The '90s were much more sane than present day and recent years. When we were in high school literally no one was trying to compete against the opposite sex in track & field. Now it's considered bigotry to prevent it. Where are the feminists? They went from "We must smash the patriarchy" to: "We must protect and defend the patriarchy". If you were a tomboy in school, no one recommended having a mastectomy and hormone blockers/replacements. During childhood I cannot recall one teacher talking about their gender pronouns, sexual orientation and political affiliation. How much worse will things become? Something has to give.
This is one of those rare, special songs that you need to find again and listen to every so often in life just to help you make some kind of sense of whatever is going on that drove you here in the first place. Never give up 👍💪✊
@@tonycostanzo4276 The 90s was 100% an experience! Just with different drugs and feeling I never toughed drugs until 1999 and it was only pot. Nothin compares to the sound of the 90s. Also the look, the feel, the style, the trends. I think everyone misses the 90s especially because it was pretty much the last decade without advanced technology. Days when you still talked with people and your neighbors and not through text.
I think these lyrics are poignant to anyone who ever felt depressed. Sometimes happiness feels a million miles away even when your doing something you love.

I will forever remember how one morning back in the mid-90's, I woke up in front of the tube, around 3AM, just as this video began playing and I then saw it for the first time. By the time she got to the first chorus I had maxed the volume (my TV was patched into my stereo) and by the time Sheryl got to the last chorus the top of my head had blown skyward with a little mushroom cloud coming out of the resulting crater. Yeah, I dig it...this is when women singer/songwriters were kicking the "boys club" asses! I wish it were still going on...well, ANY music for that matter...If it weren't for the pirin tablets, i don't think I could make it!
I cant believe its been 23 years since the wonderful 1990s ended; i consider myself very fortunate to have lived through the 90s as a young adult. Some things i miss: good music/going to record stores, magazine shops, playing my two favorite arcade games at the mall which were Mortal Kombat III and Killer Instinct, I miss our local mall (RIP Parmatown Mall), collecting B-grade horror movies on VHS, i miss going to death metal shows with my sister, having friends and being social....you get the picture. I hope that all the people i once knew are doing well and and i wish them every happiness, and you as well dear reader.
God, thank you for hope within our hearts and for understanding of sorrow when it comes. I pray that you uphold us during those times God, In Jesus mighty name. Amen 🙏
This song is a timeless classic. Listening to it January 1, 2024 sounds as good as it did in The 90’s in my 20’s now I’m 50 and it hits differently. Sheryl you a diva 🎉this jam elevated you to another level . Congratulations on you’re induction into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. Bravo 👏🏽👏🏽 excelente mujer .
I mean yeah I'm in a similar boat and I think it comes down to the fact that it has the gritty sludge of grunge, the raw emotion of punk, the dark undertones of a metal song, and still manages to have a danceable vibe.
I was 15 when this came out. It still takes me back to 1996 so clearly. The feelings and memories so instantly. Even with the feel of the song it's apart of something that i'll never forget. And if given the chance to go back, i'd still play this song.
Very well put. I feel the same way, some feelings are embedded in the soul. I was the same age as you and I can still remember the outfit I wore when It meant something to me.
Being a teenager in the 90s was SUCH AN EMOTIONAL experience. Music was deep and thoughtful...the world was striving to take a better direction . It was a more innocent, optimistic and creative time. It was all about evoking deep conscious and emotion...moving the masses, and ANGST...pure beautiful ANGST!
True. Back when I got married by mistake on a 6 week bender of bad druggos and good sexo, Ceryris Matthews and Sheryl Crow were the only two voices that could chill that husband out! I shite ye not. (Have got court papers to prove it).
@@RonEastwood-cx5hh Dear Ron, that to me is a true tragedy. When someone like her, full of love and life, is taken away too soon, it’s hard to take. You must be very strong to have suffered and gone through so much. Her family as well. I am so sorry for your loss. I hope 24 years later you’re feeling better and thriving in life. I’m sure she would have wanted the very best for her beloved man. Best wishes. 😞💙💛 Edit: sorry for being so nosy 🙈
Thanks for the kind words. We were all devastated, totally unexpected from a routine surgery. It took years for me to move on but I have. It taught me to value each day, you never know when you'll run out of tomorrows. Be well my friend. @annabelles1622
As an accomplished guitar player of a few decades, i can confirm the guitar tones and textures in this song are exceptional and will be celebrated for decades to come
Congrats to your growth of being a guitarist! I’ve got a guitar in my closet I’ve put of for a while. I now want to create music. As a guitarist, the tones in this song, are the tones created simultaneously or is it a layering of tones put together to create a melody? Might sound like a silly question 😂
Today is Tuesday September 24th 2024 @ 5:37 am EST.... song is still a banger . I remember being a little kid riding in the car and singing this song and not having a damn clue what I'm singing about lol... now I'm 35 listening to it while getting ready for work and understand it very clearly now.... the 90s will always hold a special place in my heart 🥹
Everything in this video screams peak mid-90s: grungy soft rock, the blurry , intense colors, the weird stop-motion movements, getting really close to the camera, strange still-life group scenes.

1996 gem ❤ I've been long, a long way from here Put on a poncho, played for mosquitoes And drank 'til I was thirsty again We went searching through thrift store jungles Found Geronimo's rifle, Marilyn's shampoo And Benny Goodman's corset and pen Well okay, I made this up I promised you I'd never give up If it makes you happy It can't be that bad If it makes you happy Then why the hell are you so sad? We get down, areal low down You listen to Coltrane, derail your own train Well, who hasn't been there before? I come proud, around the hard way Bring you comics in bed, scrape the mold off the bread And serve you French toast again Well okay, I still get stoned I'm not the kind of girl you'd take home If it makes you happy It can't be that bad If it makes you happy Then why the hell are you so sad? If it makes you happy It can't be that bad If it makes you happy Then why the hell are you so sad? We've been far Far away from here Put on a poncho, played for mosquitoes And everywhere in between Well okay, we get along So what if right now everything's wrong? If it makes you happy It can't be that bad If it makes you happy Then why the hell are you so sad? If it makes you happy It can't be that bad If it makes you happy Then why the hell are you so sad?
I used to play this WHOLE damn albumn in the bathroom while I shaved my eyebrows, put on eyeliner and thought about each song especially "home." It's funny cause back then it didn't seem like I knew what real hurt meant. But I still understood somehow.
Don't get to highly emotional! This is not the end, only the reset button and the beginning. " Love me as I have loved you." Nothing ever dies but changes and transforms into something more righteous!"
I wanna live this time in my life over and over again too. the music and memories are all i have left. getting older isn't fun, but I lived my youth to the fullest. it was good while it lasted.
Best weekend of my life was at the NHRA Finals in Ennis Texas 2012. We camped 20 feet away from the stage this local preformed. Went to sleep at 3am and woke up and ran the track at 7am. And the singer was a white man in his 40s and he belted out this tune to perfection and we all drank and partied like there was no tomorrow. My god, times used to be simple❤
I remember this song! Especially the "poncho" and "mosquitoes" part. Even as a kid I knew this song was different from what Sheryl Crow usually sang. Twenty plus years later, this song still rocks😁😉
Ms. Crow, This is still to this day one of my favorite all-time jams!!! It's on my current playlist! I'm African-American, and when this song comes on my friends look at me like I grew another head, Lol, but ask me if I care! I was hooked when I first heard it all those years ago! Keep Groovin!!
After all these years I still think "scrape the mold off the bread, and serve you French toast again" is my favorite line. But overall, I just love all the lyrics to this song...feels very real and relatable.
we all think the now sucks.its when we look back we think it was great .it probably wasn't as great as we remember. look forward living in the past will eat away at you.
I grew up to my mom blasting this song in the car. I was 7 years old and me and my brother would scream sing along with her. This song brings back a lot of good memories:)
One of my favourite songs, its reminds me when my sons where teenagers, who knows what they were saying, i always loved when they did things themselves. Being a mothers is so beautiful to watch
Aiedy Di It makes me HAPPY.. But it makes me sad too. I am getting old. I am going die..But I still like a beer buz in the morning..till my last breath..Thank you Sheryl Crow for the 🎶...YOU are a beautiful ..Talented Woman. You helped me clean my house every day..by listening to your albums.. I couldnt stand still..and my house was clean .."THIS AIN'T NO DISCO..THIS AIN'T NO COUNTRY CLUB EITHER..THIS IS LA!"
Sheryl Crow somehow found the happy medium between alternative rock and country, which I never would have thought possible. As someone who pretty much hates all country music other than Johnny Cash, I still love her music.

Hell yeah he had to be high Erica. Yep, real high. I,m high and listening to her now. Not that high!!!
Yeah, I dig it...this is when women singer/songwriters were kicking the "boys club" asses! I wish it were still going on...well, ANY music for that matter...If it weren't for the pirin tablets, i don't think I could make it!

Chrissie Hynde. Blondie. Joan Jett. Bonnie Raitt -- rockin' the blues since the 70s!
Tim O' Flea Tim, no argument from me, brother...Chrissie Hynde one of my faves!

Totally awesome and all you fans!,
Totally Beautiful song
This women’s songs have gotten me through so bad times. She rocks.

Amen 🙏
Golden age of music videos. The 90s still feel like a beautiful dream that we were all forced to wake up from.
I'm glad I was able to witness a Skim of it as a kid
Beautifully said. It feels like it flew right past us. A fleeting glimpse of goodness
1996: Cool song 😎❤️🎤🎵🎸
2020: Still a cool song 😎❤️🎤🎵🎸
Cool song?
This song is a timeless classic. Listening to it January 1, 2024 sounds as good as it did in The 90’s in my 20’s now I’m 50 and it hits differently. Sheryl you a diva 🎉this jam elevated you to another level . Congratulations on you’re induction into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. Bravo 👏🏽👏🏽 excelente mujer .
why I listen, and that's not bad, it makes me happy and energized.. like a cup of strong English Breakfast tea.
Coming from somebody who loves metal, grunge, punk, Eurodance, this has got to be one of my favorite songs
Lips are awful
Hehe..you're in your 40's now. Same age. 90's teens.
I was 13 and I dig the song. Still do
i was 24 you don't know how i felt..... alone
Harrison González-García you totally grasped amd articulated the spirit of the 90s. Makes me sad the world we live in now.
Yes!!
I prefer angst than the popular depression it is now.
Harrison González-García Absolutely, well said!
mr sir Thank you for saying that. I was a teenager in the 90's, and quite frankly, most of the music, like this song, sucked.
If It Makes You Happy masterpiece ❤💚💛😍
"If it makes you happy, it can't be that bad"...sure wish it was that simple!
Imagine being an addict and keep consuming drugs just because Sheryl Crow tolds you it can´t be that bad

This woman can speak to any man's heart, even a psychopath.
True. Back when I got married by mistake on a 6 week bender of bad druggos and good sexo, Ceryris Matthews and Sheryl Crow were the only two voices that could chill that husband out! I shite ye not. (Have got court papers to prove it).
My late fiance loved this song. 24 years later and I smile and look up every time I hear it. Miss you baby...
😢 what happened? 😢
@@annabelles1622 passed from an infection after surgery. She was 25. Miss her everyday.
Edit: sorry for being so nosy 🙈
Thanks for the kind words. We were all devastated, totally unexpected from a routine surgery. It took years for me to move on but I have. It taught me to value each day, you never know when you'll run out of tomorrows. Be well my friend. @annabelles1622
26 years later and I’m still a legend …..
Yep. That guitar sound is gorgeous. You could write a novel based on the ideas that sound conjures up.
Sheryl Crow. One of the few people that get better looking as they get older.
It's the boobs 🎈🎈
the 90s make me happy
Today is Tuesday September 24th 2024 @ 5:37 am EST.... song is still a banger . I remember being a little kid riding in the car and singing this song and not having a damn clue what I'm singing about lol... now I'm 35 listening to it while getting ready for work and understand it very clearly now.... the 90s will always hold a special place in my heart 🥹
My husband started singing this song yesterday and I've been playing it non stop. Forgot how much I love it
She is absolutely gorgeous in this video.
I'll always have a crush on her
Lance Armstrong used to be her partner for a while if I recall.
@@ivanjulian2532 absolutely.
Everything in this video screams peak mid-90s: grungy soft rock, the blurry , intense colors, the weird stop-motion movements, getting really close to the camera, strange still-life group scenes.
WHy you make me feel old?
I just love this comment
Absolutely, just redo a few shots with Sheryl in it and it could either be Alice In Chains or No Doubt. 😁
Thanks 👏so much for the comments and support you’ve showed me towards my modeling carrier ❤️, I'm so grateful and happy to check on you! You can leave me a text on my mail: (sherylcrow1011@gmail.com) and let me know more about you ❤️🇺🇸
I've always loved Grunge growing up so that could be partly why I love this song
1996 gem ❤
I've been long, a long way from here
Put on a poncho, played for mosquitoes
And drank 'til I was thirsty again
We went searching through thrift store jungles
Found Geronimo's rifle, Marilyn's shampoo
And Benny Goodman's corset and pen
Well okay, I made this up
I promised you I'd never give up
If it makes you happy
It can't be that bad
If it makes you happy
Then why the hell are you so sad?
We get down, areal low down
You listen to Coltrane, derail your own train
Well, who hasn't been there before?
I come proud, around the hard way
Bring you comics in bed, scrape the mold off the bread
And serve you French toast again
Well okay, I still get stoned
I'm not the kind of girl you'd take home
If it makes you happy
It can't be that bad
If it makes you happy
Then why the hell are you so sad?
If it makes you happy
It can't be that bad
If it makes you happy
Then why the hell are you so sad?
We've been far
Far away from here
Put on a poncho, played for mosquitoes
And everywhere in between
Well okay, we get along
So what if right now everything's wrong?
If it makes you happy
It can't be that bad
If it makes you happy
Then why the hell are you so sad?
If it makes you happy
It can't be that bad
If it makes you happy
Then why the hell are you so sad?
For some reason while I'm in quarantine this song captures my mood perfectly
Joshua Mark George yep...
Same. Not quite sure why but for some reason
If it makes you happy...
A master piece
Same.
One of the best modern guitar riffs
Love it
This song/music video takes me back to a time I can never get back. This song lives inside my heart, the nostalgia hurts♥️
I'm with you Denise...
I used to play this WHOLE damn albumn in the bathroom while I shaved my eyebrows, put on eyeliner and thought about each song especially "home." It's funny cause back then it didn't seem like I knew what real hurt meant. But I still understood somehow.
💙💙
Still rocking Sheryl and this song in 2022. When time travel goes mainstream, I'm going to live out my days in the 90s.
We should be able to vacation in eras. U were an xtra. Geesh. 🥸
@@nhanikah Oh Man!!! What an excellent suggestion!!!!! I am 64 and ready to go anywhere rock and roll is the rule!

"Why are you so SAD?!?" OMG this song sooo speaks to me. Thank you girl!!!!!!!!!
I miss the 90s. Love Sheryl Crow! Beautiful lady with a beautiful voice!
Saw her in concert a few years ago. One of the best concert experiences I've ever had! And, at 72, I've been to a few in my lifetime!
She is truly an underrated/underappreciated national treasure.
I remember this song! Especially the "poncho" and "mosquitoes" part. Even as a kid I knew this song was different from what Sheryl Crow usually sang. Twenty plus years later, this song still rocks😁😉
I just found this song 💝 hell yeah the 90's the songs you could relate to no matter how old you were
Just stunning! Hard to believe she just turned 61 - what an awesome entertainer.
I’m still obsessed with her Sheryl crow is that mixture of woman and bad ass I LOVE IT
YES YES YES YES
She’s also that awesome mix of country and city 🤠 You should check out her tribute to Tom Petty’s “You Don’t Know How It Feels”, it’s awesome
If I could go back to those days, I would do it in a heartbeat.
Hell yeah 💯
How early 90s is sc? I feel like a kid...
Do what, exactly? oh, drugs?
It’s very sad that this song never got any nomination for a prize. Its fantastic.
This music helps me forget how much my life sucks now
effy zay
Hey, today is the best day of your life, it’s only going to get worse from here.
Don't worry it OBAMA's fault, not ours...Hang in there man things are getting better. WE HAVE TRUMP ♥️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
we all think the now sucks.its when we look back we think it was great .it probably wasn't as great as we remember. look forward living in the past will eat away at you.

I grew up to my mom blasting this song in the car. I was 7 years old and me and my brother would scream sing along with her. This song brings back a lot of good memories:)

But "if it makes me happy," why should I care!?
Me too, funny I used too skip by this song when it came on,now it makes me happy
ikr i just love it maybe cuz it was released in a time when music used real instruments
Yesterday we went to the Phil Collins concert and saw Sheryl Crow live, just amazing! Thanks Sheryl Crow!

Sheryl Crow. One of the few people that get better looking as they get older.
Still stands up in 2018
Aiedy Di yessss I'm belting this at midnight haha

Sheryl Crow somehow found the happy medium between alternative rock and country, which I never would have thought possible. As someone who pretty much hates all country music other than Johnny Cash, I still love her music.
Try neil young first at least
Sturgil Simpson
It's pop/rock at the end of the day
Try some Blue Rodeo
There’s not a single element of country in this song . This is pop rock 100%
