What a declutter. I’m so impressed that you remembered when and how long you’ve had these items. Very impressive. Thank for taking us on the declutter with you. ❤
I don't have a too big collection, but for someone who only does her makeup 1-2 times a week it's definitely plenty. Last year I started putting stickers on it, where I write the date on when I opened it, because sometimes I have like 4 mascaras open and use them way too long. I'm not super pedantic about it, but some were in use for 9 months, because I found a new one in the meantime and didn't use up the older one. Powders get more leeway. Dating them helps and reminds me to use up the opened products that go bad fast. It also makes decluttering easier. It's my way of being mindful. I also stopped breaking the seal especially for cream products, just to see and swatch the product until I actually intend to use it.
LEbackstage it is good to see somebody else is using stikers too. My first eyeshadow palettes were not dated, but few months later I started to label them with the opening dates. And I also use this method for every other product too. Like moisturizer, eyecream, bronzer, blush, etc. This helps a lot even on my no buy year.
I have a note on my phone that I keep the product, opened date, and months good. I go through my products about four times a year and rely on the date, smell, and appearance. If any of these is off, it goes. I also do not have a large makeup collection, so that influences how I keep my inventory.
@@jenv6846 What a neat idea to put the note in your phone instead of a label/sticker on the product, noting how long it’s good for. I may do this with my new stuff instead of labels as it will save me the bother of label-maker tape!
I write mine down too in a journal. It helps to keep things under control because I only have the patience to write down so many items. My entire skincare and makeup collection fits on one page now and I’m very happy with what I have
A lot of these products that are being called old, I don't think there's anything wrong with unless they look or smell funny. I keep my powders, eyeshadows, and bullet lipsticks for MANY years and I've never had any go bad except for all my bite lipsticks (so I don't get those anymore) and one Natasha Denona single eyeshadow. I understand why an influencer tosses them out, but these products are absolutely fine and safe to use in my opinion. Anything liquid however, I replace regularly. Also, I store my (much smaller) makeup collection in a wine fridge so they'll last even longer.
But with a collection this large, she's not using most of these products anyway, so the older stuff is just taking up space and distracting from the newer or more loved items.
I went through a phase 2-3 year ago buying everything I could. Not so much high end, but tons of colourpop, Glamlite, OFRA, tarte, too faced, Juvias place, tons of drugstore like physicians formula, elf, bh and lots of others (ciate, abh, Huda, Natasha, etc). Anyway, I haven’t had time to use even close to a 1/3 of what I bought, so I started selling a bunch of new makeup I have on poshmark just so someone gets use out of it. I had 10 drawers of eyeshadow palettes (over 400 and I had only used like 70 of em, and barely). It becomes too much. We are wasting money and tons of makeup is just getting either hoarded or thrown into a landfill after a while.
I feel that. If I were to go back to my makeup shopping phase, I would only spurge on basics and get one of those big eyeshadow palettes and colored creams palettes to mix together all the colors under the rainbow for colors I wouldn’t actually wear. problem was, back then, I was convinced that every product would be The One. Maybe the solution is actually Decluttering and maxing myself out at a certain number of products … now that I think about this i should really use the max out strategy for my clothes. Got way too many clothes that I don’t wear from when I was in high school that I just keep around cuz they are alright
@@HayatBeautyWelt I hold onto powder products until they change smell, texture or don’t perform as well. However cream products go bad faster and mascara should be replaced every 3-6 months because they go bad quick. 😊
Michele,I think in your filming room you should have some kind of glass display case. You could showcase your limited and much loved items and you could even rotate them. You don’t see them in the drawers. You should see them more because they bring you so much joy. Just a thought! ❤️
So interesting to watch. Realise it’s part of the job but wonder whether it’s worth just not purchasing any special editions again(!)? If they’re limited edition, can’t be purchased, can’t be referenced and then ultimately go to the declutter …..? Just a thought!
Hi Michele! I just started watching and right from the start with your bronzers……you’re brutally honest in getting rid of things. It’s refreshing, especially after watching others with their declutters. Most people keep most of their things anyway.
So glad to see you declutter all the old things. People don't realise how much these makeup harbour germs over time. And we don't want to wait until we get an eye infection or cold sores to get rid of things. For all of us regular consumers, we really should stop buying more than what we can finish within a safe time period.
Love the declutter. A collection like yours can be overwhelming, plus it makes no sense to keep things that you aren’t using or are too old. I do have 2 suggestions. You could place a little sticker with the date that a product is opened to help determine what is old. You could also place the items that you are keeping only for shade references in a separate drawer to make it easier to find them.
I can’t watch the big channels who don’t use what they have anymore. My mental health can’t take the constant pummeling. The cognitive dissonance rubs off on me real bad
You aren't alone! I like to estimate the value of discarded items. Like, X lux bronzers at $60/ea. They probably cost more than that but it might be a good average. Add in discarded blushes, highlighters, and powders and suddenly you're up to about $3500 in waste. Add up all the other categories and holy crap now there's about $10k+ of lux waste every 6 months. This usually isn't 15 year old makeup either. I get that it's their job to do this, but it's still disheartening to see makeup pitched because the packaging is from the Spring collection but now it's autumn so it's time to let it go. 🤦♀️ Don't get me wrong- I like watching declutters. It's just extra interesting to see how much $$$ and products the rich people waste.

@@nailinthefashion I unsubbed a while back (other reasons), but pop in for declutters because it fascinates me to see what $4k of wasted lipstick looks like. It's a fascinating look at a peculiar thought process.
I’ve been thinking about all of the products I had pre-pandemic. 😳 That was such a definitive point that I can clearly remember what I had before vs since. Think of how old that stuff is at this point. Eeesh. It was a good reminder to me how long I REALLY have had some of these things. Before that I feel like the years just melted together and I could tell myself something wasn’t THAT old. Now I gotta go throw some stuff out!!
Michele. You really did it! I’m so proud of you. I declutter regularly; because I’m in the field and work at counters and organize the majority of them. You have to just do it. I know it’s seems wasteful and it is to a degree but people need to know it is your job to review makeup and there is only so much you can actually hold onto in the end. So proud of you! I absolutely love your decluttering videos but this one was brutal! I did learn something... to just declutter then organize. I always try to do them together and it doesnt always work. Halfway through the declutter, I'm tired of doing both so I always stop short of total declutter or find excuses to keep items. As always, great video Michelle!
I have started to put small date stickers on all my products as soon as I get them and it has worked very well. Just a regular tiny circle stickers from Office Depot they come in different colors.
I enjoy watching collections and declutters, I am a one and done kind of gal-I choose a brand-a year; Dior or Gucci or Valentino or Chanel and get one bronzer/blush/face powder/small eyeshadow palette, etc. and use it up for the year then go to the next brand on my list. I would find it hard to keep so much product if I were an influencer on RUclips, I guess I would review it then give it away. I wonder if Michele also declutters the PR products she receives or does she keep them-I would like to know what she keeps, just curious about that.

Thanks for this video. I’m going to move in a few months and need to declutter and throw away old make up, so this is a great inspiration to appreciate some products and then toss them. I love how you had a relationship with all of the items.
You have inspired me to go thru my bronzers and blushes. I have the hardest time getting rid of them. I've already gone thru foundations, concealers and eye shadow palettes. And I've GOT to go thru lipstick which is my absolute weakness.
Just a suggestion, but what if you grouped the products in each category by color family? For example in the blush drawer you would have all powder coral blushes together irrespective of brand. This may help you further de clutter based on shade overlap.
Right. Go the extra step and look at what‘s left, then decide which products will be used and which will not be. They won‘t just sit there and get old, and maybe someone can use them.
I always think this as well. I also think it would be easier to pick a blush for the day when having this many options if you grouped them by color and formula.
this is somewhat nauseating consumerism. I know it is an actual job, but seeing that pile in the thumbnail made me lament at how many Women in Shelters who would be grateful to get it
What if you used the limited edition products as decor??? Like on small clear or wall shade shelves in neat rows on one wall of your office? Is that tacky? They're beautiful and they bring joy!
My daughter has always made fun of me for writing expiry dates on my makeup! I also wash my makeup brushes and sponges often. If you are putting products on your face and eyes, you don't want to put dirty or expired products on your skin or eyes unless you want to get an infection or blemishes. Cleanliness cannot be underestimated. Well done Michele for being strong.😃💄

I always feel motivated when I watch these type of vids, or is it guilt 😅😅 It's really highlighted, to me, the ridiculousness of just how much makeup is accumulated, rarely use and, therefore, wasted. I'm going to make a very, VERY determined effort to be much more mindful of my purchases henceforth. I wish ALL brands would thin out their launches. They used to be seasonal and the collections were much smaller. My landfill contributions are going to be greatly reduced - yippppppeeeeeeee 😊 Love ya, 💗💗💗
You should put the pretty packaged ones, even if old, in a makeup display on top. Like the pretty Chantecaille with the pearls on top. Lisa Eldridge keeps old makeup just for show. It would make a pretty back drop or a filmed opener for your videos ;-)
It is so heartbreaking...makeup is such an impulse buy. "ooh so pretty', "ooh limited edition", and of course , the fomo attached.
@@jenv6846 I also do this. I don’t really keep track of date of opening. But I do keep track of the look, smell and texture of my makeup.
I don’t think she’s tossing them in the trash though, I thought maybe she donated or gives to friends or family unless they are obviously expired
Should we get rid of expired makeup?
@@HayatBeautyWelt Yes, particularly cream or liquid products that are used around the eyes, like pencil liners and mascara.
400?!!! 😲😲
That's what my husband built for me. I won't throw them away like this.
Take a shot every time Michelle says "relatively new." 🙌
Michelle should really start a cosmetics museum, or display it as art.
So interesting to watch. Realise it’s part of the job but wonder whether it’s worth just not purchasing any special editions again(!)? If they’re limited edition, can’t be purchased, can’t be referenced and then ultimately go to the declutter …..? Just a thought!
Everyone wants to see the limited editions and they get mailed to her in PR as well.
She gets them for free in many cases.
Am I the only one who feels sad about all that waste??
No, you aren't. Many are either too polite to say so or are big fans.
@@joorourke8134 not her being really casual about more than I make in a year. Michele.... there's more content to make than luxury reviews, omg. This is when I gotta dip again. My mental healf babes xx
@@nailinthefashion I unsubbed a while back (other reasons), but pop in for declutters because it fascinates me to see what $4k of wasted lipstick looks like. It's equally interesting to see what they keep after admitting, "I really didn't like the colour/formula/finish/packaging, but it's new so I'll keep it." It's a fascinating look at a peculiar thought process.
If it’s discontinued and it’s just old after a year or so; especially in stores we have to toss it. I know personally we like to hold onto it. But you gotta just purge. Especially when we work in it all the time.
I know it’s seems wasteful and it is to a degree but people need to know it is your job to review makeup and there is only so much you can actually hold onto in the end.
So proud of you! Amazing job! 🤗💕

@@violetviolet888 This amazing!! Thank you for this info Violet!! This is incredible and a wonderful way to give back too!! 🙏❤️🤗and personally I will do that from now on in my personal collection☺️
I will say that in stores we can’t do that due to store policies and codes; and it’s a security issue too. So most if not all the time they dump it and destroy it; and crush it when they get rid of things. It’s wasteful but it’s their policies and procedures.
You did a fantastic job Michelle. Can't wait for pt. 2!!
You honestly just made me feel so much better about the amount of time I keep makeup for. Nothing too out of control but definitely past the manufacturer recommendation date ☺️
I hope more makeup brands move to refillable packaging to decrease waste. More Responsible business practices by corporations and consumption practices by consumers will go a long way toward ameliorating the climate crisis. Love that you are tossing what’s old and regifting what can still be enjoyed by someone else. Happy New Year 🎉
I just got my coffee ready, Saturday morning starting to look good!
It blows my mind how you remember each product so distinctly - impressive! Love your channel ❤
You've blessed us with 1 hour & 35 mins of a Michele declutter!?? BRB. I needed some good old black coffee to fully enjoy your relaxing declutter session. I've been going through one myself (clothes/perfumes/makeup/skincare) and I'm still hesitant to get rid of a dress I never could fit into.
Wow, you really went in there and cleaned up! That must have been difficult, but also freeing. It's so nice to have space to actually put things in order. It's very satisfying to watch!
I'm decluttering. As i watch you declutter. Super motivating
Every time you declutter makeup, I declutter my closet! Goodwill will get a visit from me tomorrow!
Hi Michele - I feel your pain when it comes to letting go of old favourites. I just found out that Nordstrom Rack has a beauty recycling program where they have bins in their stores and they will recycle it all for you! Not sure if you knew but I have loved taking mine there.
Great to know, thanks!
I didn’t know that either. Sadly I declutter a lot because I don’t really have anyone to pass to.

It’s a TerraCycle program and it’s awesome! You can get a box for home too - the small box lasts me about a year.
This is my favourite video! I have just finished going through my make-up.....after watching this I'm going to go and start again and be more ruthless! Bravo!! 🥰💝xx
Wow, that was painful, so kudos to you Michele for sticking to it and getting it done! Looking forward to your organizing video 👏🏻👏🏻
SO glad you kept all the meteorites!! There are whispers that Guerlain is reformulating them….if it’s true, hopefully they don’t massacre them like Chanel did to their blushes 😰🫣😭
oh my goodness, I’m too excited for this video! xx
This was so relaxing to watch. Loved every second of this ❤
I declutter now and then. Then I find myself wanting to try something new. The cycle begins again. Good job decluttering 🙌🍁🍂🤗!
Yes, we have to end the cycle. Hopefully influencers will lead the way
“As if I don’t have enough blush” -girl, same! 😂 and highlighter. But I try so hard not to buy blush and then when I keep track of my consumption what do I end up getting more of? Blush! I just have too many favorites to pair down my collection even more! Though I’m very good about getting rid of stuff when it’s time. Especially cream stuff. Sending love! ❤
This is one of the most ruthless declutters I have seen. Such quick decision making.
Perfect timing! I am doing a massive closet overhaul (ugh)….you will be excellent company for me!
I've been watching your videos for a few years and it's nice to catch up on products I've seen you use before
I have started to put small date stickers on all my products as soon as I get them and it has worked very well. Just a regular tiny circle stickers from Office Depot they come in different colors.
I do the same and it so makes a difference
I have been thinking of doing this. Thanks for sharing
Way to go, Michele. I’ve watched many of your declutter videos and you are doing so good. You are inspiring me. I also watched Tati and she was very convincing when she wouldn’t show her eye. I’m trashing so much.
The thumbnail cracked me up 😂. You look so bummed out in a cute way 😄❤️
Looking forward to part 2. Your makeup collection is prodigious!
I just did my declutter and my sister and nieces benefit it. They loved products.
Your declutters are treat to watch😍 because of the lovely collection you have ❤
michele what a fantastic job , very proud of you , i know how much it must hurt and memories our makeup holds for us but like Tati no point in making ourselves ill for beauty , looking forward for part 2 , my love liz x
YYEEESSSS please! Love your declutters!
I love your voice……..it’s so soothing. Declutters are soooooo hard but soooooo good.
Ok I literally paused the video 25 mins in, did a lipstick declutter and now I am back. Pains but had to be done! Thank you!!
It's so satisfying to watch purge videos lol :)
I'm so excited. I haven't even watched yet and I'm so happy! I LOVE declutter videos and I love your makeup so YAY!
Popped your declutter into my morning kitchen chore and enjoying it so much. It's great to see to hear your thoughts on some older products in retrospektive.
Thanks for this video. I’m going to move in a few months and need to declutter and throw away old make up, so this is a great inspiration to appreciate some products and then toss them. I love how you had a relationship with all of the items.
This is so inspiring to watch. I actually decluttered my makeup. It was much needed ❤
The Guerlain special edition!!! Ok - I cried for you, with you but alas, thank you for the time with your fans.
Michele can you share details about your glasses you’re wearing? LOVE them!!
You have inspired me to go thru my bronzers and blushes. I have the hardest time getting rid of them. I've already gone thru foundations, concealers and eye shadow palettes. And I've GOT to go thru lipstick which is my absolute weakness.
Can you maybe use a sharpie in different colors or dot stickers so you know what year something came into your collection.
When you get to the Chanel Camelia highlighter I may have said “don’t you dare!!!” Out loud ….. 🤣🤣🤣
Love the video!!
This video is really giving me inspiration to sort through my 'stash' - thank you for being so bold!
Wow! That was a workout! Lol! Can't wait for part two.
Wow! Over an hour of Michele! Loved it! You really went hard. Good work.❤
Just a suggestion, but what if you grouped the products in each category by color family? For example in the blush drawer you would have all powder coral blushes together irrespective of brand. This may help you further de clutter based on shade overlap.
What also helps with decluttering is ranking the blushes. Now I only want to use the blushes I love the most.
Right. Go the extra step and look at what‘s left, then decide which products will be used and which will not be. They won‘t just sit there and get old, and maybe someone can use them.
I always think this as well. I also think it would be easier to pick a blush for the day when having this many options if you grouped them by color and formula.
I have two cup of coffee while watching this video. I would like to be your assistant lol.
Thank you Michele.❤️❤️❤️
this is somewhat nauseating consumerism. I know it is an actual job, but seeing that pile in the thumbnail made me lament at how many Women in Shelters who would be grateful to get it
I love watching declutters! Declutters are fun to watch.🤗 I have a disturbing obsession with collecting lip products. 🤣
This has just convinced me to try out chantecaille and cle de pau because you keep keeping products I'm interested in.
This video was so satisfying and very Marie kondo esque 💝
It's impressing that you know how old the makeup are. I have a small collection but I keep track of the expiration dates on an excel sheet.
What if you used the limited edition products as decor??? Like on small clear or wall shade shelves in neat rows on one wall of your office? Is that tacky? They're beautiful and they bring joy!
I should declutter my makeup drawers today as well! I'm excited!
Keep it going Michele. Riding is freeing! Less is more and soooooooo on !!!!!
Omg 😳 as a total makeup junkie I would die and go to heaven to get my hands on that !!!!!
I watched till the very end and loved every second ❤❤. Can’t wait for part 2
Great job Michele!! I saw so many things you decluttered that I have and it made me think should I be throwing away too. 😆 Definitely got me in the declutter mood for this weekend! Some things were hard to watch go bye bye but if it old it’s time. Can’t wait for part 2! 😊❤️

Omg yes! Just what I needed. Love your content so much! Greetings from Holland 🛍💄
I did the same after Atari’s video! Now I actually find getting ready so much more relaxing
I always feel motivated when I watch these type of vids, or is it guilt 😅😅
It's really highlighted, to me, the ridiculousness of just how much makeup is accumulated, rarely use and, therefore, wasted. I'm going to make a very, VERY determined effort to be much more mindful of my purchases henceforth.
I wish ALL brands would thin out their launches. They used to be seasonal and the collections were much smaller.
My landfill contributions are going to be greatly reduced - yippppppeeeeeeee 😊
Love ya, 💗💗💗
You should put the pretty packaged ones, even if old, in a makeup display on top. Like the pretty Chantecaille with the pearls on top. Lisa Eldridge keeps old makeup just for show. It would make a pretty back drop or a filmed opener for your videos ;-)
Michelle, how did you know this is the motivation I needed!! 💜
Michele, you should pat your back! Great job on doing this brutal declutter. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Marie Kondo must be very proud 😁
Love declutters😂😂😂 I also watched Tati, so scary. Specially for you guys that are testing stuff out for all of us😳
Thank you, Michele, for the greatest thumbnail ever ❤
TerraCycle sells boxes for recycling makeup containers which might be good for these declutters!
I always look forward to your declutter videos. I’m curious just how much of my favorite products make the cut 😄
Best declutter video I have watch! Thank you Marie from Montreal a new subscriber
It is so heartbreaking...makeup is such an impulse buy. "ooh so pretty', "ooh limited edition", and of course , the fomo attached. I would LOVE if I could get myself to 1-2 brands and limit myself to those products and actually USE them up before re purchasing. I am a lipstick junkie....and have waaaay too many. I am really trying to actually use my eyeshadow palettes....but again...so hard to get rid of....
Maybe a new years resolution.....Hmmm...
Yes the fomo is unreal esp when beauty influencers are hyping it up online
Thank you for a very enjoyable declutter! It was lovely seeing all the limited edition products you have! Also I'm just a nosy bish! Lol! Luv u Michelle!💝💖💗
You are killing me throwing away the Chantecaille hummingbird powder. I did buy the flower power one but searched everywhere to get the hummingbird. I just love the container. LOL
Love your declutters... think your's are the best..... it was a lovely way way to spend an hour
I saw that Tati video, too, and it also motivated me to declutter. I had never given a thought to expired makeup until I heard her talk about her eye infection. 😱
