So sorry to hear about your mum. She can beat this though, tell her to always stay positive and don't dwell on having this horrible disease. I beat cancer that my doctor thought was impossible for me to beat, he was amazed that I was still alive after 2 rounds of chemo and radiation everyday on 14 points in my body for two months solid. I came out so weak and emaciated and I'll never forget my last appointment with my oncologist when I asked him, what is my best case scenario, how long will I live? He answered me honestly with five years Shari, it's not a question of will cancer take you down it's a question of when and how aggressive will it be? I laughed and I told him I'll see you in twenty years doc, this isn't taking me out. Well here I am 19 years since that appointment and I'm going strong. Never lose hope, never give in, and never surrender!!! You and your family will be added to my prayer list, much love to you from the states.

Sending you and your mom all the love. My mom did chemo and she was fine. Her biggest issue was no energy, but over time she built it back up. She had a different cancer, but she's been healthy for 10 years now.

I'm so sorry. I know too well how you likely feel.
My mother was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in spring of 2022 with a prognosis of just 6-9 months. The pandemic was still pretty bad here which really compounded things too. She was also debating whether or not to go through treatment. Thankfully she did and they were wrong on the stage 4/prognosis part, though nobody knew for sure until she finished her 12th chemo treatment and had the follow-up CT & MRI. It had looked like it had spread to her liver and bones, but those signs were just artifacts of her anemia as a child apparently. She responded really well to the radiation and chemo, is now officially in remission, and soon will get what's left of the tumor removed and the ileostomy reversed. Yes the treatments suck, the nausea, chemo brain fog, lack of energy, frustration... etc. But it does mean a chance of returning to a pretty regular life. She's 73 now and has gone back to looking 10yrs younger again, and once she has the surgeries and healed from them, back to full normal I think. She's one tough lady!
I took a leave of absence from my job and went on caregiver assistance. Her tumor was pressing on a lot of things including some really sensitive nerves, so she was on a LOT of pain meds for a quite a while. I know the NHS is at least somewhat similar to our healthcare system here in Canada... Can't she go on some sort of disability? I know it's never close to a regular wage, but it certainly helps. Look into gov assistance for you and/or your stepdad. Apply for every bit of help you can. You pay into it through taxes, you deserve to take the help when you need it.
Sorry for the really long comment. I just hope some bit of it helps even the smallest bit. If ever you need to talk, vent, or anything, please feel free to reach out. I know I'm just some stranger online, across the ocean no less, and I can't promise to make anything better, but the offer is there. 🫂💜

Awe bro thats shitty. My father passed away in 2010 from cancer. He found out in 2005 and only did one treatment and said he couldnt because it was worse than the cancer. so we just enjoyed the time we had left, which turned out to be 5 years. We said everything we needed to say and I was the last person in my family to see him alive and said that he can leave before I went home that day. I truly wish that it is treatable and hope she wants to do it. So I feel for ya bro and there is no shame showing your feelings. As Shrek said ... Better out than in.
If ya need to to go somewhere secluded and just yell your head off. All the best bud

I’m y years out from stage 3C lung cancer. chemo is much more advanced than even 15 years ago. Radiation is tiring but doable mate. With chemo, they give you a steroid to keep you able to deal with it, I never felt better than taking the chemo, I never got sick one time. I wish the same outcome for your mom.

@@DCReacts1984 my tumor was the size of a small lemon in my left lung, radiation is also much improved, the last week is the hardest when they intensify the radiation. Total time on the table getting radiation was 16 minutes that included placement on the table, so it will take her longer to get to her treatment than to have it taken. Hold on to positive energy, accept “it is what it is” mentality and if you need anyone to talk with when you get worried, there are lots of us that have been down the road, I’ve set you on notify me, if you post I’ll respond. And a note to you and anyone that smokes, in my country (I had no clue) you can get an annual Catscan, which they could have found my cancer much sooner had I only known. If you smoke mate, I don’t judge but I will plead with you to get an annual CTscan for yourself, it can save you from where I started with not finding out until I was coughing blood 16 hours a day. Oh and keep listening to your music and telling us how it makes you feel, you are a good dude heads up mate.
