Turning Hogan heel was an absolute out of the box idea. It was a huge chance that paid off BIG! The only mistake in the NWO storyline was bringing SO MANY DAMNED PEOPLE INTO IT.
@Meta Man true. The only difference being that DX didn't water the concept down with 1000 members. DX also was more light & comical where the NWO was more about brute force. I don't know how true it is, but around the time of the NWO there was a ground swelling about a one world government that was given the title of "The New World Order". I had heard that Ted Turner was a big supporter of the one world government concept. I always thought that if that was true, what better way to indoctrinate millions of people to the New World Order idea than to have that NWO wrestling faction in their homes every week. You take the biggest star on the planet in Hulk Hogan & have him saying "New World Order" weekly... Again, I don't know if that was all true or not but if you were looking to push a real world political agenda & you KNOW you have millions of eyes staring at their TV every Monday night...
Harlem hangover, the scissor kick, the spinarooni, the the spinning roundhouse kick, from a tall guy with the amount of technique and extension... made me a true fan. You are one of the best I wish you had become undisputed champ
I loved Stevie Ray in the nWo. He would complain when other members were not wearing their nWo tee shirts. But when asked why he wasn't wearing his ... he responded with, "What? This a $500 shirt"
Booker T was one of the best pro wrestlers of all time but i wonder that after booker was super kick out of the nwo he should have fued with hbk to get revenge he should get hbk on the show
That's because HBK became the Top Face in the WWE right after the nWo was disbanded when Triple H had turned on him. Booker T was a face at the time too so it didn't make any sense for them to feud.
Booker t shouldve joined the wolf pac they couldve used him to bolster their ranks against nwo hollywood and booker vs stevie ray wouldve been awesome with the two factions setting up the rivalry
Nile Harding good point!! I didn’t even consider that. Looking back Wcw Truly didn’t take advantage of many opportunities they had to build better feuds
The problem nobody wants to admit to is how badly botched nWo was in WCW. They never had a long term plan for it. There was no conclusion to WCW v nWo. Instead fans got nWo infighting, red v black. Ideally looking back nWo should have lost to WCW cleanly, clearly and in doing so put over a fresh class of workers THEN have the red v black breakdown. Eventually you end up with interesting storylines and the wrestlers with the talent and experience to headline while the old guard slowly fades away. Just an opinion but guys like Benoit, Booker T, DDP, Rey, Eddie, Jericho, Wrath, Kanyon, Raven, Kidman, Chavo, Ultimo Dragon, Scotty Riggs, Disco, Alex Wright, Malenko, La Parka Bagwell, Giant Paul White would have been better equipped to lead WCW into a competitive and profitable 2000's. Hall, Nash, Hogan, Savage, Flair, Sting, Henning and Lex all should have been on legacy contracts post nWo and used very sparingly to spike ratings.
He hit the nail on the head. I remember watching match after match where that NWO music would come on for too many wrestlers. They ran it into the ground.
Booker T mentioned a lot of guys he tagged with in the WWE but forgot to mention the most iconic. He forgot Goldust. How could he forget about Bookdust? Booker T and Goldust at the Movies was hilarious 😂
It’s too bad Vince’s ego wouldn’t allow nWo to thrive in WWE. nWo is the greatest group ever created, and it almost killed WWE, so it must’ve been cathartic for Vince to get the last laugh by buying WCW and squashing nWo. It was personal, not business.
@ULTRA KWON...That's what Vince does. If some other company gets a good idea, Vince gets the guys over & buries it. NWO, Broken Matt Hardy, now the Bullet Club. If Vince doesn't come up with it...he tries to kill it.
I don't think that's how it went down. Hogan got red hot after his match with the Rock at Mania. So wwe truck the iron while it was hot. Scott hall demons followed him in wwe so they wasn't having it. So the thrill was gone without the core 3. They tried to add Xpac, Booker, Shawn and Big Show to the fold. The end up being one of the worst renditions ever. The Nwo hype was done by that time.
When NWO came to WWE with in a few months Kevin Nash was injured, Scott Hall was having discipline issues, and Hulkamania was starting to run wild again.
It's been a while for me. Was he kicked from NWO or DX? Because Michaels was back with DX at that point wasn't he? I just remember I hated it, and hated that Book never got even.
Booker hands down you dont want to say it but I will. You was were and still is the shit, as a kid you was the man, when Ron Simmons left you took over. Then when you did the transition from The WCW Double Champ to King Booker has been a blast to watch. The matches between you and Stone Cold were some of the best till this date. Tell me He Just Didn’t Say That was a catch phrase i used and even got kicked out of class for sayin it to a teacher. Just a hella of Honor to be able to say Thanks Champ for The Harlem Heat and Awesome memories! Now Can You Dig That Sucka!!!
The nWo theme was one of the best themes of all time. It worked well. And the fact Hogan had his own theme and the B members had their own theme made it all the better.
The funniest segment ever with Booker T when he told Kevin Nash that he couldn’t get down with the NWO theme lol. Search that vid up ASAP lol. “Booker T doesn’t like NWO music”
Greg Gagne is allegedly the person credited for coming up w/ the nWo. The story Kevin Nash told is back when wCw was at Center Stage in ATL, Kevin Nash was still Master Blaster, & Gagne walked by him & whispered "New World Order" years before it happened & before The Kliq
Im a huge Harlem Heat fan but Booker T's single run was a highlight of Nitro for me. The T.V title run, best of 7 against Benoit, Finley, Saturn, Bret Hart, just to name a few
i liked when book had his high top fade lol. he is a great person, along with sting. i have lots of respect for both of them. book keeps it real and always has.
Booker T was the Black Rock for a minute. We joked....If ya SEEEEEE...... What BOOKER T SEE!!! That was his catch phrase as we mimicked the Rock. Lol. Huhhh the good ole days!
The way they talked about/around race goes to show why the 90s were a much better time. So much more honesty. Today’s kids recruiting a Black guy into their group would either pretend it wasn’t about diversity or they’d just awkwardly say the word “diverse” out loud. Weirdos.
the 2002 nwo was a flop. hogan was pulled out way too quickly, and when Scott hall got fired, the nwo pretty much ended there. the Kevin Nash nwo run was pretty much a slow painful death up until his quad injury.
Vince was never going let nobody from WCW ratings war succeed. That why WWE version died. Plus Austin refuse to job against Hall. WWE wrestlers never job to WCW guys.
NWO started out as such a great angle when it was just the original 3 but as soon as it started more and more memebers it lost its magic and like Booker said when 75% of the roster is coming out to the same music it was time to give it up
NWO is my favorite time in wrestling! Haven't watch it really since. That was a crazy moment in wrestling. 90 straight weeks beating the WWE said alot. Getting too big messed it up.
I don't care what Booker say.. in the WWE they put him in the NWo just to embarrass him like always. If you look at Booker t's career in the WWE they humiliated him bad
Great insight! The problem with the nWo is simple. They couldn't decide is they were a faction or a complete wrestling organization. I've heard Bischoff say it was meant to become a separate organization but if that's the case why didn't they wrestle each other? Lol....🤔😏. Once they had the split from The Wolfpac I guess that was closer to what Bischoff says and that's probably when Nash approached Booker T. Instead they ended up with a guy like Luger who didn't fit at all. In the end they were truly a faction who ran as a pack vs WCW so that's where having 20 guys becomes overkill and stale. The last straw was reforming into nWo Elite, and that damn fingerpoke of doom.
I remember watching them put Book in the 2002 nWo and thinking "damn WWF knows how to screw up anything they didn't create!" That group looked so stupid together in my opinion. Although I didn't appreciate the unceremonious KICKING out of the group (especially since he had no retribution v Shawn but that's WWF keeping Booker down once again during the early days smh 😒), I was happy to see him out of the group. It's pretty obvious Booker isn't a "faction guy" especially not in his prime at that time. He was awesome in the MEM in TNA but that worked for ALL of those guys even Sting as a bunch of legendary veterans.
Booker says the NWO couldn't have worked in the WWE but I think it could if certain things hadn't happened. The "plane ride from hell" happened, Scott Hall relapsed, Kevin Nash got injured twice and eventually Vince decided Triple H wasn't going to join and then he eventually scraped the whole angle. With HBK and HHH, the DX originals, joining the NWO with their Kilq buddies it would have worked for sure and it might have been as big as DX or even the original NWO.
The NWo should never had expanded to the size it did....there the DX thing could have been emulated. The core group of NWo was beyond dope af and the villainy was on point especially when Hollywood Hulk switched up and joined

PREACH AND KEEP PREACHING.
Not even the biggest problem biggest problem was it lasted too long and WCW never really got to beat the nwo
Backstage politics mess up the NWO . Nash and Hoang fighting over power.
That was and is my main and only problem with the NWO

you gotta say King Booker with the full english accent

@@fmthebaron HBK top face? What year? When NWO was in WWF? HBK wasn't "top" face at that time, he was in the mid 90s though
That whole angle was weird and left a sour taste in my mouth, Booker's treatment in particular.
@jules Mateo
Same for me. DX kept getting over on Book and he never got payback. Especially after that nappy headed comment HHH made.
Booker T reppin dat Texaz mane we rootin" fa u niggggggaaaaaaa"!!!!!!!😂😂😂😂😂
He could play a great Sho Nuff in a The Last Dragon remake.
True but wasn't Sho Nuff taller

He forgot to mention Booker T and Golddust. I wonder if he forgot or didn’t like the team.
I think it was just the train of thought he was going on. He mainly naming exceptions from WCW
There's no way! He always looked like he was having fun in those goldust segments
"We need some color bro." - Kevin Nash. Lol. Well, they had Virgil eventually, Dennis Rodman, and Stevie Ray.
Im 30 now. Havnt watched since i was like 10 or 11 but Booker was one of my favorites who i can remember vividly. Especially his spins lol
Booker T was the best. I appreciate him being a great athletic Big man. He seems very humble too.
