The painted patina really brings out the features in the sculpture; beautiful. You have a beautifully soft voice for narration. Your videos are a pleasure to watch.
Thank you for your generosity! I have just made my first sculptures, and was anxcious about applying glazes to them because there is no control over the outcome. Then I made small slabs to test oxide washes on them, but again I'm not sure I like the finish. I am so happy that I stumbled upon your video on wax finishes and this one on acrylic finishes. Now I can't wait to get started! Thank you!
I am glad you liked them. I don’t like glazes on sculptures. Lots of details are getting lost . When you try new finishes , make some tests on discarded pieces of bisqued clay
@@JoannnaMozdzen Thank you for your answer. I just made some more test tiles to try the waxes / patinas / acrylics on them. Have a lovely weekend, and thanks again!

I see that you use fired terra cotta clay, and white clay. I am pouring some molds with hydro stone, an artist grade plaster of Paris. I will try your finishing techniques on the dried hydro stone!
I really liked your idea of making flower covers with a woman's face. I have already made 3 pieces for a gift. I started playing with the cop this year. My faces aren't perfect, but I hope the next ones keep getting better. I guess I should practice drawing my face first to keep the proportions.
Thank you Joanna, for uploading your very helpful videos!! I am working on my first ever sculpture right now. I’ve been looking around on RUclips for tutorial sculpting videos and I have seen dozens of them. I find your videos out of all of them the most helpful and informative. As a starter I have yet to find out what kind of materials I can best use for giving my sculpture the nicest finish, both in protecting the sculpture as in finding the coloring I like the most. I will be making a few slats to try out those materials and you have given me a good idea of some of the materials I need for that. Thanks again!!!
I am delighted with your creativity and the next film. I counld't wait. I watch how captivated. Your nice calm voice also has a huge influence on my reception. Does it mean that I can finish the burnt out sculpture this way? without another firing? Thank you and best regards. Eve
Your work is so beautiful. And your voice also! Do you pant in bisque fired pieces and then do another kiln firing after the painting like you would a glaze or is it finished after the painting and no more kiln is needed?

Can paint on a chalk plaster sculpture be removed? I want to add some color to a sculpture. Can I add color using washes, like a red wash for let's say a robe?
Thank you Johana for sharing your experience with us. Because of your video I finally learned to work with soft brushes, which makes a world of difference when you work with the good tools. May I ask you which brand of acrylic paint you use.
These are amazing. I see you are using fire clay. Thank you for sharing ☺️ Question..can you use the same finishes, waxes and paint for air dry clay as well?
Hi, Joanna, did you ever try shellac with a copious amount of alcohol, mixed with colour powder? Can also give great patinas, but work quickly, it dries very fast!!
Can you explain what brand/style paint you use and how you got this consistency in the paint? It doesn't seem thin and runny like it has water in it but it also spreads very easily wearase when I paint my sculptures the sculpture soaks up the paint almost instantly. I use acrylic craft paint and add water. I also typically soak my terracotta so that the paint doesn't soak in so quickly. Any advice is appreciated.
i tried this but when i tried the white/bluey green wash it lifted up the brown paint underneath, the paint was fully dried so im not sure how to avoid any tips would be appreciated
Thank you for this wonderful demonstration ( Bardzi Pani dziekuje i pozdrawiam z Kaliforni!) I hope you don't mind me using your videos to show my 150 ceramics students while I teach via Zoom Meeting. :)

Most of the time I only bisque fire my sculptures. You can paint yours as long as they are fired and there is no glaze on them.

I paint bisque fired sculpture. No more firing after that.
I have an action figure I'm customizing with epoxy clay is acrylic paint the right paint to use?
I personally use acrylics. It works for me.
By the way, that's a nice profile picture 😉

Did you fire this first? Does it need firing after painting? I'm learning right now. Thanks in advance ❤
Ogromnie Pani dziękuję za podpowiedź, jest Pani wspaniała, pozdrawiam serdecznie
Is the clay still very fragile since it has not gone through a second firing? I know you said the wax hardens, but does it fortify the sculpture?
After the first firing clay is strong enough for sculptural work. Wax is used as a surface finish.

There is on metal wax in Sculpt Nouveau. Is it the one you recommend?
Yes it’s wax is for protecting metal sculpture

I added a few drops of water in mine. It looked similar to this consistency.
Good morning, how long should each layer be dried? I am in the process of finishing the sculpture according to your idea.
It depends on the room temperature. When is hot it dries very fast . I usually wait 20-30 min or use hairdryer to speed up the process.

Is it possible for you to do a tutorial on shading real skin tones like a light skin?

You can spray or paint layer of varnish , let it dry and then apply patina ( white/blue green wash)

Shoe polish works as a protective layer.

Low fire white . I fire it at cone 04-06
I use water based clay

Terracotta clay
