I just added an 8 inch borders around a quilt. It's big, so it was awkward to quilt the border. I still needed to make it bigger so this time I quilted the borders first. I made it 4 inches longer to allow for shrinking and the joined it to the quilt. Thank you for sharing these videos. It didn't occur to me make quilts this way.

Ohh Wow Monica!!! I discovered you about a year ago and did Subscribe to you. I was getting notices for a while and then I lost track of you. I just found this one this morning and I m in tears with excitement…. I have been looking to make my younger daughter a quilt, I did finally get one top done but now need to get it quilted. But seeing this one you just finished and seeing the fabric prints - it’s Screaming at me “This is it!” Lol
Really quick- we are here in the US, my husband has family in Australia and he finally was able to go visit them just 2-3 yrs before he pasted away ( only 54). My daughter missed him Soooo much and when I saw this - well…. I thought maybe this would help her seeing these beautiful, Bright prints. I think they are a type of Aboriginal prints.. I recognize the dots, but have never seen such bright prints.
Monica, could you please tell me the name of that designer? I’m hoping those prints are maybe in s pre-cut bundle. The name of the backing would be get also if you don’t mind. I will be getting your patterns - I want to make this for her Just the way you have this and I will be soooooo excited to be able to Quilt this at the same time and have it completely made by me for here.
We are all wanting to make the trip over there to visit his family but maybe this will help her extreme depression in the meantime. Thank you Sooo much for Any info you can share. You and your daughter make a Fantasias team. Thank you Both for sharing and teaching your methods. 💕💕😘😘

So glad that you found us again and lovely that you would like to make the quilt, sounds like it's meant to be!
The fabric is designed by Alaura's partner, he's an Indigenous Australian artist. We had the fabric panels printed in Australia and are about to do another print run. It's a panel with 16 prints that make up the quilt, along with a solid background. The backing fabric is one that I had in my stash for 10 years so is no longer available, here is a link to our website where you can watch a video on the requirements list. www.patternpoole.com/post/island-home-requirements-list-run-through
The course notes are available on our website, you can purchase them separately and work at your own pace or pay up front and join the dedicated Island Home Facebook group where you can download the course notes, watch the videos, share photos of your work, connect with others and ask questions, it's a lot of fun! Here is a link with the details: www.patternpoole.com/purchase-course-notes
My condolences for the loss of your husband, quilting can be a good distraction from the challenges of our lives and I hope that making this quilt will bring you and your daughter a little happiness.

@@PatternPooleTV that sounds like a great team you have there. 😉. Is there anyway that I could get some of that fabric when it’s ready? When my husband brought home some keepsakes from there it was all in this types of prints. I even made a special wedding quilt from some of those types of prints because when our oldest son got married ( 3 months after my husband was gone) he and his bride went to Australia for their honeymoon. His 2nd time there. I think these prints would mean so much to her. Thank you.

    Hi there!
I admire your work. I am getting ready to make a quilt with your "as you go" method for the first time. I was wondering what batting you use? I like the 100% cotton quilter Dream select. But my preference is for wool batting. Is it recommended for "as you go?
Have you ever used wool batting? If so, what are the results?
    Thank you.

I couldn’t read the light colored font in the captions since the background was also light. Maybe keep those in a more contrasting type. The information was very helpful though.
