  • I've been wanting one for a long time and I finally had the opportunity to get one. Having a thermal camera ads a lot of benefits to the carb tuning process. We'll explore those in this video and talk about this camera by Reed.

Cool tool but I wish you had gone into using these for carb tuning.

Where these cameras earn their investment back is electrical stuff. A hot spot in a wiring bundle or failing firewall connector? Caught. Things you cannot access at all like ignition coil internals? Thermal condition can't hide. Other handy things? Bearings: - wheel, pinion, idler arms, etc I love these thermal cameras.

Use this type of camera at work, electricians will use it during service of electrical panels, to identify hot spots. Interesting to see how you'll be able to use it.

It’s going to be nice to have it available when chasing issues!

I just used my 1.5X thermal eyeful scope to look at my breaker panel. I had plugged-in a 1500 watt heater and let it run for about five minutes. I was able to pick the correct breaker to turn-off and all my clocks were not blinking 12 : 00.

This is the first one I’ve owned and I’m finding all sorts of other uses for it. Carb tuning is what I’m most eager to get busy with!

The older type cameras of a couple decades back came with a helpful emissivity guide - which if you lost...good luck: correcting factor for whatever material type you were shooting had to be dialed in manually. Brass, aluminum or steel all have different values.

@@flinch622 this one doesn’t seem to be near as sensitive to an incorrect setting compared to one’s I’ve used in the past. But you’re right. At least having easy access to the internet these days saves a lot of heartburn if you lose the guide.

Thought I mentioned we’d be using it in the future in some tuning videos.
