      It was a UNANIMOUS decision for WCW creative to make Booker the champ at Bash at the Beach. It's just that Hogan was using his creative control card so he could win the title and Russo countered Hogan by a "scathing promo".

    I understand why Booker will always have that sentiment towards Russo. Even if you hate the guy, he was the one that finally gave Booker his big shot with winning the World Title for the first time.

    Russo did good putting Booker over. Was sick & tired of Hogan taking the spotlight & not pushing new talent. Despite WCW dying & hanging by a thread at least people like Booker & Scott Steiner were pushed

      Hogan not pushing new talent?…I recall Goldberg beating Hogan for the title, and no rematch was ever booked.
      Russo had good intentions of using new talent but failed horribly in his execution. Booking Jeff Jarrett to lay down for Hogan is one example.

    Vince Russo had the balls to give Booker the title the same night Hogan walked out on WCW refusing to job to Jarrett, for that alone he deserves huge credit since the majority of the people would've appeased Hogan giving him the belt at the expenses of pushing new talent, since Hogan had all the leverage and the fanfare behind him, Eric Bischoff included

    Dude Booker T was one of the all time greats who isn’t considered enough in that conversation. Athletic big man with a hell of a pop to his move set. He was one of a kind. I loved watching Booker T as a kid.

    My only problem is that once he got to WCW, he stopped having someone to filter his ideas. He had some great ideas and loved a lot of it, but he needed someone to say NO, because not EVERY idea should go on TV, and Vince put everything out there, and so much of it was crap....

      You can say a lot of negative things about Russo because he was, on balance, a _terrible_ wrestling booker, but to give the devil his due, he was always looking for new stars to make and pushing younger talent, even if not always competently. One of the reasons he was more effective in WWF during the Attitude Era (when he had Vince to filter out his worst crap) was that he tried to make sure everyone had SOMETHING to do, giving the company one of the strongest midcard scenes in the history of the business.

    One of the greatest moments ever! Everyone was so happy to see Booker get that chance to shine! He was always a huge fan favorite but overnight he became another elite main event top guy up there with Sting, Goldberg, Nash, Hogan, Jarrett, Steiner, Macho. Loved seeing Booker up there. We should have seen more of Booker wrestling all those guys. His style could work with anyone. The crowd reactions in the 90s never lied.

    One thing I'll praise Russo for is that he wanted to help the younger talent when certain older talent wanted to keep them down. Without him not sure if Booker would have got the chance. And he did a great job.

    He was right. Without Russo, Booker wouldn’t have finally gotten to main event status or even gotten the championship. He was held down to mid card status for too long and he had all the talent and capability of a main event headliner at the time.

    Vince & Bischoff wrestling wise treated Booker T 1000% better than McMahon or Triple H did. Now money-wise might be a different story, I don't know. Because by the time Booker T stepped into WWE they had brought up all the competition.

    Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Booker T had everything but the trajectory, Russo was the guy willing to give him that.

    About the only VR story ive ever enjoyed. Booker T is top 5, dead or alive, on my favorites list. He deserved the title long before he got it, just like Ron Simmons.
