    I just recently switched over from cigarette smoking, over a pack a day,to smoking cigars about six months ago, and I’m happier than I could ever be, my girlfriend likes the smell of cigars, because her dad smoked them when she grew up, he passed away when she was 10, so it brings back memories to her. I’m enjoying myself when I smoke cigars, I don’t smoke them like I would with cigarettes. With cigarettes, i would smoke them because I needed to, because if I didn’t I wouldn’t feel right, but with cigars, I smoke them because I want to, and because they bring me pleasure and relaxation.
    As a somewhat newcomer to the cigar world I found this video especially helpful, I watched it for the first time a week or two into me starting out, and it corrected a few issues I was making. Now, six months later I am starting to understand more about cigars and what I like and don’t like about certain types, and certain brands and all that.
    I really appreciate the help!

    Met and spoke at length with Nick several times at Cigarfest. He is very personable and down to earth. The first time we met he asked us where we were from and we talked for 5 minutes or so. The next year, we walk up, he smiles and says, "Ah, my North Carolina boys. Good to see you again. How are things at home? I love North Carolina." He remembered us among the thousands he meets and that meant a lot. Great guy - class all the way. And great cigars, too.

    Great points! And while using a lighter make sure you're using a butane lighter. This makes sure that the common lighter fluid flavour doesn't tamper the flavour of your cigar. Also, while using matches, allow the flame to burn through the sulfur and phosphorus in the head and then light it to avoid the harsh flavour of those. Or even better, light a cedar strip with the match and use that to light the cigar.

    This was GOOD! I learned some good tips: lighting the tip so that the wrapper and binder bind together. Also, why not to take off the wrapper until the flame is about to hit it because of the possible damaging effects to the cigar. Interesting to note his 25% turns. I normally would just rotate to get the foot of the cigar lit, but good explanation as to why the charring effects the taste.

    Love Perdomo cigars, their one of my favorites! I've been smoking cigars 30 years, I love a good full bodied cigar, whenever I can get one, but no less then a medium!
    Another good, but not as pricey cigar is Aurora! I got some in a sampler from Famous Smoke Shop, and fell in love! At Famous you can get a box of 20 for about $85 sometimes less, even though their regular price is at least $200 elsewhere!
    I've been ordering from Famous for the last 10 years, before that I got my cigars from my local smoke shops! But they were so much more expensive then ordering them from Famous Smoke Shop!
    I'm on a fix income, so I can't afford to buy a box for $200, but once a month I do buy a couple boxes of Aurora's! Yes a couple, because I smoke at least 2 cigars. Churchill's, a day, so I smoke a lot of cigars,lol!
    I have never smoked cigarettes, sure I tried them many years ago, but could never see the appeal! I loved the smell of cigars, even before I ever smoked one! Even as a kid liked the smell of cigars and pipes, but hated the smell of cigarettes, and still do!
    I even smoked pipes, with pipe tobacco, then started using the pipes to smoke the butts of my cigars up, but now I don't do that anymore!
    I do use mostly a flat cutter, so that won't be a problem, but I do usually take the label off, to save them mostly, but I guess I can wait until it burns closer to it first!
    And like he said, I also smoke my cigars until they are so small I can barely hold them, and sometimes I have to use my fingernails to hold them, so they won't burn my fingers,lol!
    All the men around me, my brothers and some friends, can't smoke a cigar completely in one sitting, even a robusto, they can only smoke half or maybe a little more than half, but not the whole thing! And they really think its weird that I can not only finish a Churchill in one sitting, but will smoke it until its burning my fingers,lol! Most of them smoke only cigarettes, I don't know anyone who smokes cigars regularly, except online on Facebook,lol!

    This is good! ive seen several cigar lighing vids but none explained why to toast. They may say to do it but never went into depth. But you did. Also why to leave the band. Maybe its me, because I am a research junky! I want to know WHY! awesome video. Thank you

    • @pubicturmoil
      @pubicturmoil 7 лет назад +8

      Personal preference. Band on or off makes no difference, but changes the look of the cigar. And to me a cigar is a piece of art which looks more complete with the band on. I remove it once the burn closes in!

    • @pubicturmoil
      @pubicturmoil 7 лет назад +4

      If the glue used putting the band on has touched the cigar it can destroy the outer layer of the cigar (the wrapper) if you remove the band. Usually that is no issue at all with Perdomo cigars, their bands are almost always applied in a great way that causes no issues when removing the band. Other companies are more sloppy so the risk of wrapper damage is higher.

    • @sin8800
      @sin8800 7 лет назад +3

      I'm a research junky too and I've been smoking cigars for a good six months now. Every single time I toast my cigar the first 4 or 5 puffs coats my mouth with a burnt wood taste. I usually have a drink on hand to help me to through the first 1/2 inch. I had no idea you don't toast the center/filler. I think more people need to make "how-to" videos with these details of specifications.

      I've also heard people say to blow twice after you toast your cigar. It gets rid of the woodsy taste.

      yeah, I started doing that too and it evens out the burn into a clean ash. It's little details like this that everyone should know. Not even complicated either.

    I taught Nick everything he knows. I remember like it was yesterday . . .he'd sit on his mother's lap by my side at our home in the San Esperanza. He always sought to know more about the industry, even from a young age. I'm so proud of the man he's become . . .I'm so proud to call him my son.

    I have been told so many times how to light a cigar on RUclips, everyone burns the damn thing, and then gives the same explanation as you. Well toasted, perfect fireball action on the light, a true master.

      @@CigarAdvisorMagazine Mr. Perdomo, I have a question with regard to smoking/puffing.
      I've heard you advise along the lines that intervals of anywhere from 30 to 45 seconds are ideal and (and please correct me if I'm wrong) that one shouldn't puff on a cigar as frequently as one might on a cigarette as it may cause the tobacco to heat up to a degree where the taste of the cigar may be ruined or compromised. Multiple draws/rapid puffing is not advised, correct?
      I see video after video, mainly on RUclips, of people not only taking rapid, multiple puffs (a guy named Bradley and his daughter Savannah at Zeal Cigars are both famous for doing that) but also "torch" lighting the foot in the manner which you DON'T advise! Makes me wonder how many of these folks really know what they're doing/talking about when it comes to cigars. Thanks for the great, highly useful information!

      @@GBPackFan62 Thanks for watching and we appreciate your comment. We believe in whatever works best for you is the correct way. We all do things differently, but the best part about our hobby is we can always learn something new. Personally, I have been a cigar smoker for years, but watching this video a bunch of times I started lighting my cigar more carefully and pre-lighting/toasting it to seal the binder and filler. I noticed my cigars burn better now. Our main advice, always keep an open mind and be willing to try new things.

    Nik Perdomo, you're a legend. I've been toasting the shit out of the filler and causing tunnelling for over year now, and you have finally set me right. Love your cigars mate, the 20th Anniversary Sun Grown was my first Perdomo. Cheers for all the good smoking memories future and past. Thumbs up

    I met Nick at Tobacco Locker last year here in Florida, he told me to try a Vintage12, did, it was excellent. That night I purchased a box of Lot 23, another favorite, Mr Perdomo autographed the box. It remains in my collection. Also got. Perdomo Torch lighter. Which I keep in my golf bag. It was a gift from his assistant😉
