It wasn't a dry creek bed; if you pause the video, you can clearly see that the soil was moist and that there was standing water below the ramadas by only 8' or so, meaning it had already rained there, that it was already the monsoon season, and yet these people disregarded all reason to set themselves up knowing that more water would flow during the monsoon. Perhaps they were looking for their moment of fame, via their poor judgment. It doesn't take "research", it just takes sense: if it's a creek bed, a wash, don't set up camp or rest in it.

As far as the pilot landing and checking on us after we got out is a joke. It never happened!!!!!!! He did fly over us circling for what seemed like hours to get good footage for the news but no speaker or warning from him. The chopper was white with no markings whatsoever and if I had not gone up to see if the Sheriff was there I would of been toast. Ray is a lot thinner and quicker than me. They don’t show you that after the initial 1 to 2 feet of water that pushes all the debris out of the way it rises to approximately 10 feet in a matter of seconds depending on the wash it’s in. Oh by the way this was Big Bug Creek, 2 miles east outside Cordes Lakes

After watching this video I would like to type in that it is dangerous to be in a desert dry wash since water can come roaring down the wash even if it’s not raining. It is also illegal to be in a desert wash and you can get in severe trouble if someone catches you trespassing in a desert dry wash. It’s both dangerous and against the law to hike in a desert wash.
