Thank you rawan! I came on here specifically to find out how to get back to the mock-up. I am not a tech savvy person and am so lost! Sure hope I figure it out as I've heard so many good things regarding PK.
I just learned about this app yesterday and downloaded a bunch of my patterns and am still trying to figure everything out, this was a big help. Can't wait to get started with this program.
You need to use your finger at the top buttons probably cause it is close to the edge of the screen and the touch sensitivity may be off in those areas. I know if I get too close to the edge left or right on my Samsung Tab A it starts to loose some mobility in my s-pen.
Great video. Getting ready to use on a Jan Hicks but don’t understand why the colors don’t show up for the flosses one the legend? They’re NPI colors. Any thoughts? I also can’t get a full view of the pattern. It only shows me a screen at a time.
May I ask how much RAM memory you have on your Samsung tablet and are you happy with the performance. I’m thinking of getting one just for Pattern Keeper.
Hi Susie, I bought mine just for pattern keeper, and I use an iPad pro for all my other basic computing and video editing. For pattern keeper it works fine but I do notice how sluggish it is when I use it for browsing and switching between apps etc. Compared to my iPad anyway! But honestly if I were to choose what to get I would go for a larger screen (mine is 8in with 2 gb ram) over more RAM unless you also plan to use all the tablet capabilities. Pattern keeper uses up battery because it stays on as long you use it and I didn't talk about that either. But I Hope that helps!
Thank you SO much for your insight. Excellent tutorial on getting started. I'm a Mac/Apple user as well...I also got an Android just for PK. I'm curious to know what application you are using on your ipad for cross stitch patterns? I want to start going paperless too. Thanks again! Melissa L.
Hi Melissa! I have used PDF expert on my iPad for a couple years, which you can highlight symbols on a lot of charts. It really depends on if the Pdf file is coded rather than just a flattened “picture” of a pattern. Also having a backup is important!! But Apple has a very good iCloud system in place ☺️ hope that helps!
Hi 👋🏻 Thanks for a great video. I to am a Apple user but heard great things about this app. I don’t stitch full coverage pieces just kits and paper charts patterns. I’m wanting to go to digital as I’m finding it hard to see. Is it hard to upload paper patterns to this app? I have a few PDF apps on my iPad but they are saved in Dropbox. Do you find this app user friendly? As I’m very new to digital apps & charts. Also how much is the app?
It does show page breaks on default when you are zoomed out, but you cannot rotate them any way. It really just shows precisely how the finished product will look.
If you do it on your phone you can cast it to a TV (or Roku, firestick, chromecast, etc). And then just make sure your auto rotate option on your phone is turned off... That will help you with turning the pages. 😉
Hola! 👋I don’t know Spanish, but some people use knitCompanion app on IOS. It will read PDFs and you can mark off. I downloaded it but haven’t used it yet!
I chose 5 pictures I want to download but I don't know how. Do I need to buy the pattern & then it will download? I'm so stuck, lol! But at least I found all the patters to chose from.
Hi Joyce, it would help to know more about what device you are using! But if you're using a tablet like mine any downloads are usually sorted into a download folder after you click on the link. When you purchase a pdf from a website usually they are delivered by download link to your email. I usually upload all my pdfs to Google drive and then import to pattern keeper.
Hi Trina, the only patterns that will work with the app are previously made PDFs. They cannot just be flattened PDFs, i.e. just a picture of a pattern. Not all designers are supported, and a lot of pdf patterns I’ve purchased don’t work with the program. So some patterns I still have to work on with paper, no choice. Does that help?
Hi there! Do you know if Pattern Keeper has trouble importing HAED patters that have more than a certain number of colours, or are bigger than a certain file size? I'm having trouble with two of my bigger HAEDs.
Hallo! How do I go to the screen on 4.29 min? When I open the app. I see the pattern at once, and not the beginning screen. I have just put the app. on my tablet…I have to learn a lot I think…
Thank you so much for this great tutorial! I would love to watch you demonstrate how to stitch and use the Pattern keeper app in real time. I have been intrigued by this app for a while and I decided to buy a Fire. It was a no go and I couldn't figure out how to download google play. Frustrated before I even got started. I sent the Fire back and purchased a Samsung. I was able to download Pattern Keeper and import a PDF from Etsy into Pattern Keeper. I started my morning watching you and I am feeling much better about using it! Thank you, Holly
Hi Holly, thanks so much for your kind comment! I’m glad you were able to get a chart from Etsy in there... I’ve been trying as well but haven’t been able to get any to work other than HAED or artecy yet. I would love to do a demonstration of it with some stitching, I just wanted to cover the basics this time. I’m glad the video was helpful!😁
For the Fire, you have to download the Google framework and then install Play store. I found a tutorial on RUclips to do it. While Kindles are Android based, Amazon overrides it to use only Amazon app store. So you have to sideload Google or root your device and do it that way, sideloading is the easier option of the two.
I haven't tried going back to the ipad from an android, only transferring highlighted pdfs from an iPad to Android.but if you want to save all your progress, you have export every time.
@@Stitchinit i just have pdf on ipad but i’ll be working off the Android for PK. SO i don’t need to see progress just need to keep pdf Why would one need to see progress on ipad if working off app on the Android? sorry….. i tech dumb. Just purchased a Samsung for PK. haven’t received yet
I see! No problem, the pattern keeper app only "reads" the pdf file and makes its own version in the app, it doesn't change or alter where your pdf is stored.
@@Stitchinit so even though I save on PK I should export progress so it stays in cloud should something happens. Silly me. I not brightest with this stuff
Thank you, but I have a question. On fb I saw that people show their progress in actual stitches. When I saved my progress I dont see the picture and get only colour blocks no matter how I zoom in or out, so you dont see the actual picture. What do I do wrong. Fb could not help me. I reinstalled pk twice but still get the same problem. My pattern is a HAED. Thank you
Hi Pamela I’ll try to help in any way I can, but the stitching with pattern keeper FB group probably has the best answers! When you imported your chart did all the colors display correctly in the mockup? Or is it just incorrect while you stitch? You may have to enter the colors individually.
@@Stitchinit yes all the colours were correct, but I downloaded the pattern again and have no issues now, so probably something went wrong with the download. Thank you for your reply. Much appreciated
I know I already asked you a couple questions but if it's just for an android tablet so I guess it don't really matter what kind you buy as long as it is an android tablet because I have a Samsung android tablet but I think it's too small because I'm not for sure how much memory or ram it has to have before it will work would you let me know
I finished one with the same artist from artecy with a paper chart. Afvrov- Love the colors. I don’t think I can get used to PK. 🤷🏻♀️ I don’t have an android. I tried on a fire, but couldn’t figure it out. You did a good tutorial. Maybe I will try it again
I think you can get a stylus that is much more responsive. I have been using this app for 6 months now, I love it! my stylus works a lot better than yours did in this video. For me, it is much more accurate than using a finger.
Yes, if you long press a frog icon shows up near the bottom. I have even restarted a project and deleted a whole page of markings. The newest update has improvements for that though!
@@Stitchinit Thank you. I'm new to cross stitch and jumped in with both feet on a HAED. Hopefully I will learn along the way and it won't come out too horribly. 🤗
When you're selecting your pattern, you can click the three dots next to the pattern name and click "edit legend" - that takes you back to the mock-up
Thank you so much for letting me know!
@@Stitchinit Any time! :)

Can I import patterns from Etsy into this app?
Yes and no. It depends on how the designer formatted their pattern, but in general they usually work. I’ve only had a few that wouldn’t read normally!
