Is a dolphin's fin the same as a human fingerprint?

Dolphins abound in the waters of East Africa’s coastline. However, they are endangered from threats such as entanglement in fishing gear, collision with ships, and ingestion of marine debris such as plastic. Dolphins around the world are endangered and threatened with extinction due to human activity and climate change, so protecting them in Kenya is important.
In the Watamu Marine National Park in Kenya, Michael Mwang’ombe, with the Watamu Marine Association, monitors dolphins by taking photos of their fins, which identify individual dolphins like our fingerprints. He also discusses how tourism such as dolphin watching and whale watching can help protect dolphins and other marine mammals by providing a source of income and a livelihood for local Kenyan communities, replacing livelihoods that may otherwise bring harm to these incredible animals.
