will my 980ti fit in there? and is there a 600w psu small enough to fit in there and now blow up? I really like the form factor but maybe I should stick with the node 202 and corsairs new sf600 PSU.
cant EDIT: just saw your pico psu vid. nope. what if I used two??? an HDplex for GPU and a pico for everything else? I've seen two other you-tubers hack-job two full size PSUs.
Got the case, really great! Really wish it had the sandblasted top finish like yours. Josh stopped offering it at the moment. Had no idea how expensive the process was.
YOU NEED MORE SUBSCRIBERS!! First i tought you would've had more than 100k but only 1k? Your videos are too good to your level (not in a bad way) Keep it up!
+Danny Mcmonagle Due to the open nature of the case, I found that the noise level depends almost entirely on the components you put inside. My configuration with the Noctua LN9i and GTX 960 is really quiet. You can also reduce the noise level even more by using 120mm fan to cool the GPU.
Really good work on this video. I like it when a review includes the build and commentary on living with the case. Subscribed! I really think you deserve many more subscribers.
for the price, it should come with necessities like a power button, ribbon cable, and Rubber feet instead of being an additional $50+ on top of it's already exuberant $150 price-point and the ADDITIONAL $150 for a custom paint job.
It's expensive cause the guy who created the case is having them produced in small to medium batches from a manufacturer. He doesn't get special huge batch discounts. So you have to pay for it. Not much can be done about it unless his buisness takes off. You might as well look at it as a custom, special case built just for you.
Here's the thing. They are already a fully fledged custom case company. The guy making the s4 is still starting out. Now, if they can make those cases for him with the specs he uses for 100$ a piece, you should let the guy from NFC know so he could look in to a cheaper manufacturer.
Nephrium Gaming456 here is the thing. I'm not going to. A) He contracts his manufacturing out to Lian Li and their nicest cases (barring the Desks and that ship-case) aren't nearly that much. and B) $150 for a quick hydro dipping means he doesn't care about balancing profit and price, Taking both A and B into account, whatever he saves will very likely go straight into his profit anyway, so screw him. If you really want him to know, tell him yourself, you'll only be doing him a service.
Not to forget some mesh for dustfiltering since this is all open atleast on the side where the cpu and gpu intake air comes but i guess it's easy to fix yourself with some tape/glue and a bit of mesh.
Yes I found this case quite a while ago and finally some youtuber is making a video on it! Not the biggest RUclipsr but maybe this will bring more customers to the case maker. Hes a cool guy.
+UnrealVideoDuke Replying to my own post.... You can buy the PCI-E X16 riser as an add-on... Soo much FAIL... Can't order everything you need as a "KIT". Pico PSU, 12V Power Brick and Power Button sourced elsewhere... Just as good as getting shat on. "Tek Everything Not Included".
I think that's the best part about a case like this. For instance I would pick a different color vandal switch. An HDplex PSU with my own custom cables. A higher watt (330) power brick. And I'm waiting for a small gpu with pascal.
The riser can be purchased with the case, or you can use a completely different one. It is up to you... Also I agree with Jungle. I'm glad you can pick your own power button and match whatever color scheme you choose. This case offers quite a bit of build flexibility in a tiny package. If you want a boring off the shelf system, then the S4 Mini obviously is not for you. Go get a Node 202 or something along those lines.
That's fine if it doesn't come with a power button, but here is my question. Is the button some sort of standardized size? How do I know if the button I get will fit? Thanks
I am SO SORRY if I missed your email. I try my best not to, but sometimes it happens >.< I don't see one that I missed, can you resend it? I can add you to the list based on the date you emailed me. I have to work a normal job to save the money up to do these cases, and I haven't been able to keep up with demand. The good news is that I am getting a big order in soon so if you want one I want to get you on the list asap! Peace!
Nice video man. I hope we will see either some GTX 1070 or 1080 mini versions coming out this fall, this paired with a Broadwell-E or even a 6700K would be an amazing system.
A brother doing the dam thing! Im proud!! Also Thanks, Ive been trying to use the Logic itx case and its just too hot with no vents or extra space! Im getting the S4 min because YOU SAID it is the best! Im hitting the sub button my Brother! Thank you and keep up the good work!
The most important aspect of mini itx gaming builds is cooling. Once upon a time it was very easy to know if your system was running too hot, because you would have instability errors. These days hardware thermally throttles down so you might never realise that your cooling is not sufficient and your hardware will just under perform. You need to test the cooling in these reviews to show which cases offer the best performance in this category.
can you do a video on the PSU setup. that is the part i'm interested in most. and also succinctly explain to me the way you do a Pico psu in addition to the laptop PSU. i am very curious. thank you
You mentioned that the construction of the case is pretty rock solid. Do you think it's strong enough to hold a 17 lb ultrawide monitor with no bending or warping? Thanks for the review!
The upside to cases like the Node 202 or Silverstone ML08 is that the SFX power supply is IN the case, and it gives you more length for a longer/larger GPU. Yes, it makes your case a couple inches larger than an Xbone, but it's the same thickness still.
While I don't disagree with you, those cases are significantly larger and made of plastic. The S4 is really built for very specific applications and desires.
Indeed, except you should know that the ML08 is made out of (albeit not as nice of) metal as well. It's also about 1 inch wider (3.5in), 2 inches longer (15inches), and definitely 6 or so inches deeper. Definitely a bigger case, but I can still fit it in a bag pretty nicely for LAN parties and it only costs $80. :) It's definitely a pick your poison kind of situation. Some people want more power (bigger PSU) and full sized GPUs, some people want as physically small as they can get! Cheers
I have seen the FTZ01, It's a little ugly imo. I may pick one up to check it out though. It seems like it might be the kind of case that looks better in person.
Tek Everything it is definitely flat and doesn't really have anything going but I think that is because it is designed to blend and match other appliances under your tv rather than standout as a gaming rig. idk if this is common among mini itx cases but my favorite feature of my silver ftz01 is that the power led is slightly covered by the lip on the front of the case making it so I can't see the led from the couch and so the led doesn't distract me from the TV especially when the lights are off.
Jay, great vid! Like your professional style!! Also agree with you using a small case. Looks like this case it sold out on the site. Would like to see a small powerful system in the future utilizing Zen Summit Ridge APU! Won't need a graphics card with new APU so it could even be smaller!
Hard to tell the size. Can you cram a 1070 mini into it? Also, any mini ITX boards that support 4-channel DDR4 (64GB+ RAM)? I would love to be able to build a desktop that fits in a laptop bag that I can use with a portable HDMI display.
Yes the case can fit a 1070 mini with some tweaks. I am unaware of any mITX consumer boards that support 4 channel DDR4. There may be some server boards that do. like this --> www.anandtech.com/show/9221/asrock-rack-announces-epc612d4i Some of the new USB C portable displays might work out well with that sort of config. I was planning on picking two up and creating a beastly portable workstation/gaming rig.
Tek Everything nice. Might have to check it out. I am a gamer, but I do vfx and often have to bring my own box. I currently work on an aorus x7 laptop. Which is great. But if I could build on desktop hardware with portability that would be killer!
The only thing I'd really like to see on this case is dust filters over all those vents. Wouldn't it make sense? Since the case is so modular, they could even glue them in place and you just take the panels off and rinse them.
Oh and because I'm completely serious about copying this.. I have a few cable questions..Did the vandal switch come with that cable you have on it, or did you have to buy that separately? AND, last question, if I'm running two SSDs, do I have to buy any additional cables because the pico PSU didn't come with it? This would be my first ever PC build so I just want to make sure I order everything in one shot
+JohnVincente15 The vandal switch does not come with the case, I just added the link to the description. There are also quite a few additional design and color options if you search on amazon As for the Pico. I purchased an additional peripheral cable for $4 from 'mini-box.com'. You may or may not need this depending on what components you choose to run. What are your system specs?
+Tek Everything Thanks for the reply, but after doing some more research and browsing yesterday, I decided that I want the Corsair 250d. I love the NFC S4 Mini, I've never seen a console killer case as nice, and as space efficient as it, BUT I did have a few reservations with it. 1. I would have to buy a separate power button and wire & solder it...which I have no experience in doing. 2. I also decided that I want a GTX 970 4G, and MSI recommends at least a 500w power supply for it, which the S4 mini does not have room for. 3. I wanted ample room for a simple cpu water cooling loop, like the corsair h100i v2 (which the 250d perfectly accommodates). Also, a minor thing that bothers me about the S4 mini is that the vents are so large with no dust filters. I guess this could be fixed by buying magnetic dust filters, but the 250d has dust filters on all of its intakes..and the case is half the price. Anyways, here's my wish list that I put together on Newegg last night if you're interested in seeing what I decided on ( secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=22045614 ) It comes to $1200 after rebates
+JohnVincente15 You can get a wired power button here: www.performance-pcs.com/vandal-resistant-switches-16mm You can also comfortably run a 970 in the S4 by using an HDPlex psu instead of a Pico. The only real issue is liquid cooling. If you want liquid cooling then yes you will have to go with a larger case. I took a peek at your build. Some quick notes: 1. You will need a Z170 board if you want to overclock your that CPU 2. I would take advantage of that M.2 port and get either a 950 pro, or 850 evo drive if you want to save some money.
+Tek Everything Awesome thanks for the suggestions! I think I am going to go the route of water cooling my cpu, only because I want lower temps while having less noise (the computer I have now is like a jet engine). Also, I really like how easy maintenance is with the 250d. As for the motherboard, I don't think I'll be doing any overclocking so I think I'll stick with the one I have, stock speeds are more than adequate for my needs. And thanks especially for the M.2 recommendation, I totally forgot the board even had that slot so I think I'll be picking up one of those instead; I am only using it to install the OS on of course. Also, since you got me thinking about where I can save money, I remembered that I had a perfectly working optical drive in an old computer of mine and that my 1 TB Seagate external hard drive can be used as an internal drive too. So in total, you helped me save about $100..Thanks for the help!
How well does a Pico PSU deal with overclocking? I'm building a rig with a g3258 and am planning on overclocking it with the Pico 160, while running a 750ti.
+Arkratos It handles overclocking just fine, as long as you don't exceed the voltage of your brick and Ppico. That is a 53W CPU, with a 60W GPU. if you get the Pico 160-XT and 192W Power Brick, you will be well under the limit. I have run much more power hungry set ups then this.
Wattage-wise, I agree, it seems fine. I'm more worried about voltage stability. It actually came in today, so I'll play with it this weekend. Thanks for the feedback!
+Arkratos While i have not set up a meter to do any official tests, I have had zero issues with the Picos on a wide variety of systems. They are super efficient and really well made. You should be fine.
TheTechnoEcho but it’s finally starting to be on shipment from the creator / mass production company. I wish for it to make the list one day since it would definitely sell
Athasin agree, but disagree, very minimal piece and can be had for super cheap. I wish I now had a range of colors with my power switch, like some sort of rgb feature, since the stock one isn’t cutting it for me.
@@MexiChriS Don't get me wrong, I don't think the power button should be un-modifiable. I just think that it'll have a much better chance of getting on PCpartpicker if it has a power button pre-packaged with it. Like, think of whenever you pick a CPU that doesn't have a cooler, you get a red flag warning say this CPU needs a cooler, and then you have the CPU cooler section readily available with suggestions. This case would need a similar warning for the power button but don't have a power button section (I don't even think they have power-buttons listed as accessories). So right away putting this case in the PCpartpicker system would result in compatibility errors that can't be fixed under the current site (and I doubt they'd change their site layout just for one case). However, the compatibility error could easily be avoided by simply adding a power button in the box (even if not installed).
+iksretep I will be doing a completely new build soon, and will make sure to include that stuff in that video. I will say that so far I have been extremely pleased with the temps and noise level
nice review, i'm looking forward to have this nfc case..planning to use an 160xt pico psu but will the 4 pin power cable is long enough to reach the dc jack without stretching? how long is it? or do i need an p4 power cable extension used in motherboards? thanks
I really want this case but how can i get a 500w psu in it? I'm searching for an answer but it looks like 300w is the biggest you can get inside of it. Maybe I can get away with a little under 500w but I dont think 300w is going to cut it for what i'm trying to build. I want to run a ASUS b105i mother board (with Aura RGB LEDs), 16gb corsair vengeance ram (the one's with the pulsating white LEDs) and an ASUS strix 1080 gpu (also featuring RGB LED effects). A 120gb ssd via the M.2 port on the back of the mother board and an additional 960gb 2.5" ssd. I think all those LED lights would look awesome doing all kinds of colors and pulsating out of the top and bottom holes of this case.
There is no 1080 that will fit into this case at this point. The only way you could get a stable 500W would be to use dual PSU's... like say an HDPlex 250 and an Pico 160xt. You would need dual power bricks however. That should work but I wouldn't recommend it.
ah like on the zotac magnus which also uses two power supplies. The Magnus is a really cool idea but I'm not into the lack of customization and ability to upgrade or replace parts if something breaks down (even if just one tiny thing were to break after warranty the whole thing would be trash). That Dan Case looks really sweet and could fit a 1080 and a decent psu, but it's not going to be released for a bit. I'm really on the fence between wanting something super compact yet also wanting something with water cooling options and a sweet open view port of all the goodies inside. I could totally lose the desire for a view port and trade it in for the ability to put it in a backpack (man that would be sweet) but then the lack of water cooling and such a tight space makes me worry about running too hot. Maybe if i eventually get my hands on a dan case i can just put a room fan on on it for peace of mind.
Yep, that is always the debate with small form factor systems. Balancing size and performance can be tough. The Dan case does a great job in that respect. Check out the COUGAR QBX Mini on newegg. It is similar to the Dan case, but much cheaper and available.
Hey J--wondering if you can answer a question for me since you're a Ryzen user as well as an S4 Mini owner... Think the AMD Wraith cooler from a Ryzen 7 1700 would fit in that final build?
I know there is a 500w pico psu (X7-ATX-500). But do you know how to power it with a single power brick? Great channel, i like small mini itx silent builds (i have a HDPlex H1.S totally fanless with an AMD A10-7800 and a CM Elite 110 with an AMD R9 Nano for gaming :P
Omg. A channel that pushes the limits of small form factor PC's?! Dude...HECK YES! This case is going on my wishlist. Now, if only there were a GTX 1070 itx size (fingers crossed).
Yes! This the 1070 I am looking for. Ah! Then there is AMD's 480 (short PCB, waterblock route). Such a smashing value. But no CUDA. Hurg! I need the CUDA...
only thing i would have added would be some air filter meshes onto where the vents are. dust could become a real problem over time with that thing espeially with unfiltered vents. easy fix if you go with a diy approach. im sure you could find a decent filter mesh for cheap and some sort of heat resistant adhesive to glue it mesh filter in place over the vents.
Do you experienced any cooling issues gaming in this case? I'm planning on building a gaming-silent-portable pc on my next build, and NFC S4 mini piqued my interest.
Components will definitely run a little warmer than in a full sized case. For gaming the CPU temps are fine... GPU's can run warm depending on you configuration. Check out this build I did with benchmarks. ruclips.net/video/lQtDVoFE-sc/видео.html
Hey not sure if I missed something but how do you actually power this? Is it some sort of insert that has all the usual cables coming from it and an external power brick? Does it come with all that or does that have to be bought separately like you had to with the power button?
+Ryan Grehan You will need either a Pico PSU or an HDPlex 250. I made a video on the Pico PSU used in this video, you can see it here: ruclips.net/video/FnHlqWUHLAI/видео.html
160-200W. Power draw is generally dramatically over estimated. This system was really just built to show fitment as this was a case review, not a component review. While you can run a 960 off of a Pico 160xt, I wouldn't recommend it.
Cool build! I'm not to familiar with Pico power supplies, would I be able to power my System? I have an i5-4670k, 8gb 1600 DDR3 ram, and an AMD R9-270-x 4GB edition.
that is a very Gorgeous case, after building a massive tower pc, i'm sold that my next one will be a mini itx, hopefully AMD's Zen Apu's (with HBM) are good so could possibly use that gpu bay for a AIO.
+Lord Xantosh Zen should offer a dramatic improvement when it comes to integrated graphics. If it could replace mid tier GPU's say in the GTX 960 range then I could definitely see a configuration like that working out.
The LZ7 is much easier to build in, and can take larger coolers. The S4M is better looking, and much more compact. It depends on what you are looking for.
Wow, great build Jay. Just wondering, what do the temps look like during normal and heavy usage? Also, how is the airflow and noise? Inspiring me to make a similar build. Thanks!
Due to the vented design, I found the temps stayed comfrotably low. In the test system I ran a i7-4790s and GTX 960. The CPU idled around 40C with peaks around 72C. The GPU never went over 70C. You can get even better cooling performance if you take advantage of the 120mm fan mounts. Good luck with the build!
Noise levels will be dictated by your component selection. There isn't much keep sound from escaping. My test system was quiet... but if you install something like a 6700K, you will need to ramp up the fan to a level that would definitely be audible. Dust hasn't really been an issue. Just hit the inside with some canned air every month or so. If you were really worried, you could install dust filters
+Sentinel Polaris It screws into the hole on the back right of the case. Check out the full assembly vid in this link if you want to see exactly how it connects. ruclips.net/video/X-NABMhIl4Q/видео.html
This is an awesome channel. This should have 2 million subs, not 2K. One request: Can you please try fitting an HD PLEX 250W and PFM4414VB6M24D0C00 internal power supply inside an S4 mini to make a kick ass system without any external power brick ? Many thanks in advance.
excellent video jay! really helpful, could you make a new one explaining how to install the pico psu and the hdplex and similars ? it could be awesome and extremely helpful. ill subscribe!
What about other, higher wattage, DC-DC PSU's? I have an i5-6600K and a GTX 970 and the recommended PSU wattage is 500W. How are you able to run such low wattages?
Tek Everything Would I be able to build using the HDPlex 250 without having to change any voltages in the BIOS? I don't really have any experience with changing voltages on rails. Also, if the HDPlex 250 overloads, does it have a failsafe to shutdown the PC?
This build was just set up to show fitment. You could power a 960 with the Pico 160xt if you chose a low TDP CPU... but it may not be stable under load. You should really go with an HDPlex 250 for any system at or around 200w
Where does one find a HDPlex 250 or similar that's not half the value of the case, on top of all the other expensive necessities required to even consider this case? I'd love to have it, but wish it was a better competitor with prices in the ITX branch.
+John Tantay There are a so many 34" Ultrawide models now. At the time there weren't this many options. I still think it is a great monitor. I will personally be waiting until the 40" Ultrawides come out later this year before upgrading.
i've been struggling between getting a laptop and desktop because i'm moving too often. this is really amazing and byfar the coolest desktop ive ever seen. it makes me seriously reconsiders the option of building desktop now. How much does it cost u in total to finish this system?
Depending on the finish you choose, you can get the case with pcie adapter and power button for under $200. After that it depends entirely on what components you select. I have had most of these components for a while, so I am not sure what it would cost to build this exact system.
It's a looker for sure, but at that price and not even including a power button or proper PSU support, I really feel like the NCASE M1 or Silverstone RVZ02 do what it's trying to do better for small mid-tier gaming rig. Good review though!
The M1 is a fantastic case, but its almost triple the volume of the S4 (12.6L - 4.3L). The RVZ02, is also 12 L. Its hard to judge exactly how small the S4 is without seeing it in person.
+Tek Everything good video! I hope you kinda put it side by side with normal objects though ex soda can, normal case, ps4 etc to get a feel of the size
+Brian Walsh II The 160XT can handle peak loads of 200W. The system in the video was more to show fitment then anything. If you were going to run this set up full time you would either need dual Pico's or an HDPlex 250.
Tek Everything k thanks, sombody should make an enclosure für atx or sfx psus to but them unter de table or somethink like this and route a cable to this type of litte cases, or an dc-jack to atx/cpu/PCIe-adapter for the inside
+Benjamin Le Yes that would work, but long term I would opt for an HDPlex. This is the thread he is referencing - smallformfactor.net/forum/threads/simple-dual-pico-psu-set-up.552/#post-9520
very good reviews and videos ! thank you ! regarding the s4 mini case, why to pay so much money on a metal when you can use them to buy much powerful tech .. ? strange
Amazonfly surprises by the production quality of the vidéo. Google suggested me this video. I bust bought an intel skull vais it s even smaller and powerfull. Wherr isbthe psilu ? You didn t showed it ! It deelsblike it s a pico psu like on some other smalls factor systems
Great size, though it's unfortunate how the 2.5 inch drives block airflow to the cpu fan. It's even more unfortunate that the fan will be blowing the hot air coming from the 2.5 inch drives onto the cpu heatsink. Also too bad it doesn't have any usb ports on the front or audio. Also no dust filter for the huge vented sides? Yeah that thing is going to be a dust bin with 4 months, or at least it will be in this mancave I call a bedroom.
The drives sit over the GPU, not the CPU so airflow isn't effected. I haven't had any issues with dust so far, you could just add a cheap dust filter if you really needed one.
Ah, I didn't know that. I thought the position of the slider with the 2 SSD's above the CPU was it's mounting spot. In hindsight kinda obvious it wasn't :p. Thanks for the heads up ^^.
it is my mission to make a sfx pc in a 3.2x11.9x7.2 inch case. ive gotten close a few times with the parts but i will be incorperating a optical cd drive in it as well... can anyone guess what has those dimensions?
Why do you need an internal optical cd drive? It just takes up room, you don't need it but if you really did need it then you could buy an external one.
The RAM is on the motherboard, it might be hard to see because it is all black. I used a Pico PSU with this build. The case was designed for use with a Pico PSU or an HDPlex 250. I made a video on Pico PSU's if you want to learn a little more about them.
The only 1070 mini currently on the market is a little too tall to fit. So the answer is no for now. You could run a 1070 system with an HDPlex 250 and Dell 330W power brick
You can use a Pico or HD-Plex PSU. I didn't want to confuse anyone. I made a video on the Pico, you can check it out here: ruclips.net/video/FnHlqWUHLAI/видео.html
The S3 is a bit smaller I believe, and the GPU faces upward. It uses a longer ribbon cable that passes behind the GPU. Josh over at the 'Not From Concentrate' youtube channel could answer that question better than me.
Tek Everything Awesome that was a helpful video! so their website shows the s4 mini a full build includes a Intel Core i7-6700 (65w) / AMD R9 380 ITX 4GB / Gigabyte Z170 Mini / Patriot Memory 16GB DDR4 / Samsung EVO Pro 500GB So that little power supply can run all that?
+IgotGreens101 An R9 380 would probably need and HDPlex 250. Which is a slightly bigger internal power supply with an external brick. the Pico 160XT can power systems up to 200W.
+Bentz This build has a i7-4790s, 16GB RAM, and GTX 960, with dual pico PSU's. You can definitely put a 970 in here. You will need an HD-Plex along with a one of the more powerful power bricks. The 330W dell/alienware model seems to work well. The Asus GTX 970 mini (amzn.to/1pPHj3A) should fit perfectly with no modification. You can also check out the forum thread in the link below to see how a card longer than 8" was fit into the case. smallformfactor.net/forum/threads/s4-25.390/
That is complicated. I would not recommend it, but it does work. Check out the thread in the link below for details. smallformfactor.net/forum/threads/simple-dual-pico-psu-set-up.552/#post-9520
this was the video, that introduced me to and inspired me to buy my S4M-C! Thanks Jay!
Wow I can't believe you only have 1.2k subs! :O You have some very high quality content! Love the mini itx builds btw..lol I might just copy this one
+JohnVincente15 Thanks! Glad you enjoy the content.
+SalvadorSlX7 Hopefully yes. I will try and take a look at as many next gen compact cards as possible
will my 980ti fit in there? and is there a 600w psu small enough to fit in there and now blow up?
I really like the form factor but maybe I should stick with the node 202 and corsairs new sf600 PSU.
cant EDIT: just saw your pico psu vid. nope. what if I used two??? an HDplex for GPU and a pico for everything else? I've seen two other you-tubers hack-job two full size PSUs.
There is no compact 980ti so no. The 970 and R9 Nano are the most power cards the can fit into this case.
Got the case, really great! Really wish it had the sandblasted top finish like yours. Josh stopped offering it at the moment. Had no idea how expensive the process was.
saw the quality and instantly subbed, great work man
Appreciate it Bro
YOU NEED MORE SUBSCRIBERS!!
First i tought you would've had more than 100k but only 1k?
Your videos are too good to your level (not in a bad way)
Keep it up!
+TheJelly132 Without a viral video, it just takes a while. The channels growth has been accelerating though, so that's good
Love the videos. You picking unique products you don't see on other review channels. Plus the production is flawless, love it.
+Danny Mcmonagle Thanks man, I really appreciate the feedback. I have a S4 Mini Vs. MC600 video coming out on friday!
+Tek Everything look forward to it.
quick question, what was the noise like from this case, considering it for a build.
+Danny Mcmonagle Due to the open nature of the case, I found that the noise level depends almost entirely on the components you put inside. My configuration with the Noctua LN9i and GTX 960 is really quiet. You can also reduce the noise level even more by using 120mm fan to cool the GPU.
Love these build and review videos, very professional presentation, keep it up.
Really good work on this video. I like it when a review includes the build and commentary on living with the case. Subscribed! I really think you deserve many more subscribers.
Hey, thanks Arnold, I appreciate the feedback.
Concise info with clean production quality.
Good stuff, Jay! Subscribed!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Check out my most recent build for an updated look at the case.
Great video, great quality, and I like your narration style. Straight forward and honest, not annoying or anything bad like that.
Hey, thanks
A lot more practical/down to earth than other tech channel approaches, thank you
Thanks, glad you liked it. I have done a few builds in this case since then. You can see my most recent here: ruclips.net/video/lQtDVoFE-sc/видео.html
for the price, it should come with necessities like a power button, ribbon cable, and Rubber feet instead of being an additional $50+ on top of it's already exuberant $150 price-point and the ADDITIONAL $150 for a custom paint job.
It's expensive cause the guy who created the case is having them produced in small to medium batches from a manufacturer. He doesn't get special huge batch discounts. So you have to pay for it. Not much can be done about it unless his buisness takes off. You might as well look at it as a custom, special case built just for you.
Nephrium Gaming456 I've talked to custom case manufacturer ProtoCase, and they said they could make the same chassis for less than $100
Here's the thing.
Not to forget some mesh for dustfiltering since this is all open atleast on the side where the cpu and gpu intake air comes but i guess it's easy to fix yourself with some tape/glue and a bit of mesh.
just a little confused how would a power supply that small power all that stuff in there but we got 160 Watts. just curious and wanting to learn more
Yes I found this case quite a while ago and finally some youtuber is making a video on it! Not the biggest RUclipsr but maybe this will bring more customers to the case maker. Hes a cool guy.
Subscribed! your sir are on to something with all these mini itx builds. All other tech channels don't give the proper attention to mini itx systems.
Thanks bro, I appreciate it
dude your content is on lock man keep it up
+matt pearson Thanks, much appreciated
This is a super rare find. Keep up the good work! and please bring more stuff like this :)
shit name,
you put NFC S4 mini
and all you get is samsung s4 mini with nfc.
try googling "NFC S4 mini" with the quotes and that should look for those words in that order.
HEY, it was MY name first! Samsung can change THEIR name! xD But seriously I agree...worst name ever. >.
Same I keep getting samsung mobiles when trying to google for a review
+Not From Concentrate Maybe change the S-series to like, I dunno, X or something lol.
yea, the creators of this case forgot to hire someone who knows about Search Engine Optimization
Sooo... You need the Pico-PSU, Power Switch and Riser Cable bought seperately?
Thanks
Where's PSU gone? Amazing.
if it was literally ever in stock or at least if they answered availability emails like they say to send. that be cool
Peace!
what power brick did you end up using with your pico psu?
NM i see it in the description :D
No dust filters? Those holes are huge.
No filters, but I haven't had any issues with dust at all.
Nice video man.
I hope we will see either some GTX 1070 or 1080 mini versions coming out this fall, this paired with a Broadwell-E or even a 6700K would be an amazing system.
Agreed!... As soon as a 1070 Mini is released I will be throwing one in here
Tek Everything Gigabyte has made 1070 mini now =) www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5923#kf
It is the best ultra compact case for sure. Check out the newer S4 Mini Skyreach, its about the same size but has even more features.
Great quality on the vids. Definitely deserve more subs.
I'm wondering how do you handle a gtx 960 with a 192W PSU? Because total consumption of a PC with gtx 960 is around 250-300W depends on other parts...
I agree 100%
can you do a video on the PSU setup. that is the part i'm interested in most. and also succinctly explain to me the way you do a Pico psu in addition to the laptop PSU. i am very curious. thank you
I made a Pico Video already. tekeverything.com/what-is-a-pico-psu/
I have to share this video. Never thought of liking small builds before I got a Gigabyte gtx950 mini-ítx for my mid-tower.
P.S.:
Sub
You mentioned that the construction of the case is pretty rock solid. Do you think it's strong enough to hold a 17 lb ultrawide monitor with no bending or warping?
Thanks for the review!
If I had to guess I would say yes. I would be more worried about blocking the air vents then warping the case in any way.
try to do water cooling with this case please
It's definitely a pick your poison kind of situation. Some people want more power (bigger PSU) and full sized GPUs, some people want as physically small as they can get!
Cheers
Tek Everything if you want premium build quality, full GPU compatibility and a small form factor you should check out the Silverstone ftz 01
Excellent review Jay... Well done.
Jay, great vid! Like your professional style!! Also agree with you using a small case. Looks like this case it sold out on the site. Would like to see a small powerful system in the future utilizing Zen Summit Ridge APU!
Won't need a graphics card with new APU so it could even be smaller!
That is a great idea, you could throw an AIO in the GPU slot as well.
There may be some server boards that do. like this --> www.anandtech.com/show/9221/asrock-rack-announces-epc612d4i
Some of the new USB C portable displays might work out well with that sort of config.
Can you make a video on your pico psus and powerbricks? :)
The only thing I'd really like to see on this case is dust filters over all those vents. Wouldn't it make sense? Since the case is so modular, they could even glue them in place and you just take the panels off and rinse them.
+maxTV Yes that would be a really simple addition. I may try it and see how it impacts airflow
There are also quite a few additional design and color options if you search on amazon
As for the Pico.
Anyways, here's my wish list that I put together on Newegg last night if you're interested in seeing what I decided on
( secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=22045614 ) It comes to $1200 after rebates
+JohnVincente15 You can get a wired power button here: www.performance-pcs.com/vandal-resistant-switches-16mm
You can also comfortably run a 970 in the S4 by using an HDPlex psu instead of a Pico.
The only real issue is liquid cooling. If you want liquid cooling then yes you will have to go with a larger case.
I took a peek at your build. Some quick notes:
1. You will need a Z170 board if you want to overclock your that CPU
You should be fine.
feels bad when this case isnt on pcpartpicker
2 years later, and it still isn't.
TheTechnoEcho but it’s finally starting to be on shipment from the creator / mass production company. I wish for it to make the list one day since it would definitely sell
Needs to actually come pre-packaged with a power button first.
Athasin agree, but disagree, very minimal piece and can be had for super cheap. I wish I now had a range of colors with my power switch, like some sort of rgb feature, since the stock one isn’t cutting it for me.
@@MexiChriS
Don't get me wrong, I don't think the power button should be un-modifiable.
The switches are actually called anti-vandal switches or vandal resistant switches, often used in public kiosks, elevators, etc.
Great video, since you mention a gaming rig here could you add some temps, noise levels under load?
+Anderson Tran No the Wraith cooler won't fit, it's too tall
don't you need external power brick for this case?
didn't see you show that anywhere, or did I miss something?
Yes, you need an external power brick.
I don't understand where is the power supply? outside? like a laptop charger?
+Rafael Theni Check this out. It will help. ruclips.net/video/FnHlqWUHLAI/видео.html
Subscribed! Love the quality and presentation of your videos! Keep it up, man! :)
Thanks, I appreciate the love!
You're most welcome!
Now, if only there were a GTX 1070 itx size (fingers crossed).
videocardz.com/61743/gigabyte-announces-geforce-gtx-1070-mini-itx-oc
Yes! This the 1070 I am looking for. Ah! Then there is AMD's 480 (short PCB, waterblock route). Such a smashing value. But no CUDA. Hurg! I need the CUDA...
Thanks Dante!
Yup, the 1070 mini is my next purchase.
Will the pico psu be enough to power it?
only thing i would have added would be some air filter meshes onto where the vents are. dust could become a real problem over time with that thing espeially with unfiltered vents. easy fix if you go with a diy approach. im sure you could find a decent filter mesh for cheap and some sort of heat resistant adhesive to glue it mesh filter in place over the vents.
+companyoflosers Yea, that would be a pretty simple addition. I may test it out to see how it effects airflow
subscribed, this and the video about the QUADRo k1200 hooked me up!
+MrOgeidAzip1 Nice! Glad I could help
Cheers for the reply mate.
I just discovered your channel. You are awesome. I look forward to more.
+Black Phillip Thanks man
Hey not sure if I missed something but how do you actually power this? Is it some sort of insert that has all the usual cables coming from it and an external power brick?
Does it come with all that or does that have to be bought separately like you had to with the power button?
+Ryan Grehan You will need either a Pico PSU or an HDPlex 250. I made a video on the Pico PSU used in this video, you can see it here: ruclips.net/video/FnHlqWUHLAI/видео.html
Tek Everything Cool thanks
can you please show gaming performance? I'm just curious how 160w handles a GPU and CPU
+Jason Saez That system would most likely pull over 200W so you would need to use an HDPlex 250 instead of a Pico PSU
that is a very Gorgeous case, after building a massive tower pc, i'm sold that my next one will be a mini itx, hopefully AMD's Zen Apu's (with HBM) are good so could possibly use that gpu bay for a AIO.
+Lord Xantosh Zen should offer a dramatic improvement when it comes to integrated graphics. If it could replace mid tier GPU's say in the GTX 960 range then I could definitely see a configuration like that working out.
and where is the power supply?
What do you think of this comparing against the LZ7? I can't decide between them.
The LZ7 is much easier to build in, and can take larger coolers. The S4M is better looking, and much more compact. It depends on what you are looking for.
How did you install the PSU?
Pity that that's the only case they have on the site. The same material and build would kick ass on a bigger system.
Thanks for the insight. What are the noise levels like with this vented design? And also, how does it manage dust?
Noise levels will be dictated by your component selection. There isn't much keep sound from escaping. My test system was quiet... but if you install something like a 6700K, you will need to ramp up the fan to a level that would definitely be audible.
Dust hasn't really been an issue. Just hit the inside with some canned air every month or so. If you were really worried, you could install dust filters
Thanks again for the insight Jay!
hi after saving for a while i was able to get all my parts so to power the 970 i just need a hdplex and 330w brick right? no dual psus?
+Bentz Yes you should be fine with an HDPlex. What CPU are you using again?
+Tek Everything a i5 6500
+Bentz Thats right, then yes. You should be good to go
+Tek Everything one more thing does the case come with the hd plex mod cuz i dont see it on mine
+Bentz Are you referring to the mounting holes on the velcro strip?
great review
what psu can I use for this case for a 6700 (non-k) + r9 nano?
+8-bit You would probably need to use a Pico 160XT and an HDPlex 250. I would recommend sticking to a GTX 970, but it is possible to run an R9 in here
quick question, how do you wire the power button?
+Sentinel Polaris It screws into the hole on the back right of the case. Check out the full assembly vid in this link if you want to see exactly how it connects. ruclips.net/video/X-NABMhIl4Q/видео.html
thanks
How do you buy this? I clicked the link, but I saw no price or option to buy it.
Click on the contact form to inquire about availability on the nfc-systems website.
I won't personally be doing a build like that... But it was done on the smallformfactor.net forum.
I'll take a look at that. Thanks for the info. This is by far the best sff gaming PC channel on RUclips. Keep up the good work!
Bro, how much does it cost to build it a pc like that ?
Where can I buy this case?:
excellent video jay! really helpful, could you make a new one explaining how to install the pico psu and the hdplex and similars ? it could be awesome and extremely helpful. ill subscribe!
I made a video on Pico PSU's here: ruclips.net/video/FnHlqWUHLAI/видео.html
HDplex vid is still in the works.
What about other, higher wattage, DC-DC PSU's? I have an i5-6600K and a GTX 970 and the recommended PSU wattage is 500W. How are you able to run such low wattages?
The recommended wattage and actually system draw are general quite far apart. You could run a 6600K and 970 off of an HDPlex 250 with no problem
Tek Everything Would I be able to build using the HDPlex 250 without having to change any voltages in the BIOS? I don't really have any experience with changing voltages on rails. Also, if the HDPlex 250 overloads, does it have a failsafe to shutdown the PC?
Where did you put the PSU?
I used a Pico PSU. I did a video on them. Check it out here: tekeverything.com/what-is-a-pico-psu/
what is the watt of the pico psu in this system?
+Platipus Gaming 200W
I'm confused on how it powers a GTX 960 ?
This build was just set up to show fitment. You could power a 960 with the Pico 160xt if you chose a low TDP CPU... but it may not be stable under load. You should really go with an HDPlex 250 for any system at or around 200w
Where does one find a HDPlex 250 or similar that's not half the value of the case, on top of all the other expensive necessities required to even consider this case? I'd love to have it, but wish it was a better competitor with prices in the ITX branch.
I know this is irrelevant, but how's the Dell holding up? do u still prefer that or if you had option to get LG would you?
I hope you kinda put it side by side with normal objects though ex soda can, normal case, ps4 etc to get a feel of the size
there doesnt seem to be any possible way that 160watts could run all of that..?
+Brian Walsh II The 160XT can handle peak loads of 200W. The system in the video was more to show fitment then anything. If you were going to run this set up full time you would either need dual Pico's or an HDPlex 250.
okay i was wondering. seemed like a large amount of power. what did you use for this?
Does the pico-psu supply enough amps to the 960 on the 12 V rail ??
+Jan-Christopher Estelmann Not without rolling back the voltage. I cut the voltage by about 60%. That was a temporary configuration
Tek Everything k thanks, sombody should make an enclosure für atx or sfx psus to but them unter de table or somethink like this and route a cable to this type of litte cases, or an dc-jack to atx/cpu/PCIe-adapter for the inside
+Tek Everything I'm no electronics expert, but what about the Dual PicoPSU setup you've posted about on SFF forum?
+Benjamin Le Yes that would work, but long term I would opt for an HDPlex.
This is the thread he is referencing - smallformfactor.net/forum/threads/simple-dual-pico-psu-set-up.552/#post-9520
good stuff, how often do you make videos ?
Whenever I can. I will be releasing one this weekend for sure.
is this case available in ASIA
Great case! Nice console replacement! I give it 8/10 simply because you can't insert disk holder after GPU
very good reviews and videos ! thank you ! regarding the s4 mini case, why to pay so much money on a metal when you can use them to buy much powerful tech .. ? strange
Some people don't want traditional plastic boxes on their desk. It can be nice to have a custom, purpose built case in terms of both looks and design.
Amazonfly surprises by the production quality of the vidéo. Google suggested me this video. I bust bought an intel skull vais it s even smaller and powerfull. Wherr isbthe psilu ? You didn t showed it ! It deelsblike it s a pico psu like on some other smalls factor systems
loved the vids and the theme of your channel. any chance you could make a console killer for current Gen games😀
There is an excellent chance of that happening
Wooo! Good stuff then I'll definitely be tuned in
Love it. Wish I didn't have to wait until July to get one :( Joshua makes the best mini itx case out there.
Yes he does. Easily the best case I have ever owned.
Can I get rid of the PSU and GPU, and put in a SFX power supply instead? I'm not gaming on it so....
No, the case does not support SFX PSU's. You could use an HDPlex 160W internal brick, and a an HDPlex 160 DC-ATX.
Tek Everything But doesn't the power supply just depend on the motherboard? As long the power supply fits that is...
An SFX PSU won't fit, and even if it did... where would the power cable go?
Tek Everything Ah okay... I think i'll make my own case.. hahaha.
how do you power it? is it an external power supply? great vid.
You power this with either a Pico PSU, and anHDPlex. Both require external power bricks.
Still need this case
Get one quick! I believe he is almost completely out.
Wild guess: Sounds like the Dan A4 that was successfully Kickstarter'd a while back.
+Danial Azman nope. its a shell from a console. but which one...
Something thin as 3.2" and small dimensions overall ... The Wii perhaps?
Why do you need an internal optical cd drive? It just takes up room, you don't need it but if you really did need it then you could buy an external one.
Windex it's because it's a ps2 shell
i apologize for the question, but, where is the ram and power?
The RAM is on the motherboard, it might be hard to see because it is all black. I used a Pico PSU with this build. The case was designed for use with a Pico PSU or an HDPlex 250. I made a video on Pico PSU's if you want to learn a little more about them.
can it fit a geforce 1070? and will the power source have enough juice to power this rig with a graphics card of that power?
The only 1070 mini currently on the market is a little too tall to fit. So the answer is no for now. You could run a 1070 system with an HDPlex 250 and Dell 330W power brick
Would be nice if you showed how you powered it. Nice video though
You can use a Pico or HD-Plex PSU. I didn't want to confuse anyone. I made a video on the Pico, you can check it out here: ruclips.net/video/FnHlqWUHLAI/видео.html
Silky smooth production, subbed, subbed, subbed!
what is the difference between s4 and s3?
The S3 is a bit smaller I believe, and the GPU faces upward. It uses a longer ribbon cable that passes behind the GPU. Josh over at the 'Not From Concentrate' youtube channel could answer that question better than me.
how is this thing powered? does it have a external PSU?
+IgotGreens101 It uses a Pico PSU : ruclips.net/video/FnHlqWUHLAI/видео.html
Tek Everything Awesome that was a helpful video! so their website shows the s4 mini a full build includes a Intel Core i7-6700 (65w) / AMD R9 380 ITX 4GB / Gigabyte Z170 Mini / Patriot Memory 16GB DDR4 / Samsung EVO Pro 500GB
So that little power supply can run all that?
+IgotGreens101 An R9 380 would probably need and HDPlex 250. Which is a slightly bigger internal power supply with an external brick. the Pico 160XT can power systems up to 200W.
Lack of any dust filters is the deal breaker for me. ML08 & RVZ02 are better.
what are the specs that u have for this build and can it support a 970
+Bentz This build has a i7-4790s, 16GB RAM, and GTX 960, with dual pico PSU's.

Tek Everything ty
Tek Everything im surprised by how much u can do with a case this small
Tek Everything also how did u manage to fit 2 pico psu in there?
That is complicated. I would not recommend it, but it does work. Check out the thread in the link below for details.
smallformfactor.net/forum/threads/simple-dual-pico-psu-set-up.552/#post-9520
Could you fit a rx480 in there
of course not..
No, but you can fit a 1060/1070 mini
