Silent movie cowboy star Tom Mix was a former Oklahoma cowboy and lawman who became a wild west show star and made the jump to silent movies in the earliest days of cinema. After making dozens of short comedy Westerns, Selig Polyscope studios began making longer, dramatic Westerns starring Mix.
