It's one of my favorite freeway drives in the western US. "Thrilling" wouldn't be a bad word to describe the entire stretch, featured in this video. Thanks for watching!

Yeah, this is truly a thrill to drive. First time I drove this was back in 2010 and thought it was amazing stuff for a freeway grade.

Most of southern Arizona is indeed a desert, and a harsh one at that. However, you may be pleasantly surprised that much of Northern Arizona is covered in dense pine forests...in fact, the area around Flagstaff contains the largest Ponderosa Pine forest in the world. It's definitely worth checking out!

Absolutely stunning and amazing! The scenery and descent on that stretch of I-17 is something to be experienced! I remember an old family trip I took to Arizona around 1999, but I didn't think much of it then. Thanks for bringing this to life, and awesome job on the visual signs!

It's great to hear from you. Arizona continues to grow rapidly, and not just within the Phoenix metro area.
Glad you survived your crash, yikes! I usually try to leave at least a 3 second gap of space, when heading down that VERY LONG grade, and switch the transmission into D3, to avoid having to use the brakes. Ya just never know what could happen out there.

It's a pretty interesting drive, at least in my opinion...the stack interchange at I-10 (the northwestern interchange) is very nicely engineered and pretty impressive. As for I-17 itself thru the city, it's definitely worth a drive, but only if you're into urban freeway design. It's also quite straight, so if the relative lack of curves will bore you, you may not find it to be the most interesting freeway.
