When I am ripping sheets I follow the same process but I use a very long (cheap) combination square for measuring the rip. This ensures absolutely zero chance of the rip being out of parallel. I also use remote switching for dust extraction but I invested in "kinetic" switches and I can pair up to 3 switches per machine and I placed them strategically around the workshop...works out cheaper than Festool and works pretty much with any machine..
