Those narrow gauge mikados hold a special place in my heart ... I volunteered as fireman up there during my high school years, if I ever get back to PA, Mount Union will be my home.

I try to donate $50.00 to the Friends of the East Broad Top at least twice a year to help with track restoration and their other EBT restoration projects. I would encourage others interested in seeing this revival to make whatever contribution they can.

There was a small strip mining operation up at Alvan that started in 2017. The coal being mined was SUPPOSEDto be high grade with a VERY low level of impurities. I learned all this from somebody that lives in Broad Top City.
It's a pity the EBT didn't use any of it for their tourist operations.

I wish they also did this with the D&RGW San Juan Extension.

Why? East Broad Top has no reason to convert to oil, while a locomotive like Atlantic Coast Line 1504 I can understand why.

Why? (Except to be perverse.) PA has no shortage of coal, and it's both safer and less expensive than oil. Not to mention, un-historic and a PITA to convert..
