Nice to see my home country being recognized! I live in an area that had quite often Porter flights to Billy Bishop, and have been there before. Thanks for featuring it, and about the Q400: Yes, it does actually make pretty routine services to Toronto Billy Bishop, mostly from major Canadian cities such as Montreal and Ottawa, most of which are serviced by Porter. The reason for the jets not being allowed is the noise requirement- they would be too loud, and since it is in downtown, it would prevent sleep.
Perhaps they can make a time restriction, like no jets between 10:30 pm to 6:00 am. ARJs are pretty quiet

Technically I thought the jets did fit under the noise requirements provided in the agreement (also the airport is closed at night, closes at something like 9 or 10 PM?) but I think the residents thought that it was unsafe to have airplanes flying there, and did not want to see expansion.

5:00 actually those Toronto islands are the only car free neighbourhoods in Canada and it's really nice. I totally understand why it isn't expanded.

Swiss forgot about San Diego which is only 4 minutes from downtown San Diego and has all sorts of planes, including the A350-1000, buttering the bread every single day. Don't forget that San Diego is in the US of A. That airport has a better city approach, if you have flown into San Diego and you have sat on the left side of the plane, you would know.

I love people talking or mentioning about my home! I fly southwest all the time. Out and in san diego, the cool thing is not just the city but next to the runway is mcrd, marine corps recruiting depot! These pilots are just so skilled! Especially in San Diego!
@@Whimsiio so true. I'm also a San Diegan who Flys Southwest too much out of the circle of death (SANspotter's nickname for T1) and it's pretty skilled. I've never had a hard landing into San Diego (except for that one time I flew Spirit, but that's normal for them no matter how big the runway is) and I've been fortunate enough to take the inaugural Lufthansa A350 to MUC last month and then continued to FRA to meet some fam (and in hopes of meeting Swiss of course) I'm glad we're getting international widebodies back as I hated (and still do) going thru LAX due to the traffic and hassle it is to get from San Diego to LAX and I don't wanna go on the Crappy Regional Jets either. I do miss the BA 744 but I have a family friend who I met in FRA that has a high position with Lufthansa and I asked if they could add a service from San Diego to FRA on the Lufthansa 744 since they still have lots of them in operation and the 744 is the largest aircraft to operate thru San Diego and he said he'd bring it up to his colleague who is in charge of route management, so let's hope we can get the Queen back in San Diego.

I was in Toronto a couple weeks ago, I went up in the cn tower and you could litteraly look down on the whole city and that airport it was really cool
It's a super convenient airport with some interesting landings since you get some crazy winds sometimes from the lake. After one landing the pilot said "Who needs Canada's Wonderland when you've got us"...Wonderland being a major Canadian amusement park. Lol
It's also interesting that to get to the airport you either walk a tunnel under the lake or you take a 90sec ferry crossing.

Oh cool. My family went to Canada for vacation few years back in 2018 I think and Toronto was one of the destination points and we booked a hotel nearby this airport. I saw Q-400s taking off everyday,

Just put floaters on all the planes and a boat ramp and you're good. They can land and slow down on the runway then come to a stop on the water and taxi up the boat ramp to the gate. 😂

I watched this video at the perfect time! I was at Billy Bishop last Sunday! Also, do add on to your point about q400s, most planes that operate there (excluding private planes) are in fact q400's. The way you get there is also really cool. You have to go through an underground tunnel which is situated under the lake between the city and the airport.
There is another way to get to the airport, via ferry crossing. It's one of the shortest ferry crossings in the world at just 90 seconds but it makes for great viewing of the city of you go on the outside deck.

Actually the Q400 is allowed at Billy Bishop and is the plane that most airlines fly into this airport with.
