As a bmw owner myself, Pete is correct every job on a bmw calls for more etorx then necessary, or aluminum bolts that can’t be reused. That’s when I say 🙏🏽 thank the grater power out here looking out for the little guys FCPEURO! They really know how to take care of us euro guys. Keep killing it with the M5 wagooooon! It’s gonna be SPICY 🌶🥵🤘🏽🖤🚙💨🔥.
With regards to that shifter linkage joint you replaced, the old style uses 2 plastic yellow spacers/washers either side of the hole to take up the slop, and the new style on from BMW integrates the the plastic spacing in to the joint itself
I love that this series switches between being the "6K Sports Sedan Challenge" and the "6K Sports Sedan and Wagon Challenge" depending on who does the intro :D
Don't worry about anything guys. You're doing everything perfect. Most real car guys like to fix even the slightest detail on a car, including the badging on the engine cover. Both the BMW and the Lexus are beloved vehicles for ages. My first drawing when I was dreaming of becoming a car designer, was an E39 back in 1996. Keep the videos coming. Oh and be extra careful with those intakes when going through water puddles, especially deep ones.
Pete, the shift pivot pin bushing you replaced is supposed to have yellow washers from the factory that remove the play. The newer ones have the black molded spacers due to the original style washers deteriorating and disappearing.
The old gear shift bushing should have had two little plastic washers either side of it that would have ensured a sung fit the new design just integrates the washers into it. Definitely worth changing the part though as the material inside the bushing that connects to the gearbox goes bad over time!
Also, if your selector rod joint is otherwise in good shape, you can replace just the foam bushing inside for about $4, part number 25111434194. A whole new joint for mine was $60.
15:00 small correction, the s62 has an oil cooler in the form of an oil-coolant heat exchanger under the intake manifold in between the heads. No need for an external cooler... With your upgraded rad the oil cooling capacity also increases.
Cool project, I saw an E39 M5 wagon at the Cars & Coffee in Lafayette,CO a few years ago and it was really well done. It was Imola Red and so clean it looked like the factory built it. I've been looking at E36 Wagons lately because lots have imported E30 wagons, but the E36 wagon will be old enough to Import very soon. The engine swap possibilities are endless with E36s. Oh, they make little stickers to replace the M stripe colors on those badges so you don't have to replace the whole badge. I got one for my friend that has an E28 M5 and his was faded on the rear badge so I got him one, they are only $5.
2 things. The collar on the coolant tank should have been pushed back in. And did you swap out the pressure regulator on the fuel filter? If so FYI some aftermarket filters use a different size inside 7 mm vs 10mm.
The center o ring that sticks out. OE it’s like 5mm (maybe I don’t have right now) and aftermarket like Hengst is 7mm. It doesn’t leak outside but it does leak pressure inside.
I don't want to put comments after comments but I forget to tell you guy's this V10s are actually really good if you used them like normal no racing but what's the fun right. specially this 5.0 sounds like a F1 but you guy's doing a great job keep up the good work guys..
When I replaced the radiator of my E39 540i a few years ago, the aluminum core had expanded vertically from the crazy pressures their cooling system runs. It's just crazy.
Imo i would say go ahead and put the oil cooler on, just cause your a neighbor yo the US and lets say you decide to take your car cross country and maybe take it to nevada or some southern states. Just a thought!
Pete change the coolant crossover o-rings. You'll thank me later. I can see rust on that back pipe which makes me wonder if they haven't already started leaking. Also throw some right stuff grey on that gasket. Those gaskets are prone to failure so even 8f the gasket fails, You'll have the grey still holding up and maintaining seal.
you should use your polisher and the sonax stuff to make the BMW power badge on the top of the engine really shine so that it looks as good as the m badge you put on it
Did you do the wiring from the steering box to the connector in the drivers side wheel well before you dropped the motor in? It is easier that way. Also how did you mount the oil filter and ps bracket? Did you add the stock studs properly? Make sure to wire the coolant level sensor as well as the negative to the oil filter housing. These should be done prior to dropping the motor in. Also noticed you didn’t have the plastics behind the engine in... you will need to remove the plenum and getting those plastics is going to cost good dollars.
Coming along nicely dudes! Can't wait for the start up! M5 wagon is a perfect recipe in my books. Loving both the builds though, although a little biased to the Lex hahaha (Toyota fan) Look forward to the next ep!
In Europe BMWs are known for their exact shifters. Most BMWs come with a manual, might have changed in the last 5 years, but man, you'll always learn new things on the internet. Also the cooling, which needs an upgrade... Man was I lucky after blasting 150mls over the Autobahn in summer at full speed that my various BMWs didn't blew up. You believe the crap yourself?
Or if you used an 525/530it you can integrate the stock cooler to be used as an cooler. Not sure why everyone always want to use a 540it. Good work guys!
M power! Glad we could be a part of this build. Thinking 11 e-torx might have been easier than scraping off all that old adhesive 😅
Ha, I would have taken that over the glue as well!
I agree. However a heat gun may have made it a bit easier as well. It’s always a annoying job either way.
I love you guys when I need to source parts over the years!
"Send back the old glue, AND THE PACKAGE, for a lifetime warranty..."
Griots Paint Prep mixed with some distilled water... get it right off without all that work
If I may make a suggestion, for more views, I’d like to see more done with the cars once they are built.
Agreed. I wanna see them daily these
It would be great to see them driven. Maybe they can do a road trip with them when they are finished.
yep. agreed. where is 2j m3? and else
@@MrGerardgordon great idea since these are being built to be street able
Yeap, I second this remark.
RE: Honesty
That's true, people nowadays get butt hurt when honest feedback is shared.
However, I'm from a different generation and don't get butt hurt.
Keep em coming !

Thanks for the info!

Don't forget to paint where you cut bare metal for the cold air!
I love the time lapse segments. Thank you for not cutting that content out like a lot of people do.
heat gun for that adhesive, less prying marks

Music selection in this was on point!
Those small touches on the engine that you change just shows hw dedicated you guys are.. keep it up!
I know I'm late to this but I'm loving the LS430 & M5 builds! I look forward to the finished products! Great work!
The time lapse was wicked cool. I'm on the wagon for the wagon.
I love that you list all the vendors webpages and not just a list of amznNonsense. Shipping is expensive up here.
Pete, the shift pivot pin bushing you replaced is supposed to have yellow washers from the factory that remove the play. The newer ones have the black molded spacers due to the original style washers deteriorating and disappearing.
You guys are great to watch. Really enjoy this series. Cheers from Australia
The badge on the engine makes a massive difference. Looking good. Can't wait to see the finished result.

The E39 already has factory cold air intakes, watch out for puddles with that setup.
Dinan probably already thought of it, he said there’s more ducting which probably includes weatherproofing.
I swear, nobody runs a hydrophobic prefilter like they should.....
Factory cold air intakes ??? 🤣🤣
@@Tim_Alfaro there are many cars with factory intakes that pull fresh cold air from outside the engine bay...
@@Tim_Alfaro Yes, the car pulls in air through the kidney grilles, and routes it to the air boxes.
love this series! its nice to see the progress. almost like therapy watching people fix and upgrade cars.
Cant wait for the finished result! Def a dream build
loving this series love the fact these are cars that are actually affordable
15:00 small correction, the s62 has an oil cooler in the form of an oil-coolant heat exchanger under the intake manifold in between the heads. No need for an external cooler... With your upgraded rad the oil cooling capacity also increases.
Yes! Thank you, should have mentioned that.
great video, love the editing as-well and music. loving this build series :p
That engine is one hell of stand up desk. 🤣😁

Until you see the engine bay wasn’t painted.... 😢
Dinan made some epic upgrades for the E39, well worth the expense. You think German engineering is best, but Dinan takes it to a whole other level.
Loving the background montage music. Sounds like I’m playing the original Deus Ex game on my PC.
Still have that on an old xp machine
My dream car was never made. So sad! Thank you guys for making it happen. God bless!
11 e-torx fasteners? That's absurd! You know the Germans wouldn't use an odd number - it'd be 12
The bloopers were hilarious. Stoked for the next episode guys!
Great series! Can't wait to see you guys hit the streets with these builds.
Live this channel , Great stuff Guys don’t change anything keep going like this ✊🏼
I mean Dinan is essentially oem right?
2 things. The collar on the coolant tank should have been pushed back in. And did you swap out the pressure regulator on the fuel filter? If so FYI some aftermarket filters use a different size inside 7 mm vs 10mm.
Thanks, Ill double check the coolant tank but not really sure what collar you mean. FPR was swapped over from the M5
The center o ring that sticks out. OE it’s like 5mm (maybe I don’t have right now) and aftermarket like Hengst is 7mm. It doesn’t leak outside but it does leak pressure inside.
Those CAI’s are sick!
For me this is a dream build! Coming along so well. Can't wait for the challenges at the end.
scrutineering! This is an excellent video production, and I'd love to pick up an e39 wagon with a V8 already in it. Kudos to your channel.
That time laps was amazing!
Amazing build, guys. The only thing that would make this even better in my mind, would be an E34 touring shell. That's just preference, tho.
damn that engine is beautiful I love the huge dual intakes
I don't want to put comments after comments but I forget to tell you guy's this V10s are actually really good if you used them like normal no racing but what's the fun right. specially this 5.0 sounds like a F1 but you guy's doing a great job keep up the good work guys..
Actually, the S62 has an oil cooler, it's a coolant heat exchanger that sits in the valley of the engine. The more you know~
When I replaced the radiator of my E39 540i a few years ago, the aluminum core had expanded vertically from the crazy pressures their cooling system runs. It's just crazy.
Best way to get the badges off is fishing line. U put the fishing line under the badge and go back and forth and it comes off way easier
You should continue being honest about the downsides, but also highlight the upsides.... that’s an Epic V8.
The way you guys call each other by your initials isn't supposed to be funny but I find it hilarious
PROPER M5 that’s what I want to see ! ✊
That motor dropped in nicely!! The intake system looks good tho!
Extra works pays off at the end when you driving a great machine
Lovely build guys. Doing what BMW should've done but never did..
You need the old school logo as the backprint for that first hoodie, your welcome x
Perfect timing I’m on my lunch break!
LOL at 8 in the morning....:-)
UK lol it was 1pm
@@Stu.motive That explains it..LOL

@speedacademy Pro tip you should try to use a heat gun and 30lb fishing line and will get those badges and other things off way easier.
Honesty is a big reason I like you guys 1:40
Cant wait to see this show down!
Making the bad man wagon wicked
Cant wait to see it done!
Keep up the high level, and detailed content!
Make sure the rear window demister is super performy so that u can see the front when u are pushing it in the winter ps when it breaks down
love this series great job guys

At the end when talking about the hoodies did Pete actually say “scrutinairing”? 🤔
Wow excited for this one! cant wait to hear those dinan intakes, taking me down memory lane working on my e46 the headaches sometimes
Seen a few S85 swapped e39, monsters!
Some brake cleaner works wonders on the badge adhesive.
Best Engine for swap. My dream engine for my e46 ))))) waiting for new episode!
Loving these builds!
I love the spec clutch in my GT-R though I do wish I had gotten their flywheel too when I did the clutch job.

now that is an absolute masterpiece
Looks great!
Man i love this wagon this thing is legit and is going to be a beast!!
Otherwise an 2021 -Alpina B3 is the other beast.. ;0)
"give this guy a pump" I thought I was on the wrong video website for a second.
I'm enjoying a smuggled-into-Canada Chipotle burrito and a Zevia root beer as I watch this video.
I did lol when Dave said the engine cover logo was held on with 11 torx fasteners 😅
New merch looks good
Awesome video as usual fellas
I cant wait til it finishes!!
Can’t wait to see this thing on the track!
Keep the content coming - love the builds!
The attention to detail 😎👌🔥
Great video as always, can't wait to see these cars faceoff.
Great job guys!!!
As always, nice video!
Or if you used an 525/530it you can integrate the stock cooler to be used as an cooler. Not sure why everyone always want to use a 540it. Good work guys!
love this build!
Now I just can't wait until getting the loom hooked up
Both cars are coming out so nice... so clean and well done. I can't wait for the giveaway........... ...........
If the oil cooler kit comes with a thermostat i would fit it. Even the E30 325i here in Europe came with it from factory.
you should use W-sol from wurth for that adhesive
