I don't understand calling this the kraken special, surely it's much more of a splashdown replacement. I'm interested to see how much damage the slide phase of the special will do.
That’s what I’m saying the wave breaker feels like echolocator 2.0 and the trizooka feels like inkzooka 2.0 but the reef slider is more of a splashdown 2.0 than kraken which kind of upsets me I wish we saw a true kraken 2.0 but everything else is great
I have seen no one mention this before but at around 14:39 you can see that you can actually choose when you blow up the reefslider so that's really neat.
I have an irrational love for Wahoo World. I get that the stage isn’t great. But there’s a roller coaster above our heads! And theme park sounds! (Which sound amazing during recon with a 5.1 surround system.)
I haven’t watched this video yet, but I can already tell it’s a good one, just from the thumbnail and intro. So far, good work Chara! Edit: I just got done watching this video and man, Chara is so good at explaining and showing us new stuff. Great video bro!
so about rotations, i think this is a slight step up from 2's because we get to choose between Anarchy Open and Anarchy Series, which have different rotation schedules and can both be played solo. So even if you can't choose all modes, you'll still have more variety than before which is an okay compromise. incredible analysis, thanks for getting this out so soon!
14:39 I think you can decide when you want to stop with the Reefslider bcs we can see the trail go a bit longer before it explodes. It still has a max range tho
I just found out that you can have MORE than 4 special weapons in salmon run! I saw the crab tank, killer wail 5.1, Reef Slider, the new echolocater special, Ink jet, and Triple Inkstrike!

There's one slightly unfortunate detail with the replay system. It's similar to Smash bros where the game doesn't "record" the battle, instead the game repeats all of your inputs, meaning after every update, the replay can no longer be rewatched.
The way they're doing it makes much more sense as it A) takes up a billion times less storage and B) would technically allow you to move your camera to any position without following any player's POV, though I don't know how much freedom we are going to get with the last point.
Seeing flc’s explanation for what the ranked system revamp will be like cleared up a lot. I’m stoked to play ranked bc from what I can tell things are gonna be infinitely better
What helps with the new change of rainmaker having checkpoints is where it will likely stop players resetting the rainmaker back to its original spawn point, where you gotta be more aggressive to get the rainmaker out from your base
One thing I haven't seen anyone mention: at 13:44, the roller jumps and then does a horizontal flick for some reason. They might have remapped the vertical flick to something else.
If they did that it would mess the roller, the vertical attack was a good and necessary addition in Splatoon 2. It might be, and imo it just is, that the player pressed ZR and jumped -right after-, so that they cover a wider area and not loose mobility. Many people do that with the dynamo for example
If you look at the splatfest footage you can see actual layout changes for Sturgeon Shipyard. They made the map leas of a square. They also made it unspawncampable from the looks of it. Good changes
I was just watching a few of the Splatoon 3 commercials on the Japanese Nintendo RUclips channel, and I discovered that there's actually some interesting information. Although the most I got out of all of them was that (what I believe is) Octobrush has Reefslider as its special. Though I may be wrong (mostly because I don't know if it is octobrush).
It looks like Intensify Action reduces Jump RNG as well as the RNG from Squid Roll and Squid Surge, so this could be really good for weapons like blaster that have bad Jump RNG
The highlight of the direct for me was seeing glooga and tetra (my mains) with really good kits, and no more damage up that ruins my weapons. 😂 It’s crazy how what I care most about for a new game are small balancing changes instead of new content lol 😂
Because we can change the main abilities, I definitely going to focus more on fashion. Wait I just realized, just change the main on the brand you want and its smooth sailing from there
One thing which no one really saw so far: The salmon run ufo boss is supposed to resemble big bubbler and it is possible to go into the barrier as an enemy of the salmonids so it will probably also be possible with big bubbler in online mode.
The Glos on the Squid roll/surg mens your invincible at least in the German Splatoon 3 directed it sad “bist du unbesiegbar” which translates to your invincible but as always nice video
This direct definitely calmed down my worries. Way over my expectations! I still don't understand how Anarchy Battles work very well though, I guess I'll have to find out in the game itself.
I’ll try to explain what I think it is: • The rank meter is removed. To rank up, you need to get a certain amount of points and then complete a rank-up battle. • You cannot rank down by losing. • To get points, you have to wager some points to start a “Series”. Win 5 games in a series and you get points, but if you lose 3 games you lose the series. You can also earn points by getting “medals”, but they haven’t explained what those are yet. This next part is a bit of a guess since they haven’t really cleared this up: • Once you get enough points, you can participate in a rank up battle, which is also a series. • You will play with players in the rank you’re trying to get. • You’ll wager some points, and then you’ll have to win 3 games before you lose 3. • If you win, you’ll rank up. • Every 3 months, your rank will decrease. • S+10 or above will go to S+0, S+0-9 will go to S, S will go to A+, etc. • Your rank will only ever go down by 2, so if you had S+10, you’ll go down to S+0 in 3 months, S after 3 more, and stay at S. • Open Anarchy is more of a casual mode. • You’ll play with people of your rank if playing solo, or of whoever in your group has the lowest amount of points. • You don’t wager points in open, so there aren’t any stakes. • Rank X is now a separate mode called X Battles. • You can play X Battles if you are S+0 or above. • You can still play the other Anarchy modes.
@@icedmorning7610 Ah, I see. Open Anarchy then is the place where I can practice new weapons I want to pick up on different rulesets from Turf Wars while not needing to worry about making my teammates lose. That sounds great, thanks for explaining!
Interesting analysis! As a casual player, I literally never think about whether a weapon kit is good or not, so it was interesting to hear someone talk about that.
SO happy about the two separate anarchy modes. i went literally years w/o playing ranked because it was such a pain in the ass. having a low stakes ranked modes option is HUGE. also, great vid as always!
5:28 personally i would say that reefslider wasnt trying to be kraken 2.0 but rather splashdown 2.0; its basically a splashdown that is much harder to kill, and its also on the dark tetras which has its old autobomb. i couldnt be happier and kinda makes me hype to see this on the splashdown-cursed weapons like undercover (YES please its too perfect). also, my guess would be that the nose of the special is the blocking part, since the player doesnt get inked at all and the nose turns directly towards the hydra due to the end animation. the alternate view angle also shows bullet impacts, so the game's definitely not bugging out. my biggest question remaining would be "can it deal damage from running people over"? that has huge combo finisher potential.
One thing I noticed is that at 28:26 in the direct it shows the reefslider stop early, so maybe you can press zr to make it stop when you want on the track it's on.
as someone who has times where i lose a crap ton of games, I’m SO HAPPY that we don’t rank down from losing games! having the constant worry of ranking down when I’m just trying to have fun in ranked is really draining for me, so that’s a literal godsend. man, I’m so friggin hyped for s3!!!
I think reefslider is like kraken + splashdown type of combo? I would think when you get to your destination you're invinsible but if you're charging up and riding to the destination you're vunerable.
I'm gonna give my overall thoughts on this sort of stuff here, because there’s a lot. - I feel like Reefslider is a mix of Kraken, Baller and Splashdown! Baller due to the explosion being like that, Kraken due to the way it's a rush in special, and Splashdown from telegraphing! Honestly, my hopes for a Kraken-Splashdown fusion have kinda been answered in a way! Also, that way Tetras still have Autobomb and Splashdown in spirit lol. - GLOOGAS WITH KENSA .52 KIT IS HILARIOUS! And I'm totally buying it day 1 because of golden licenses. - I'm so happy they're seemingly fixing ranked and X rank. That's amazing. - DYNAMO RANGE IS TERRIFYING, I'M SCARED THE KING OF ROLLERS IS BACK - Good lord we have 15 specials in this game. 15 GOD DAMN SPECIALS! And I know we can do without missiles, but maybe they won’t be as necessary, or might get toned down a bit. I'm worried about Wave Breaker personally, I think it could be the day one Tenta Missiles of this game, being extremely underpowered and needing buffs (but it looks at least useable though, I worry it could be easily shredded). - Splatana is so damn cool, and I'm glad we don’t have to wait like we did for Brella. Also, I swear that different Splatana is both a chainsaw and pizza cutter lol - Final thought, on topic for the specials, I wonder how many of them are gonna be breakable? The three they showed this time, Tacticooler, Wave Breaker and Reefslider, and Crab Tank all seem like prime candidates for Object Shredder.
Wave breaker needs a lot of health or a lot of range. The waves seem very annoying to deal with the from the salmon run footage and if it doesn’t have much range you’re gonna have to put it in the middle of the open. I really hope it has range it’d be great for jet or h3 type weapons
@@key81885 I'm gonna say in Salmon it's gonna be around the threat level of the storms, harmless alone, but very annoying in combination with salmon chaos (balanced by being able to use the cannons with the golden eggs). It'll probably be the same for battles, it’ll be very tactical to use it at good moments, or alternatively it can be used as DUALIE-BE-GONE, as they can't as easily jump around while shooting without practice.
i think the 96 octoling's glow during the stamp segment was a small invincibility moment from freshly spawning in, as a way to avoid being shot down instantly upon jumping right back into the fight
this is aging pretty well! (except for your opinions on Mahi resort. and also point sensor is in the game). i'm glad about the dynamo range upgrade. it also got a post-launch buff. (i'm a dynamo main.)
I’ve waited forever to change the main stat! Now we can actually create good looking sets of gear, and not have to sacrifice performance. Also, Bamboozler kit when? It served me well in Splat 2, but considering the lack of MPU, it may become obsolete because of the low DPS. The soda special seems kind of strange, could enemies steal the soda for themselves? Having the replays may also help with reporting and banning hackers and the smurfs that are bound to show up.
From the descriptions on the JP and the English website (if google translate isn’t being inaccurate) Anarchy Battle (Open) seems to be people which any rank that can play with each other and the game tries to balance the skill level based on the players. I hope that is the case so then it’ll be easier to play ranked whenever you would like with any friend outside your rank
Japanese site clarifies this. Series matchmaking: Power Level within your Rank Open matchmaking: Power Level *only*. If playing in group of 2 or 3, allies will be found based on lowest power level in your group. Opponents will be matched based on the *total* of each team's Power Levels.
I feel like i’ll wait a while before buying anything with the golden tickets in case new splatanas get launched with like a lvl99☆ unlocking condition😂
Great video, I didn't know a lot of this stuff! There are some things I noticed that you didn't mention, though: - Booyah Bomb doesn't paint at all anymore. - Glooga Dualies don't paint as well as .52 Gal, but it also costs 180p as opposed to K52's 190p, meaning it only takes roughly one more second to get its special than K52. Edit: I did a stupid and didn't read the description before posting this. Removed everything that was listed there.

Wait thats huge ty
I have an irrational love for Wahoo World. I get that the stage isn’t great. But there’s a roller coaster above our heads! And theme park sounds! (Which sound amazing during recon with a 5.1 surround system.)
Thats fair, I think it has one of the best aesthetics of any stage, if they tweak the layout it could be awesome
I haven’t watched this video yet, but I can already tell it’s a good one, just from the thumbnail and intro. So far, good work Chara!
Edit: I just got done watching this video and man, Chara is so good at explaining and showing us new stuff. Great video bro!
Dude I can’t WAIT for splatoon 3, it looks so good, and this analysis made it even better, thanks for this, your a legend! 🙂
2:17 well this didnt age well
This was a really good breakdown of everything that happened in that direct. I can’t wait for this game man, I love this series!
so about rotations, i think this is a slight step up from 2's because we get to choose between Anarchy Open and Anarchy Series, which have different rotation schedules and can both be played solo. So even if you can't choose all modes, you'll still have more variety than before which is an okay compromise.
incredible analysis, thanks for getting this out so soon!
digging the thumbnail too!!
And Booyah Bomb
YEEESSS. Ok now can we get new subs?
@@Blumoon09 the problem with other subs is how would you take out Maws or Flyfish?
@@JakoBpyroTech still work as normal with some tweaks. The suc bomb insta booms. 2 burst for burst bombs full charge of soda needed torp insta explodes.
@@Blumoon09 I can see some of the other bombs potentially working, sure, but not the many other utility Subs.
Honestly though, with how well Splat Bomb works for the mode, as a boss takedown or get off me lessers tool, Fizzy is maybe the only one that could hold a candle to it.
There's one slightly unfortunate detail with the replay system. It's similar to Smash bros where the game doesn't "record" the battle, instead the game repeats all of your inputs, meaning after every update, the replay can no longer be rewatched.
ye thats how most systems work
just make a recording of the replay. also, im pretty sure that like smash, you'll be able to convert them to videos in-game.
I'm not sure how they'd be able to do it otherwise though without requiring a ton of storage
The way they're doing it makes much more sense as it A) takes up a billion times less storage and B) would technically allow you to move your camera to any position without following any player's POV, though I don't know how much freedom we are going to get with the last point.
It’s nice how they added “almost” like the actual game for this reason.
thank you for working hard and getting out an analysis video out the next day!
I love the energy you have in this video, Sir Chara!
At 7:06 the glow you see from the Octoling is actually the spawn protection glow, hence the particles surrounding them
Seeing flc’s explanation for what the ranked system revamp will be like cleared up a lot. I’m stoked to play ranked bc from what I can tell things are gonna be infinitely better
Honestly, I'm glad I had notifs on. I'm so glad you did this in 26 hours
What helps with the new change of rainmaker having checkpoints is where it will likely stop players resetting the rainmaker back to its original spawn point, where you gotta be more aggressive to get the rainmaker out from your base
I do like MPU
The only problem is that the devs just couldn't resist adding Damage Up to the mix
You can zr and jump around the same time for a horizontal flick like that
If you look at the splatfest footage you can see actual layout changes for Sturgeon Shipyard.
Though I may be wrong (mostly because I don't know if it is octobrush).
undercover does octobrush has zipcast
@@ProChara I think it does. So the weapon I saw must've been something different.
It looks like Intensify Action reduces Jump RNG as well as the RNG from Squid Roll and Squid Surge, so this could be really good for weapons like blaster that have bad Jump RNG
the optimism
The highlight of the direct for me was seeing glooga and tetra (my mains) with really good kits, and no more damage up that ruins my weapons. 😂 It’s crazy how what I care most about for a new game are small balancing changes instead of new content lol 😂
Clam blitz also now shows how many clams each individual player has at the top of the screen
thank you for the explanation on ranked i spent 3 hours trying to figure it out yesterday
Because we can change the main abilities, I definitely going to focus more on fashion. Wait I just realized, just change the main on the brand you want and its smooth sailing from there
One thing which no one really saw so far:
The salmon run ufo boss is supposed to resemble big bubbler and it is possible to go into the barrier as an enemy of the salmonids so it will probably also be possible with big bubbler in online mode.
Yeah!! Why aren't more people mentioning this???
The Glos on the Squid roll/surg mens your invincible at least in the German Splatoon 3 directed it sad “bist du unbesiegbar” which translates to your invincible but as always nice video
The glow not glos
This direct definitely calmed down my worries. Way over my expectations! I still don't understand how Anarchy Battles work very well though, I guess I'll have to find out in the game itself.
I’ll try to explain what I think it is:
• The rank meter is removed.
This next part is a bit of a guess since they haven’t really cleared this up:
• Once you get enough points, you can participate in a rank up battle, which is also a series.
WOOOO, was waiting for this. Thankssss
Tetra Dualies and Splat Roller finally being free from the cursed splashdown makes me so happy, I CAN USE MY SPECIAL BUTTON AGAIN!
Dude this is one of, if not your best video
ahhh. suction bomb and zipcaster.
i wish one day we will discover parrallel universe travel so that we can have this kit instead of burst and crab.
Splattershot Jr always has splat bomb and a defensive special to make it fit for beginners.
The new Dynamo range is.. that's some E-liter crap right there
5:28 personally i would say that reefslider wasnt trying to be kraken 2.0 but rather splashdown 2.0; its basically a splashdown that is much harder to kill, and its also on the dark tetras which has its old autobomb. i couldnt be happier and kinda makes me hype to see this on the splashdown-cursed weapons like undercover (YES please its too perfect). also, my guess would be that the nose of the special is the blocking part, since the player doesnt get inked at all and the nose turns directly towards the hydra due to the end animation. the alternate view angle also shows bullet impacts, so the game's definitely not bugging out. my biggest question remaining would be "can it deal damage from running people over"? that has huge combo finisher potential.
One thing I noticed is that at 28:26 in the direct it shows the reefslider stop early, so maybe you can press zr to make it stop when you want on the track it's on.
I’m pretty new to the splatoon fan base and it’s terms. I’m in the middle of the video and my head already hurts what.
this video is the definition of “famous last words”
19:22 the jump rng is back on the blaster :(
O H N O YOU'RE RIGHT
as someone who has times where i lose a crap ton of games, I’m SO HAPPY that we don’t rank down from losing games! having the constant worry of ranking down when I’m just trying to have fun in ranked is really draining for me, so that’s a literal godsend. man, I’m so friggin hyped for s3!!!
Box physics is the most important part of the direct.
*Sees 20-minute-long analysis*: I sleep
*Sees Dynamo Vertical Flick Range*: REAL SHIT
Ah yes, thank you RUclips for recommending this after grand fest ended
I think reefslider is like kraken + splashdown type of combo? I would think when you get to your destination you're invinsible but if you're charging up and riding to the destination you're vunerable.
That 96’s glow might be the invincibility you get after jumping from your coffee machine which no one seems to notice
when undercover and range dont get these special weapons D:
I don't think that I've been this hyped for a game in years. Catch me on Team Scissors in the Premiere!
I like how everyone was scared for the game, then we get ALL of this
i have already played this game for over 50 hours and yet im still like: huh that chainsaw splatana sounds pretty cool
The splatana feels like your wielding meta knights sword
- DYNAMO RANGE IS TERRIFYING, I'M SCARED THE KING OF ROLLERS IS BACK
- Good lord we have 15 specials in this game.
Also, I swear that different Splatana is both a chainsaw and pizza cutter lol
- Final thought, on topic for the specials, I wonder how many of them are gonna be breakable?
No Main Power. That alone makes my score jump from 12/10 to 12.5/10
Now for Missiles to not ruin my... existence.
If they remove missles it’s 15/10
@@triggerhappy4199 If Burst Bombs get the specific preparatory animation nerf-rework I'm hoping for it's 16/10
@@ThreeFingerG frr also delete sploosh and splash and this is 20/10 for me
i think the 96 octoling's glow during the stamp segment was a small invincibility moment from freshly spawning in, as a way to avoid being shot down instantly upon jumping right back into the fight
Prochara, I love the way your voice sounds it makes me want to watch more of your videos!
this is aging pretty well! (except for your opinions on Mahi resort. and also point sensor is in the game). i'm glad about the dynamo range upgrade. it also got a post-launch buff. (i'm a dynamo main.)
SO GLAD THAT MAKO AND WAHOO ARE BACKK
IM SO EXCITED FOR TACTICOOLER AS WELL
Man this video did not age well
I’ve waited forever to change the main stat!
THE HAIR TENTACLES JIGGLE WHEN YOU WALK
🥺👌
From the descriptions on the JP and the English website (if google translate isn’t being inaccurate) Anarchy Battle (Open) seems to be people which any rank that can play with each other and the game tries to balance the skill level based on the players. I hope that is the case so then it’ll be easier to play ranked whenever you would like with any friend outside your rank
Japanese site clarifies this.
Series matchmaking: Power Level within your Rank
Open matchmaking: Power Level *only*. If playing in group of 2 or 3, allies will be found based on lowest power level in your group. Opponents will be matched based on the *total* of each team's Power Levels.
@@preyingshark4878 so for open it doesn't really matter what power level you have, therefore you can play with anyone no matter the rank?
@@nutshell57 Rank doesn't matter because it just matchmakes based on your power level (MMR).
I feel like i’ll wait a while before buying anything with the golden tickets in case new splatanas get launched with like a lvl99☆ unlocking condition😂
dualie squelchers having echolocator is a throuwback to the first game
i now hope for cds to have killerwhale omg
Great video, I didn't know a lot of this stuff! There are some things I noticed that you didn't mention, though:
- Booyah Bomb doesn't paint at all anymore.
- Glooga Dualies don't paint as well as .52 Gal, but it also costs 180p as opposed to K52's 190p, meaning it only takes roughly one more second to get its special than K52.
Edit: I did a stupid and didn't read the description before posting this. Removed everything that was listed there.
The booyah part might be a glitch with the spinners, so I didn't include it the special has some visual tweaks so its hard to saya.
I am excited to see Eliter back in the meta, I think this weapon deserve a better kit to be on the meta
