Love this! I would say the DJI Mic 2 has a warmer sound to it, and the Rode Wireless Pro has a brighter sound. Both of them are fantastic mics. It all depends on what you're going for.
What do you mean, like what your preference for sound is? I'd like to do some bike cycling videos in the city. Would you recommend a dji mic2 or rode pro?
Thank you for testing them with the same lav. The DJI sounds better for me, the Rode is too brittle out of the box and is lacking in the base department. Which is not a problem, you can correct that in post, but that's an extra step. Too bad they don't have the EQ option.
The Rode sounds better - hands down - BUT that lav into the DJI sounds like it'd be usable with EQ in post. I will also say that although the DJI Tx doesn't have a locking connection it also weights next to nothing and is very unlikely to pull free in someones pocket by its own weight. Thanks for this.
Do you have a recommendation between the two if you can only get one based on this test? I like the idea of the locking lab but the touchscreen interface seems so much better on the DJI
If you can only get one, either one will be great for you. I’d say go Rode if you want two lavs included with the purchase. DJI can be edited in post production with some eq to still sound good just requires a little tweaking.
Hey. There is a huge difference between audio recorder directly from TXs, but... there is no difference with Rode Lav. Is it raw audio? Or did you make any EQ in postproduction? Can you tell me what Rode Lav is it? Version I or II?
I can't really tell honestly using my phone with good headphones. Oh but the lav mic sounds way better than the rode wireless pro though. But wow. The rode sounds really good as a wireless mic
So just to make sure I have this correct . All I need is the lav mic and the receiver . I don’t need a transmitter correct ? I have a dji pocket 3 but I’m trying to make sure I buy the correct stuff and don’t overspend for my set up . I just need one lav and one receiver for solo content . Please correct me if I’m wrong . Thanks
@@scottmckenna I was thinking about getting a 3.5mm to usb-c since the osmo pocket 3 doesn’t have a 3.5mm port. Would that work as well? I can hide the cords . This is more so for close to semi close to content .
Im using dji camera thats why dji is better in many way also the price too. The features dji have also have a big advantage in terms of wireless way of recording in 32bit float. Even how good the mic i have, im always tweaking my audio thats why eventhough the rode is way better in terms of quality, i can catch up that audio and the money ive spent is more valued vs the difference in terms of quality.
Great Comparison video. Thanks!! I did exact same tests without post editing. Did you apply processing ? The results from my side never resulted pure audio like yours :D So My concolusion that the DJI Mic 2 with the current firmware is not ready to be used as a standalone mic. It needs a Lav. Here is the long version : My consolusion after a very tough comparsion of the 2 mics regarding sound quality! DJI MIC 2 Firmware version: v04.02.01.13 Røde Mic 2 Firmware version: 1.2.8 1) Using Røde Lav II mic on both units (DJI Mic 2 , Røde Wireless Pro) : -- Noise Cancellation off , No Low cut filter : Simple! They both almost identical. You will never beleive it. You can't prefer one other the second. They might sound different if you compare them using 2 different LAVs which is not fair. -- Noise Cancellation On (DJI MIC2) : Røde Wins 100%. 2) NO LAV on both , RAW audio, No DeadCat wind shield. Both clipped equally on the top of my shirt: Røde : Better sound quality! Way better than the DJI Mic 2. Of course it depends on your voice and how much is the difference for your voice, but in General from audio samples from others as well, I found the Røde sound quality is more pure and native and fuller So, Finally: in case you will be using both with LAV, I think you are good to go with the one you prefer more. - if you care about the nice design and the very handy touch screen and compact case, DJI Mic 2 is the winner. - If you care about the noise reduction, then DJI is the clear winner. - If you are going to be hybrid between LAV and without, then the clear winner is the Røde. - If you are going to use it for street interviews, Røde is the winner again. If you have any questions, Let me know! :)
No post processing at all but my home office is an acoustically treated audio room so the room sounds fantastic. That always helps any audio. Still can’t help the DJI though haha. Built in mic doesn’t sound good at all.
Thanks for going through my comment. We are actually on the same boat. I can’t find a reason to keep the Dji. I don’t have a treated room, I couldn’t work on it, at least now. I appreciate your tip. I was trying to give a chance for DJI Mic 2 everyday since I got it, But Røde wireless pro built in mic Quality wins all the time. So the question is: If we will be using Lav mic with a wireless unit, why should we buy DJI Mic 2 over more “Pro” level wireless Mics systems like the Rode and others? 😓
A few reviewers were saying that the dji mic 2 is incompatible with many lav mics, is that true in your experience? I agree the rode's built in mic sounds better but the built in mic is a bonus for me cause for professional productions I will be hiding the microphone and this is essentially a drop in replacement for me for the sennheiser G4 system we use and I'm happy to never have to use that thing again.
Some of the lav mics do have issues yet. Just like I talked about in this video about the locking connector. It’s annoying. The countryman b3 microphones I use don’t lock it like they should when I push them. But they work perfect on the rode.
To people who don't hear any difference, are you listening through your phone speakers or what ? There is a lot of difference at some points when you listen with headphones.
No surprise-- The Rode is the clear winner with wider range and it's picking up all the crisp details. DJI has a more user-friendly interface, but the Rode clearly wins in audio quality.
Your composition / crop of yourself seems to be a little bit off to me. It’s like the camera should be moved up a bit, with more room above your head. For the rest, great video. Thx for tips
You just may be my saving grace, I’ve been asking around but little to no responses. Any advice in a lav mic for recording loud audio. I have the dji mic set to -12bd and the exhaust on my mic is just so loud that it clips the audio constantly. I’ve tried some cheap mics but that make the audio sound worse since it can’t record the full quality of the sound.
@@scottmckenna Ohh sorry for the mix up, I use a lavalier mic in my helemt that works perfect at -8dp. But my secondary mic is mounted in the tail of the motorcycle no lavlier connected and wind muff attached. Even with it set to its lowest value -12db it just cant handle how loud the exhaust is and clips the audio so I've been on the hunt for a mic to connect to my dji mic that will allow e to capture the full audio range without peaking the audio.
The Holland MK2 has a tiny transmitter and you can hide the logo with a provided black sticker, if your someone that doesn't usually have the time to lay mic, Id go for that because it even sounds better for a much cheaper price.
Not having internal 32 bit float doesn’t even put it in the same category for the work I do unfortunately but I think that would be a nice option for some people.
DJI Mic 2 sounds better to my ear w/ the Lav. Both sound better w/ the Rode Lav... I think the Rode sounds is much improved. Agree, Rode sounds better w/ just the Transmitter. I actually think the DJI Mic 1 may actually sounds better than the DJI Mic 2 though. Oddly, DJI eliminated the TRRS compatibility in the DJI Mic 2, but it is available & works well on the DJI Mic 1. Odd decision to eliminate that functionality on a Mic that's supposedly friendly for mobile content creators. To get the TRRS Lavs to work, I use a Rode SC3 TRRS to TRS connector. Annoying that it's necessary.
Hi Scott. Great comparison. I don't own the Rode PRO, but do have the Go II and from my findings I still prefer the Rode compared to the DJI. The Mic 2 seems to need a bit EQ. I read that DJI might bring out a firmware so we'll see. Another thing I found is that the noise cancellation on the Mic 2 sounds muffled and sometimes sounds like if auto tune was added depending of the background noise. I usually keep it off. However, I still like the Mic 2 system mainly because of convenience and the ease of use with the Pocket 3 and the Action 4. I like the touch screen and the rotary wheel of the DJI versus the Rode system. Look forward to see more videos about these mics. Thanks for this video.
Thanks for the comparison. The Rode sounds noticeably better to me. The DJI sounds a lot more muffled. Nothing you couldn’t fix with EQ but a distinct difference out the gate, IMO.
Agreed.. Seems to be in just about every test..I mean rode is a sound company.. Id never buy a gimbal from rode.. Or a camera from Sennheiser.. DJI seems to have rushed this one. It's cute though in a 90s pager kinda way
@@rezjrprod haha yeah. I think it’s a solid value but is definitely missing some key things. I really expected it would be definitively better than the Rode but nope.

Not sure which piece you're talking about.
The Rode sounds better - hands down - BUT that lav into the DJI sounds like it'd be usable with EQ in post. Pretty similar for sure.
