I saw the Wallflowers live on Letterman in 1998. We sat in the front row end seats on the right (as you look at the stage) where the cue card presenter stood. Very cool.
Great song. That keys player just laid so much feeling on top it had me bawling. Great song and great job. Thanks Letterman for all the great memories.
Sorry to say he surpasses Bob Dylan and in a much different way, no offense to Bob, but it is so contemporary so original and a voice to make it its own!
Sometimes love looks like distance Unless you know that the purest affection and agape love wouldnt make your friends feel worse Or make you seem like you're not really there But wish that you could somehow bless and heal, and just have fun Remember me with forgiveness when you breathe quiet prayer. ❤️✌️& blessings.
Wait is that bob dylans kid? I had no clue! When I was watching him play I thought “man he looks like Dylan did in the 70s” haha. Learn something knew everyday!
This is a truly great song from a truly great album. The drums on the original are inspiring to me with the "ghost notes" and how they are played with so well in an understated way with deep groove and style....this drumming is the opposite with double time on the high hat..big mistake. The guy on the slide guitar is super cool and would love to hear more of his stuff if anyone can tell me who he is!! - peace out
And the Hammond is played like a third vocalist! There is no keyboard instrument that can give the level of expression possible with a Hammond + Leslie speaker.
I like this version, on letterman a lot more. ruclips.net/video/PzXzTDSj_zE/видео.html Got to agree about the drummer. Just don’t dig his groove and would like to see more dynamics, dropping down for the verses. No doubt he is massively talented, but I enjoy the original drummer more. Thing is, often when you are on stage, you are tied to whatever monitor mix you are getting. It can be frustrating.
Does anyone know the year of this recording? I was at a taping of the Letterman show- ‘98 or ‘99 featuring the Wallflowers. He sang this song and One Headlight. If that’s right this is nearly 20 years ago. We sat front row off to our right where the cue card guy stood-he gave us one at the end of the show. They taped two shows together and for some reason taped the guests out of order, so Letterman was doing fill-ins, saying clips like “our next guest is” after the guest was gone.
One of the greatest stories ever told in a song.
Most people don't know the story. I'd be surprised if you did as well.
This is hands down the best version of this song.
One of my Top 10 songs of all time. It was my theme song for years when it first came out.
beautiful Hammond

Согласен, люблю эту группу. Неожиданно увидеть русского человека в коментариях под их песнями.
En vercion vallenato. Valla!
Can we get more ads in before the video begins... That's my favorite part!
He sounds even more like his dad here.
yep
With this song he ripped a page right out of his dad's play book...a la Positively 4th Street. But he's made excellent use of it.
