I think it's because of the memories of listening to these bands throughout the day more. I remember when U2's beautiful day would play on my moms stereo came on and it was really beautiful outside, sun shining, partly cloudy, 80 degrees and not a worry in my head. just me being a kid and cloud gazing while thinking on what I wanted to do next.

Absolutely agree with you there. Being a 70's baby, I have always loved Bob Dylan's creative and musical genius. That same energy flows through his son. Very underrated band.
Well, people love hyperbole, don't we? He is great Jakob, no doubt, wrote some fantastc songs. But "just as talented as his dad", haha no. That's way too difficult.
@@jb111082 Funny you mention that, when another commenter mentioned 6th Avenue Heartache. There's a theory that the line "The same black line that was drawn on you was drawn on me," is symbolic for music calling Jakob the same way it called his father.
@@rpmangin I've heard that before, and I tend to believe that. If you've ever heard Three Marlanas, then you can REALLY hear his father coming out in him. Just the way he sings that song.
The lyrics are taken literally to indicate each of the song's verses focusing on a different character. The description of the first character is of an individual who seeks attention ("she only went and did what she did so he would drive her home then"); the second of an individual who wishes for stability & security (she wishes for a husband and a job); and the third, of an individual who values freedom ("I'm headed out on that highway/I'm goin' right out of state"). The three seemingly dissimilar selves are unified in the chorus. 0 7 months ago
+Lorie Russell Unfortunately, you are incorrect. This song is clearly about the savings and loan scandals in the first verse, the second verse is about how movies today are more about violence and making money than to get people to think and to improve upon ourselves. The 3rd verse is about Donald Trump running for President in 2016 and the bands support for his ambitions, while simultaneously bashing Obama and his performance over the past 7 years. These are undeniable scientific facts, and can't be disputed. :D lol

I'm Hugo from Argentina, Catamarca and I love this band, it hurts that I'm far away and I only have this way to congratulate them. Thank you for existing and delighting my ears. Total Thanks

I'm not even a songwriter neither a musician not even a singer. I wrote poetry even I was young. The song was pretty good, and a musician friend asked me to let him include it in his first album. It was a little hit on the old mp3.com site. So thanks for the inspiration, Wallflowers!
This is one of my favorite rifts of all time. I love the way the song flows. A very simple song but the message is clear and the notes resonate through your spirit. Reminds me of my life in the 90's.

I wasn't sure I would get the opportunity to share this song/music video, but luckily it looks like I am going to be able to today! :-) This was the 3rd and last song that they released in 1997 and also the very last Wallflowers song that I know of at all if my memory is correct. I'd sure like to also see them come back together for another hit song too. :-) #THEWALLFLOWERSTHREEMARLENAS
There are still bands that can sell out arenas. I'm not sure about that in the US, but in Europe and other countries, it still happens. For instance, in Brazil, where I live, Guns, Bon Jovi, Roxette, U2, they sell out here!
For some reason jakob taking that fish out of his pocket towards the end of the video really stuck with me. Haven't seen this video since I was a child and I was waiting to see that.

He didn't raise him much. He stayed with his mother. He was 8 when they divorced. They did stay in contact.
Yeah, I was about to say, he did get his pretty boy genetics tho!
So incredibly underrated. I listened to this CD constantly as a kid. Listening while I dye my hair red 😊
Absolutely one of my all time favorites! I remember buying this CD for Christmas in 1997. LOVE IT!!
This song was pretty big back then its really good
Such a solid album!
Jakob played this at a private event because I told him it was my favorite song in high school. I also got a picture with him. Dude is awesome sauce.
Just as talented as his dad, not sure as to why The Wallflowers didn't progress as a group. Great album!

love Jakob's writing. He could be a book poet. Fabulous record from beginning to end. A true must have in any music library, imo.

[Verse 1]
Alone tonight in somebody's bed
She gone and dyed her hair red
She only went and did what she did
Cause he would drive her home then
There's lipstick on her new dress
She hadn't even paid yet
But it doesn't matter where the money went
It wasn't how she paid her rent
[Chorus 1]
One, two, three Marlenas
There's got to be someone we can trust
Out here among us
[Verse 2]
Now lookin' out across the city lights
She thought they'd be a good pair
Now he could make a living sellin' cars
Maybe she could work there
She's gonna pick a star in the night
And pray to make it all right
She tried so hard not to pick a kite
She always prayed to heaven lights
[Chorus 1]
[Chorus 2]
One, two, three Marlenas
It's see no, speak no, hear no evil about us
The three Marlenas
[Verse 3]
Man, I think I'm gonna buy myself a Rolls
Maybe a Chevrolet
One where I can pull that top down
Just let my radio play
Now I'm headin' out on that highway
I'm goin' right out of state
Now I ain't lookin' back until I'm gone
Right through heaven's gates
[Chorus 1]
[Chorus 2]

It runs in the family
