I'd be interested in hearing G3's official eschatological position on one of their podcasts. Be interesting for them to interact with Zechariah 12-14 if they differ from Johnny Mac.

As a fairly new adherent to Reformed theology (1689 LBC) after 40 plus years in legalistic, charismatic, shallow, provisionist-soteriology type churches I am concerned Pastor John’s strong admonishment to embrace his eschatology will simply fuel the fire of division among us. I pray not and I appreciate your delicate, respectful, and honest response to his sermon that I have not seen in its entirety. I am merely a lay person with no credentials other than being chosen by the Father, redeemed by the person and work of Jesus Christ, and sealed with the Holy Spirit, our guarantee of the inheritance promised by God. I will say nothing here to denigrate John MacArthur in any way. His eschatology is plausible but so is Kim Riddlebarger’s , Voddie’s , James White, Doug Wilson, John Piper, Al Mohler et al. Pastor John’s admonition to take eschatology seriously is well intended and true. Being a “pan- millennialist” is probably a bit shallow but I remain unconvinced that we can know with precision the order of every end time passage in scripture. While we can be absolutely certain that Christ will return to consummate this world and glorify His saints I also know that everyone has a personal eschatology. It is of eternal importance and has eternal consequences. So more than a precise cosmic eschatology with details I want to thoroughly understand the Gospel from Genesis to Revelation when Christ the conquering King returns the Kingdom to the Father. This helps me to live a more sanctified life and share His truth. Whether you are hit by a bus or “raptured” tomorrow the result is the same - you will meet God.
The division that concerns me is when a local church writes into their statement of faith a particular eschatology and insists all members agree to it. I cannot lie to sign a statement that I cannot be certain enough to agree with that is secondary at best. I have experienced the left hand of fellowship from JMac influenced churches when I have expressed my leaning towards amil or historic pre-mill. GCC does not do this I know, I have examined their website. They state they teach particular things but only certain essential doctrines are required to be a member in good standing and are non-negotiable.
If I met Pastor John tomorrow I would be honored. I would thank him for being a strong defender of the faith, a Lion for the Faith, for all I have learned from him, and give him a bear hug. I would ask of him only one thing: Please admonish pastors and churches that have modeled after GCC, and with the same fervor you hold to your eschatological convictions, not to make eschatology a primary matter of church membership or standing.
Thank you Josh, Virgil, and Scott for G3 and all you do to minister to His body. Your church finder has been very helpful as my wife and I ponder relocating from Michigan. We will not move anywhere unless we can plug into a local church that teaches sola and tota scriptura; and believes in the sufficiency of scripture along with its plenary inspiration.
To Christ alone be the Glory

    Absolute insanity and quite humorous.

There isn’t a single verse in the Bible that supports the ordination of men. Know the difference between the tradition of men and Sola Scripture. Show me a single verse in scripture where one man can elevate and proclaim another man is how a “pastor”. Some people shout Titus 1:5, Titus 1:5. But please read the verse. God instructed Titus to appoint elders in Crete. Nowhere in the verse are there instructions to the newly appointed elders in a local congregation to continue appointing others in their congregation. Let us not add to God’s Word. Stay with Sola Scripture and reject the traditions of men.

      1 Timothy 4:14 LSB
Do not neglect the gift within you, which was given to you through prophetic utterance with the laying on of hands by the council of elders.
      Acts 13:1-3 LSB
Now there were at Antioch, in the church that was there, prophets and teachers: Barnabas, and Simeon who was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. [2] And while they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” [3] Then, when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
I hope these passages are helpful. If you have questions concerning these, I’m willing to answer. But hope you especially consider acts 13 because of the fact men laid hands on Paul and Barnbas and sent them out as missionaries for the ministry, but God bless you.

@@christ-markedministries Thank you for your response. The verses you quoted described two unique events in the first century, a “prophetic utterance” and “the Holy Spirit said”. Scripture doesn’t provide us with details but clearly people knew at the time it was God that was at work and directing His church. That is not what happens today when people show up and are informed that John Doe is now a “pastor”. I repeat my question, please show me a single verse in scripture where one man can elevate and proclaim another man is how a “pastor”.
Also, please don’t confuse a missionary/church planter with today’s “pastor”. A missionary would go and spread the gospel, gather believers, help them get started then leave. Quite different then today’s “pastor” who starts a business/non-profit corporation, declares himself in charge (Diotrephphes) and never leaves.
“To be an elder in Christ’s ecclesia requires humility and a heart for service. Remember, an “elder” is not a title or office. It’s a function. “Elder” comes from the Greek word presbuteros, which simply refers to an older person. Within their culture, they were worthy of respect and deferment simply because of their age. In Leviticus 19:32, the Scriptural background is given for this respect: "You shall rise before the gray headed and honor the presence of an old person, and fear your God: I am the LORD."
Because of their age and assumed wisdom, they were expected to guide those who were younger. This responsibility was not something they could relinquish since they never asked for it. They received it because they grew old. As old people, the presbuteroi or the elders became the prime group to guide the brethren. This was their responsibility. They were guides! The weight of age coupled with an exemplary life was worthy of emulation.
These were the "elders" mentioned in the New Testament. There was nothing of “rulership,” nothing of being “duly authorized,” nothing of an “eldership board,” nothing of “exercising authority”, nothing of "ministerial dignity," nothing of "occupying a scared office."
If an older man (Elder) is above suspicion, spiritually matured, a good teacher, and truly interested in the genuine welfare of people, HE DOESN'T HAVE TO HAVE ONE OUNCE OF AUTHORITY to be of service to others and to advance the cause of Christ.
He will never be required to have an installation service or some other ceremony. He will never have to demand that people respect and listen to him, for they will do that gladly. If he is Christ-like in every area of his life, showing the same quality of love for others as did Jesus, people will be persuaded by his teaching and example and will yield to his wisdom.” --- exsert from article titled Qualifications at wickedsheperds.com
Please listen to the teaching series I recommended then I will look forward to your comments.
