh. Katniss's district is in Appalachia, which was heavily settled by Irish immigrants who worked the coal mines. I wonder if the symbol in the book actually has Irish roots, or it's just a coincidence. How old is your use of the symbol?
@@cmay7429 I have no idea but that’s really interesting. It’s used across the UK as well and the Appalachian mountains are the same mountain range in Scotland as well. (As in they used to be connected). I wonder if the connection was on purpose as a little nod. That’s really interesting.
@@laurajaynenolan2149 So, with my historical deep dive (Wikipedia) it looks like the Ulster-Scots were the primary group settling this area, and most of the immigration was 17 & 1800's, so it would have been mostly over by the time y'all made it an official symbol. But who's to say it wasn't floating around before then. If we ever get to talk to the author... 😁
Peeta is also an artist, so it would make sense for color to be important to him too ❤ For me, a persons favorite color is a small detail about them, but i do think it tells you a lot about a person! Why is that their favorite color? What do they like so much about it? If they could give it a personality, how would they describe it? Maybe it reminds them of a memory, or it feels calm to them, or loud and passionate. You can learn a lot about people from it if you ask certain questions.... Plus its fun to give gifts in their favorite color lol.
The funny thing about the elevator scene was that they didn't hold back. Jena Malone really did strip down out of *everything* in that elevator. 😂 They filmed it in a hotel and the film assistant in charge of the elevator sent it to the wrong floor, where an unsuspecting hotel guest was waiting. “I’m about to leave the elevator and the door’s open and there is some guy that works at the hotel carrying like a coffee cup holder,” Jena said. “And his mouth is just like agape and I’m staring at him trying to be in character and I just fall out of frame laughing. I couldn’t take it, literally.” Also Jennifer Lawrence wasn't there that day to film the elevator scene because she was sick. You'd never be able to tell they filmed it on different days. 😅
Finnick is in love with a young woman named Annie. Mags was his mentor and volunteered when Annie was chosen for the games. Finnick was decidedly NOT in love with Mags!! He loved her as a mother figure.
At a minimum, I think if your *other* is *significant* enough to be giving gifts, you should know their favorite color. There are other ways it can be relevant over an extended time together, but in general it’s of many small but useful bits of information that can add meaning to smaller gestures and make the other person feel valued. Like how you like your steak cooked or how you drink coffee/tea.
The Mocking Jay is the symbol for the rebellion. Her dress turned into a Mocking Jay, the whistle, and throwing up the three are all showing rebellion. Which is why Snow had Cena killed.
The previous Quarter Quell's were just as messed up as this one. The first Quell, the districts has to hold elections to vote who'd they'd send into the area, and for the second Quell they had to pay double the amount of tributes. Those were the Games Haymitch won. A friend of Katniss's mother went that year, too, and survived to the last few.
The fog position burns and boils .It also attacked their nervous system hence why they were falling down and it was hard to get up. Plus Peeta has a fake leg because of the first game. Y'all going to love Finnic. Everyone who talk mad junk about him ends up apologizing and fallen in love with his character. Finnic was talking to his love, Annie , in the interview. That is who the old women, their mentor, volunteered for. She did it to save Annie and to look after Finnic and sacrifice herself if she needed to.
I feel like it’s more about just paying attention to the little details about a person. Like knowing their favorite color or how they like their food in general just means you’re paying attention to that person and that’s what makes them happy.
When it showed the hovercraft picking up the corpses I got reminded of the book where the hovercraft took multiple trips for one corpse, suggesting that there was some mutt that could mutilate you, so they knew to stay away from that section.
Yall! I watch lots of reactions, especially for this movie, and this reaction is easily one of my favorites. I died at the “cookie” and “beyblade” jokes.
Knowing someone’s favorite color is one of the basics in getting to know someone. It’s one of those mundane questions that we should know about anyone that we have any sort of longer relationship with. Seeing that they don’t even know each other’s favorite color shows the lack of mundanity in their everyday life. And thats heartbreaking but so real for the story I feel like.
One of the first things I learned about my significant other was favourite colour, it makes buying gift very easy. In my opinion knowing their favourite anything is important.
Peeta IS a painter. Not in the movie, but the books say when he stopped working at the bakery he used his money and free time to paint. He painted Rue for the game makers during his interview as a rebellion.
First reactors I've seen that caught immediately that Peeta was the one who painted the portrait of rue (most people seem to think the Game Makers put it there to shake Katniss). If I remember correctly, in the book, Katniss doesn't actually see it. He and Katniss are talking before they're called in, and the topic turns to Rue, and Peeta muses something like: That really was the worst thing they did, wasn't it? And he paints it out of anger, as a screw you to the game makers. She can see a stain on the floor that they've tried and failed to clean, then cover up, and she can see that the Game Makers are upset. So she correctly guesses (and he later confirms) that he painted *something* that angered them. That's part of what inspires her to hang the dummy - it's her anger too, but she's really intentionally trying to do something outrageous enough to distract them from being as mad at Peeta. On Finnick's "interview" before the games: Katniss observes that his weird poem was intentionally vague because he has so many "lovers," and the idea is they'll all assume he's talking to them specifically. SPOILERS (since I'm commenting 6 months late, and can see you've already reacted to the sequels I figure it's safe), but this hits a bit different as we get to know Finnick better, and especially when we learn his "lovers" weren't his choice at all, but something forced on him by President Snow. Finnick is probably one of my favorite characters in this, but it's honestly hard to choose from among the victors who have prominent roles. They're all amazing in their own unique dysfunctional or tragic ways. Actually really impressive how much characterization and sympathy Suzanne Collins managed to cram into SO MANY of side characters, considering it was this big overwhelming crowd of dying children (and later adults). Rue is obviously a huge one in book/movie 1, but Thresh is also surprisingly memorable considering how little time he appears, and "Fox Face" doesn't even get a name, but for me she always touched me as complex background narrative that gets snuffed out abruptly, and essentially by accident. Of course we can't forget that Hamich is also a victor, and his character is so damn relatable, the fact that he starts off as so unlikable until you slowly realize his alcoholism and callousness are a result of years and years of watching kids he tried to help die, until he has to numb himself from it (and in the books, there's even more background reasons he's so broken down). And he never really loses his demons. Book 2 has so many strong, if brief moments for characters who don't even reappear in the narrative, and the victors who do play a major part in the story all contain a great amount of depth and sorrow.
Definitely recommend rewatching this movie just to catch all the details you realise are going on once you know about the ending reveal. Especially since you talked through Plutarch’s introduction scene at the party - so many sneaky comments!
this channel is very quickly becoming one of my favorites. just excellent all around. keep up the great work and I hope y'all are blessed with continuous success this year
29:44 lol Brandon is quick with it. Would have lost an important ally 37:01 start the next one like this. That would be epic. 38:25 lol Brandon is hilarious 53:41 didn’t know I’d be in church today. Sing brother Adison Great reaction as usual
The sugar cube flirting, the kiss, and the undressing in the elevator were just the other competitors messing with Katniss bc she seemed so innocent in the first games (like she didn’t want to see Peeta naked when cleaning his wound).
51:55 when y’all mention having to save Peeta every 5 seconds… good thing to keep in mind (aside from him obviously being recently electrocuted), was in the books he also lost his leg in the first game. So he can’t even really run in the first place..
The elderly man killed was Rues' grandfather. The symbol is a district 12 sign of support and solidarity. When they used that symbol it showed unity and defiance. The whole point of The hunger games is to keep the districts against each other so that they can't overthrow the capital.
That What's your favorite color question was a joke and Katniss took it as such. But more importantly, don't forget that , like Brandon, Peeta is also an artist.
Those tree taps can be used for certain trees and that’s how we get maple syrup. But in the Hunger Games, those trees aren’t real and they have tubing to send them water
I highly recommend reading the books. There is so much more detail and story. One that I liked is a better explanaition of the perimiter of district 12. The fence is supposed to be charged by electricity so nobody goes outside of the fence. Katniss and Gale realized it wasn't. It was shut off to cut costs. So they go outside to hunt. One day Katniss was outside of it hunting (I think it was when snow was at her house with two peacekeepers) and she came back to go home, she could hear the fence buzzing. They turned the electric shock back on. So the climbed a tree to jump over the fence and she sprained her ankle and hurt her back when she landed. She had to walk home and try not to limp like she was fine.
I have been together with my boyfriend for 6 years and one of the first things we talked about is our favorite colors :D:D sometimes your favorite color can say a lot about you...for example at the time I had just lost my husband and I was wearing black...like all the time...I had no other colors in the closet...it kinda showed how depressed I am , still in mourning and see world in dark colors
The way I can tell if someone cares about me is if they’re paying attention to the small things I tell them, so yeah favorite color isn’t the most important thing but it is nice to know the person you’re interested in is paying attention to you
In the books, after the stunts Katniss and Peeta both pulled in their assessment time with the Gamemakers, they both received scores of 12 (the highest score) so that more tributes would target them…like the Games are sickening
one thing from this book that I wish they would have kept in the movie. After the fiend the forcefield on the edge, they start throwing nuts at it to keep track of it, and Mags (the old lady) is in the back just picking them all up and eating them
I've been waiting on this reaction for a good minute lol. I need to hop on Patreon cause I'm too impatient. 😭😭 Also Addison is petty haha! Don’t do that to ole boy who got ate by the dogs! 😂😂😂😂
I think small things like knowing your favorite color, your partner should know, especially if you've told them about it more than once 😂 but it definitely is a boring question to ask on the first date
The 3s originated in District 12 as basically a sign of respect- usually for the dead. In the first movie, when the crowd gives Katniss the 3s, it’s because they’re showing her respect for saving her sister knowing that she would die in her place. It’s like taking your hat off if you’re wearing a hat in the presence of someone you want to respect or at a funeral. When Katniss gave Rue the 3s when she died, it was to respect her passing. And it was the first time other Districts had seen compassion from two Districts to another. This is why other Districts adopted the 3s as a sign of Rebellion - because it was the compassion and rebellion that represented Katniss. The 3s became a symbol of rebellion for all Districts, evolving from a respectful salute for the dead used only in 12.
As far as all the plants go, the game makers actually make them before the games. They explain it more thoroughly in the book but like that tree is a purely artificial plant

But, they also thought that Cinna kissing Katniss on the check last film was kind of scetchy, so they’re not the best judge of human behaviour lol
Peeta is also an artist so… color is very important to him too yall.
While Katniss went hunting to deal with games trauma he was in the house baking and doing art therapy.
Lol
good point
Its the little things 😂 if you dont know my favorite color, do you even love me?
yes! and a person’s favorite color _is_ a frivolous, ultimately unimportant little thing and he asks it _because_ of that. it’s completely innocent and detached from all the horror and struggle of their lives, and it’s nice to indulge in innocence.
he also asks it to diffuse the situation and lighten it up a bit with some humor lol.
I think in book one, Katniss recognizes an avox girl as someone from her district that got captured for trying to escape.
I read the books as a child and I totally blocked this out lmao. Time to reread I guess tyyy
@@autumntheraven That was a capitol citizen that Katniss saw in the woods
What bothered me about it, is that I've always thought Katniss would have probably been able to carry Mags and they didn't even try.
@@lmn6023I think it was because it happened so fast, mags pretty much gets off Finnick and books it to the fog
@@lmn6023She pretty much ran to the fog while becking them to run away

Birch sap is very good, full of minerals and soothing, but you get like 2 liters/ per 5 hours.
I learned that in Girl Guides heehee

Part of the reason that D12 was allowed to raise the three fingers sign without being shot on sight is because that symbol originates in D12. Book Katniss quote: "It is an old and rarely used gesture of our district, occasionally seen at funerals. It means thanks, it means admiration, it means goodbye to someone you love."

In the books, once a victor was crowned, rich capital citizens would be able to "rent" them. If the victor refused, their loved ones paid the price with their lives. That's one of the many reasons Joanna no longer cares. After her games, her whole family was murdered.
Glad you commented this.
She wears a gold ring and Johana has a gold ear cuff and eyeliner. Betee and Wiress wear gold subtly too. Lovely writing.
@elyssakerlin7027 I've watched and read the series multiple times, and not once have I ever noticed this! This is my favorite series to watch people react to, and I read a lot of comments and you're the first person to point that out, great eye for detail!
@@elyssakerlin7027thank you for this.
If you guys end up getting to the prequel, the main character of that story really tells you all you need to know about why he was so afraid of both of them
Thank you for this comment.
It's also important to Peeta because he's an artist, and color means a lot to him.
And it’ll be of some relevance in Mockingjay part2

HAHAh

He has the right hand tho….😂
@@clover2739 Thank you for this, I was always confused about what on earth the Joanna scene was about (even in the books).
She evens defensive saying ‘I’m not pure, I’ve been trying to rip your clothes off every time there’s a camera’ and Peeta’s like ‘yeah… okay, sure but for the Capitol you are pure and there’s nothing wrong with it.’
I think it shows how she is still a teenage girl with how insecure this makes her feel, because she won’t talk to Peeta after that and during training she is bothered by the fact that she doesn’t talk to anyone and only feels comfortable talking to Beetee and Wiress who are the outsiders, whereas Peeta is surrounded by a huge group of 10 victors socialising and coming together to sit in a big group at lunch.
It always destroys my heart when the "Peacekeepers" attack Cinna right in front of Katniss as she's being lifted into the arena.
You guys have done a surprisingly good job at remembering peoples names for this movie!! Proud of you!
Yeah. I kinda went from despising Effie to digging her by the end of 3. She has some good moments.
I loved him in the Devil Wears Prada, even his voice acting in the Wind Rises as an Italian guy lol
I toss aside his hand as the door close behind Chaff and Seeder, leaving us alone, and he breaks out Laughing."
Katniss got a little jealous surprising herself somewhat thinking he was grinning from seeing her naked and talking about his paintings. He doesn't start laughing or tease her until after she gets upset. Then she gets more upset when he teases her.

Peeta literally said "let's start getting to know each other" so him asking her favorite color was just to point out that they don't know anything about each other.
Importantly, in the books, the Hunger Games are required viewing for the districts. They can't just tune out if they don't want to watch.
What happened with Cinna wasnt necessarily because of the dress, it was the alteration of the dress and what the Mockingjay represents. Open rebellion and defiance to the Capitol. He knew what he was doing with that modification. He probably knew it was gonna get him in trouble.

The part with Rue always makes me cry
As for the favorite color question
When I met this guy I liked, he asked my favorite color and told me his.

@@cmay7429 I checked the guide book and apparently it was invented in 1908 (which is incidentally the year my Grandfather was born haha).
@@laurajaynenolan2149 So, with my historical deep dive (Wikipedia) it looks like the Ulster-Scots were the primary group settling this area, and most of the immigration was 17 & 1800's, so it would have been mostly over by the time y'all made it an official symbol.
I couldn’t take it, literally.”
Also Jennifer Lawrence wasn't there that day to film the elevator scene because she was sick. You'd never be able to tell they filmed it on different days. 😅
1:08:44 Well here's the thing. Katniss didn't want to be saved, she wanted peeta to live, not her.

As an artist myself, who works with paint and color on a daily. Colors mean more than just colors.😂😂😂
Facts!! Color means so much. -Brandon
Peeta was an artist as well and I think that’s why he asked because it was important to him. Some of y’all see and feel colors differently.
30:33 brandon guessing the ending made me SCREAMMM lmfao don't worry Past Brandon, they're gonna do just that
One of the first things I learned about my significant other was favourite colour, it makes buying gift very easy. In my opinion knowing their favourite anything is important.
You speak the truth. -Brandon
Peeta IS a painter. Not in the movie, but the books say when he stopped working at the bakery he used his money and free time to paint. He painted Rue for the game makers during his interview as a rebellion.
Color is important. Any present you give me is elevated if it is my favorite color. Some socks vs PURPLE socks, now we talkin'.
Especially since you talked through Plutarch’s introduction scene at the party - so many sneaky comments!
this channel is very quickly becoming one of my favorites. just excellent all around. keep up the great work and I hope y'all are blessed with continuous success this year
That was an excellent rugby tackle from Liam. You can see he use to play.
29:44 lol Brandon is quick with it. Would have lost an important ally
37:01 start the next one like this. That would be epic.
38:25 lol Brandon is hilarious
53:41 didn’t know I’d be in church today. Sing brother Adison
Great reaction as usual
So NO ONE is going to talk about how BEAUTIFUL his SINGING is at 53:43 ??!!!😮😢😅
I definitely thought it at the time.
Oh wow, it was so beautiful
Absolutely! 💯
Yes it was.
Also Addison is petty haha! Don’t do that to ole boy who got ate by the dogs! 😂😂😂😂
Shoot, me too! It's on patreon first??
@@fanout9921 yeah, they’ve already watched a lot and started a new series
I think small things like knowing your favorite color, your partner should know, especially if you've told them about it more than once 😂
but it definitely is a boring question to ask on the first date
