    But fuck, he isn't untouchable. The week before the Australia tour that year, that he was on and I had tickets to, they pulled him from everything and for some reason, people thought he didn't need to repent for doing something that stupid. Titus O'Neil being forced to work with him after Titus had made his feelings clear about Terry Bollea was the boldest arrogance I've seen WWE show in years.

    This is a truly bizarre list.
    On one hand, scandals like the steroid scandal and subsequent trial and the sex scandal are all on there, the Owen Hart death was never mentioned and the Benoit murder/suicide was mentioned in passing while discussing a different scandal.
    The "bullying" is questionable on its face, but to say it "rocked" the WWF is quite the embellishment considering only a fraction of fans have even heard any of the stories associated with the alleged issue and never resulted in anything more than a nuisance lawsuit.
    The Hogan tape was laughable at best. It brought no problems to the WWF other than a serious over-reaction by the company and a couple of headlines. It was quickly forgotten about outside of those in the wrestling bubble.
    The Owen Hart death on then other hand occurred at the peak of the company's popularity, and thus resulted in a ton of negative press for the WWF and cost the company $18 mil. + from the settlement and associated legal fees.
    The Benoit situation is the only other scandal besides the steroid trial that threatened the very survival of the company.
    I'm at a loss to understand how something silly like the bullying allegations or the Matt Hardy mess could be seen as bigger occurrences than prominent deaths that not only occurred on the WWF's watch, but literally "rocked" them to their core.

      Calm down, it was a speculation and the video says scandal, and I don't know about you, but I see a scandal as something that could have potentially been hidden or swept under the rug. Neither Owen Hart's death or Chris Benoit's actions were scandals as they were very open tragedies.

    • @kennym.4664
      @kennym.4664 2 года назад

      @@nathanthom8176 I'm perfectly calm. I took your comment as speculation, but it seems my response was taken with a much angrier tone than it was given.
      I disagree with your assertion that tragedy and scandal have to be two completely separate things. Scandal has resulted from tragedy many times in history.
      Chris Benoit's steroid use and the impudence of WWE's drug policy came to light as a direct result of the Benoit tragedy.
      Owen's death resulted in the poor decision by the WWF to continue the show as well as the WWF allegedly forcing Owen into that situation as retaliation for Owen refusing a creative direction he wasn't comfortable portraying.
      Scandals result from tragedy all the time. With tragedy, some of those things that had previously been "swept under the rug" are able to be brought to light.

    • @nathanthom8176
      @nathanthom8176 2 года назад

      @@kennym.4664 I didn't say they were exclusive but they are separate. Chris Benoit's action are a tragedy, nothing more. I'd there a potential scandal around medical professionals, drug use etc, sure but if you just say Chris Benoit then then everyone is going to be talking about the murder suicide (you mention the Benoit situation led to other scandals, which would be thier own thing).
      In regards to Owen Hart's death, outside of unproven conspiracy theories there is no scandal. I personally find the way that WWE and Vince treated Owen's wife and family following his death scandalous but it wouldn't be considered a scandal and most don't even mention it.
      A scandal pretty much needs anger and/or outrage and the only thing the Benoit and Owen Hart situations resulted in was sadness, and any of the surroundings of said events barely caused a murmer (so no scandal).

    Few auto racing specific ones...and the XFL for good measure
    First one's just a rumor and I don't remember if it's fact or not, but when monster truck racing was big in the 90s, there were rumors WWE wanted in to stick it to WCW who were big into sponsoring trucks at the time.
    WWF as it was then, then in the early 2000s, went into NHRA drag racing, showing up in the Funny Car class and underwhelming massively. 2000, NHRA. Funny Car. yeah that was the era of JFR turning up and strolling into the final rounds. Need to go rewatch the 2000 season but I'm fairly sure the team didn't get much TV time because they were so average. Oh and they got into the offficial NHRA videogame too at the time, because why the hell not...
    The XFL. THe /original/ XFOL. Do I need to explain why this was a scandal for the WWE? Okay this one's not super auto racing speciific. I figued I'd just toss it in because easy target
    There was, around the late 80s/early 90s during the ring boy scandal, some confusion with sportscaster Pat Patterson who called events for (I think it was?) SETN and the WE Pat Patterson over which one was involved/who was who. Pat (the sportscaster) can be heard on multiple late 80s cable sports telecasts
    Dwayne Johnson wanted to use his 'The Rock' persona to help or start up a race team, I forget which. WWE were not impressed. Side note. Guess who bought up what's left of the rebooted XFL? Yeah. Dwayne

      Dwayne was going to enter NASCAR with Hermie Sadler as the co-owner and driver in the early-2000s. Team was going to be called “Rock Racing” and they were going to purchase the assets of Joe Bessey’s Power Team. Story goes that the WWF legal team found out and refused to allow Dwayne to use his character name/image/likeness in any way shape or form without the WWF also being part of the team.
