    I graduated from High School in 1969. Magical time of wonderful music, dances, Pop festivals that lasted 3 days and weren’t expensive, free lovin and just the most beautiful time ever.❣️ There is nothing like it today sad to say. Wish my sweetheart was here to enjoy all this old outstanding music with me.

      I did too. My first transistor was also yellow. I got mine in 1968 when I was 14. I remember listening to Mary Hopkin - Those Were The Days - 1968 and the Amazing Mets of 1969. Fight of the Century with Ali and Frazier 1971. hmm, Good Times.

    I went in the Navy because of the Draft in 1969 and it was the first time I was on my own and I will tell you it was the most exciting unsure time of my life. I have never had a time in my life equal to it since. I was in for 4 years and loved and hated it, but all this music was there and to this day, I'm 68, I can instantly connect to this music and go back 50 years! So don't wish your life away because it goes WWWAAAAYYYY TTOOO fast!

    Watching the Grammys 2019, while listening to this RUclips video, just to remind myself that there ACTUALLY was a time when MUSICAL TALENT was a premium prerequisite for securing a recording contract. So many memories attached to this year and the songs that defined it...and watching what's on the screen at this moment, all I can think is, "My, how far we've fallen!" Just listening to The Record of the Year nominees makes me want to jump in the nearest time machine for a trip back to 1969!

      On the one hand, I'm a big fan of John Fogerty because of all the great songs that he helped CCR create. On the other hand, I'm upset with him for leading to the breakup of this all-time great band. He couldn't seem to get along with his bandmates (including his brother) or the record company. Obviously, there are two sides to every story and it may not have been all his fault. But then, many years later, he refuses to play with the surviving members when CCR gets inducted into R&R HoF. How long can you carry a grudge? They probably had alot more great songs left in them, but we'll never know.

    Thank you for putting this together. I remember most of these songs; the ones I didn't know appear to have been album cuts. The U.S.-based sports teams the Chicago White Sox ("Nah Nah Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye"), Detroit Red Wings ("Octopus' Garden"), and Boston Red Sox ("Sweet Caroline") all took theme songs from 1969. Plus we got four hits from the musical "Hair" - "Aquarius"/"Let the Sunshine In", "Easy to be Hard", "Good Morning Starshine", and the title song. There's a song sung by Andy Kim but not written by him plus one written by him but not sung by him ("Sugar, Sugar"). Ditto for Nilsson ("One").

    • @michaelrawson6261
      @michaelrawson6261 5 лет назад

      Yes, Lisa, it's absolutely true, in almost every way possible! The music then, was (well, as you can hear clearly on this compilation!) Far better! No garbage, no autotune, no drum machines, no idiot young fellas who all sound the damned same, no silly young girls, gettin virtually their entire kit off just for a video, then wondering why nobody with a brain or any musical taste takes them in the least bit seriously!!! Nobody from EITHER gender, covered from head to foot in ridiculous, meaningless, hideous and revolting tattoos. No idiot ego-maniacs, charging the stage at awards ceremonies, completely wrongly, just to talk garbage, because they feel their opinion is "just SO important!" groups and artists who wrote their own stuff instead of having it all written by the same two blokes, BOTH using the SAME 4 CHORDS, and all sounding identical. REAL instruments, REAL singers... REAL talent. Yes... things were VERY different then... and much better! (I was born in '69 and will be 50 in Feb '19) and I've been privileged enough to have heard it ALL. Peace.

    Since there are so many titles, it may be nice to list them A couple of honorable mentions that may, or may not be, on the list.
    - 1969 - The Stooges. This song was one of the defining, existential pieces of the time
    - Gimme Gimme Good Lovin' - Crazy Elephant. I used to rock on this one as a youngster in that year
    - Good Morning Starshine - Oliver. All things "Hair" were huge in 1969, and this was one of them.

    Yes there were some crap songs in the top hits of 1969 but compared to the stagnated hip hop and throw-away dance music that dominates top 40 today... can't imagine 46 years from now anyone wanting to hear it. Maybe most young people are too into social media and video games to form any real movements that steer music. Instead they just take whatever product the industry throws their way. OR maybe I am just old...
