  • A video showing replacement of the three rubber exhaust hangers on the rear section of the exhaust system on a 2006 530xi (touring). These were replaced because of an odd shake that the system had developed under certain conditions (shown in the video).

Did the three new hangers fix the cruising speed vibration or was it the rear wheel being out of round.
Bmw spec for the E60 is 1.8mm max of tire radial runout.

Yes, the hangers did the trick. My vibrations were really odd and hard to chase down, because they only happened occasionally. Also, if I was on a rough(ish) road, the vibrations never happened (I suppose the exhaust couldn't achieve the necessary resonance to start shaking like it does in the video). Making it more complicated (before the time of this video) there were a few other things that also contributed to some sort of drivetrain vibration, which were fixed one by one, each helping, but this final step was the really hard to diagnose one!

Part number? Or where can I find these?

I bought mine from (IIRC) Pelican Parts. I gave the new owner all the receipts, and don't have the part number any longer. Drop me a line if you can't find anything and I'll see if I can recover the info somewhere else.

Strange question. Do you know what jack stands you have in the front and back? I am planning on buying a set soon, and the height difference in the 3 and 6-ton has me concerned.

I honestly don't remember. I have five or six sets, and mix and match as necessary. I think the small ones are two ton, and the larger ones are 3 ton. That works well because the three ton stands start out a little under the full lift of my low-profile floor jack, allowing me to fine-tune the height of the two ton stands as needed to get the car level (a good idea when topping off transmission fluid for example).
