What about the NFC Divisional Playoff the day after Christmas in 1977 at the LA Coliseum (Vikings at Rams)? That game was in just as bad conditions if not worse.
@@WaltGekko I’m sure the field conditions in the St. Louis game were exacerbated by the fact that in those days there was no grass on the skin portion of the baseball Cardinals’ infield. The result was a mudbath. Vikings at Rams I didn’t remember but I see it was a slopfest, too.
@Walt Gekko that game is my first nfl memory. it was blacked out here in l.a. because it wasn't a sellout. that field was bad between the 20s and the hashmarks, but this is worse.
@@WaltGekko the rain here looks really heavy, which wasn't the case in '77. it was raining pretty hard by the end of that one, but not for most of the rest of the game
The 10-10 tie with the Giants cost the Cards a chance to play for a title. A 1970 tie with KC cost the Cards a chance to win the NFC east in 1970, a 28 all tie with Pittsburgh cost the Cards a chance at the playoffs in 1968
Once again, thank you so very much for posting another wonderful classic NFL game because this was when football was football. The NFL is now CRAP & isn't worth watching anymore. Thanks again.
Wrigley, Busch (Sportsman's Park), and Memorial Stadium in Baltimore didn't always have a soddened in infield after baseball season, so if it rained, mud. I'm still amazed at how chewed up the grass was though. Kezar Stadium and the LA Coliseum had no grass between the 20s by November back at this time because of all the high school and college games that were played as well as the 49ers and Rams.
I've been looking for this game for years.
Never will forget seeing this game on TV. No field conditions since come close to how bad this was.

AWESOME!!!
The color version is amazing. They showed a clip of it on the NFL Films Lost Treasures series and everything was so vivid.
Excellent upload!...what a slop fest.
This is what NFL football should be, heavy quagmires, destroyed football fields, massive muddy conditions and dirty, muddy football uniforms!!
💯💯
Any football should be...
Jim Bakken was money, Great kicker.
