Been waiting for a video like this since forever! As a filmmaking student, I find it quite sad how educational resources on film and media in general have been gradually stripped of any kind of theoretical background or intellectual rigor in pursuit of commerciality or ease of consumption. We as a society seem to have forgotten that learning is an effortful and challenging activity. Thank you for the excellent recommendations, this is exactly what I needed. I would also recommend Herbert Marcuse's The Aesthetic Dimension.
Hey Julian I'm glad you've appreciated the video and thanks so much for the recommendation, from Marcuse I read only the "One-Dimensional Man" but I've been interested in his work ever since. I will definitely get my hands on "The Aesthetic Dimension" so cheers!
Hey Ram, thanks for the appreciation. I must say that unfortunately, my breadth of reading hasn't reached too deep into Psychology yet, although I have acquired several books from Jung and Freud which I intend to get into at some point later. However, I must say that Dostoevsky's novels have some of the most memorable and most richly textured characters I've ever seen from a psychological standpoint, so I would highly recommend you to give it a try if you're not familiar with the Russian master's work yet. Cheers!
Jung is a bit esoteric for practical use. Reading the greats of literature like Dostoevsky or Shakespeare and studying Freud and later developments in Psychoanalysis is what most great filmmakers have done

Thanks for this great video! Definitely adding some of these to my list (the ones I’m not adding are already there).
