- How to dismantle these RSX A410 shifters. Special tool to gain access to mechanism. I’ve been unable to remove those using just pliers. Maybe you can. First part of the video deals with the 7 speed side which I was unable to repair. 3 speed side was successful. I think that the parts were too worn out. Typically, these brifters stop working when the old vaseline based grease dehydrates, becoming solid. However, the small parts get worn inside and I think that was the real issue with the 7 speed side. Yours therefore may not work after degreasing/regreasing. You can go further if you can, attempting to re-tension the 5 or so return springs inside.
Excellent, complete and clear. Thanks a lot for your work, time and explanations. Have a nice day :)
Thank you so much, saved my day !
Great video, had some of the same issues with the hardened grease and cleaning it and re-lubricating it brought these back to life. I do have a broken plastic washer / spacer on the cable hook unit assembly (85Z 9802). Do you know of a replacement source for these?
Great repair vid, thank you!
I am really grateful that you make this type of videos! You explain everything calmly and with details! Because of you I saved my Deore Dx ST-M070 shifters. I have RSX A410 in the same condition as these shown in your video but it seems to be way harder to disassemble them than the MTB ones. The bike I got them from came with 2x7 drivetrain. On the internet there is mixed information whether they are double shifter specifically or there is separate model that can do triple shifting. Do you happen to know that?
EDIT: Confirmed, it could do both - triple and double shifting on front.
Heya man. Your tutorial helped me get back to working order a faulty 105 STI front shifter. The rears also stuck and on the very start i stripped the 2 mm hex bolt. What do you recommend me? To drill it out and use another one from a different brifter?
Try using a torx bit. That is of a similar size and hit with hammer. It should force itself in the metal , then use a bit holder to remove
@@atboy4342 Thanks a lot mate for the tip. I did exactly that and got the bolt out flawlessly. Tonight I succedded in repariing a similiar brifter Ultegra 600 one but with the same mechanism. Altought the downshift brake lever is kinda rough, upshifts and downshifts click fine. Tomorrow i'lll install it on the bike and see how it performs with the cables attached. Wish me luck!
Any chance you might know where to find replacement hoods for these? Thank you
What is the name of the round key with 4 corners and where can I buy it?
There isn’t one, it must be some kind of security key that I somehow found. There is however a 2 toothed security bit that could work
does the Shimano RSX require hg or ig chain?
Likely HG since 7 speed. Any 7/8 speed advertised chain will do
What do you do with this stuff after you repair them?
I put them in a time capsule. Hopefully in 2000 years, people will still be cycling.
