But turbo will be going on in about a week the biggest challenge with this is the Intake hose I ordered a larger one but this inlet is 2.2" big! Kevin Mcintire yes I found a 2" inlet on eBay that was the hugest I could fine with out going to 3" . XS Power some eBay brand Just primed the turbo spent all day replacing it going for a test drive soon
Performance Dubs it's holding up fine no matter what intake I use the coolant pipe is still In the way when I have time again I have to shift it over or delete a section
i made one of these a year ago. the waste gates bend open. so you need to come up with uprated waste gate i was running a k04 cover with an elbow welded on because the A/R is bigger on the 1.8t k04 covers. 47.5mm compressor wheel and 49mm exhaust wheel. you also need to port out the hot side loads to even flow that, the back pressure in this one in the video will be massive

Interesting. Good project. The 1.8t is prob one of the most common modified turbo engines on the road. I have one in my b5 passat. (AEB). And I got my first taste of German horse power. Which basically means it's underrated. Mine is a 150 hp paired with a five speed manual. And I can repeatedly put a hurting on a 200 hp GM 3800 motor in a similar weight vehicle. Just doesn't add up. Who's numbers are wrong. GM or VW?
These 1.8s have potential. How was the carbon buildup on turbo ?Or is this mk5 1.8? Btw i migh be interested in this. Come 100k miles im redoing everything and buying toyotas as dailyies.lol
Why didnt you just cut of the diffusor of the housing to replace it with a normal tube later... Its just damping the turbo sounds... Useless for us tuners haha😂
this might sound like a silly question but is it possible for you to convert the k03 from a thrust bearing into ball bearing? if so, what would the benefits be? (other then faster spool up of course)
forget the 1.8t and focus on the new k03 2ltr turbo vw has been running it's a good starting point for people that don't want to go k04,IHI is38 or big turbo pushing the stock turbo to be more reliable is a better option and if u can make the turbo perform better with a easy rebuild kit would be great for the vw scene

I did it for a shop. I don't plan to make another unless I make a sample to be remade. The compressor and turbine housing are both a challenge so I don't do the 1.8t upgrade very often but I could have these parts remade which is expensive to me but it would be affordable to the customer.
I just acquired an 03 jetta. 200,000 mi on chassis. 120,000 mi on a used engine. Drove on a 2 week vacation over 5000 mi. This car is worth playing with. I am beginning to revamp it. I would pay $100 above your cost to get a kit.
The amount of people on VW forums that would buy this kit is amazing. Hopefully you can start producing these.

You are right that is a sound muffler there on the end of the compressor housing.
