    Thanks for this! Yes, it is complicated and I do appreciate you taking the time to help make it clear. One of the things that was not made clear and your video was do you have to have a sterling or a larger plan to be eligible for the $50 a month or can you just buy the gear and sign up for $50 a month for a couple of three months while traveling.

      I'm glad it was helpful. Figured it was a good thing to do while I was paying for both plans at the same time 🤑.

    Wouldn't you know it. Starlink has already made a change to the plans since I made this video just a week ago. In Motion use is now officially supported with the Starlink Standard service plan without needing to enable the $2/GB priority data. However, the price of the plan is now $165/mo (vs $150/mo). Seems like someone at Starlink was watching this video 😜. Check out plan details at www.starlink.com/us/service-plans.

      So, with the updated plans, would you choose the Standard Gen3 over the Mini?
      Or does the size of the Mini & built-in router make it a better choice for its ease of portability?
      I just purchased the Standard Gen3 last week to use with our 5th wheel & possibly at home.
      I was considering adding the Mini just for the fact that it had the option of the $50 50gb plan.
      Now that it's available with any dish I am not sure I would have a need for the mini.

      @@BradLMN since any of the Roam service plans can be used with any of the Starlink satellites, I'll probably try to stick with the Mini for size, DC power, and built-in router. But I'm not sure which service plan - 50GB or Roam - Regional plan. I'm doing some traveling and will continue to test and share my PoV. I think I need to get more experience to have a strong opinion.

      Thank you for the reply.
      With us being new to Starlink we are just trying to figure out the best use case for our needs.
      We have cable internet at home & our seasonal spot for the 5th wheel. It would be nice to eliminate one or both of those by using Starlink. Plus, the added portability of the service.
      We have a hotspot we use for the rv when traveling & starlink will be a good addition to that.
      The only issue I can see is if I roof mount the dish at home, then it wouldn't be as easily accessible to take down & bring with for the rv.
      Looks like the tripod mount would be a good solution for traveling with the rv.
      Thank you for the informative content & I will definitely be subscribing to follow your journey with Starlink & more.

    Can I use mini with mobility plan as well?
    We are going to cross the Atlantic with a small boat, and we have budget and place for the mini!?
    Thank you for your answer! 🙏

    Here in the UK, much the same plans. However, we were on the verge of getting the Gen 3 to use at home and when away in our RV as we leave our home empty and so do not need any internet there. We now cannot get Residential and switch to roam when away and the unlimited roam cost has gone up significantly and for the mini is just too much.
    Maybe things will change and the mini could be made available for residential at a reasonable cost, here’s hoping.

    Nice informative video. Let’s say you go over 50gb do you automatically start paying $1 per gig? And if so, once you get near 165gb can you switch over to the $165 plan so you don’t go over $165 for the month? Or when do you have to switch plans by- before you hit 50gb or anytime after?

      That's a great question. Here's what the Starlink FAQs say:
      Change to higher cost plan: The change will be effective immediately. You will be charged a pro-rated cost dependent on the plan monthly cost difference and time remaining on your current billing cycle.
      Change to a lower cost plan: Your current service plan will remain the same, and your new service plan will take effect at the start of your next billing cycle. You will be charged the new monthly service cost at the start of your next billing cycle.

      There is a toggle selection in Settings that you need to enable to have more than 50 GB at $1/GB, or it will just cut off. You can switch to the $165 plan and there is prorating and credit for existing plan payments combined, up to the end of the current billing period, but someone else can provide better details on that. You would never pay more than $165 unless you forgot to upgrade as you approached 165GB.

    Great analysis. Excellent data what-ifs. So it's all about the use case. One question... having viewed both your videos on the comparisons, I understand that in areas where there are more trees, the "Standard" does fair considerably better than the mini because of the larger surface area. Just wondering if you have found that to be the case?

    • @banthaoverland
      @banthaoverland  4 месяца назад

      I haven't noticed a difference so far between the two but I'll do some additional testing. Both of them seem to work flawlessly with a clear view of the sky. And both seem to have an increasing likelihood of intermittent connection drops with more obstructions like trees.

    I have the mini with the original $30/ mo 5GB no interruption in service allowed. Can I switch to the unlimited plan for one month and get the $30/mo plan back? Expect to do a lot of streaming for a week that could blow up the data usage that month.

    • @banthaoverland
      @banthaoverland  4 месяца назад

      Good question. I'm not as familiar with the $30 add on plan and if you can switch to other plans and back again. You'd have to check with Starlink,

    Can you use mini in residential only?

    • @banthaoverland
      @banthaoverland  4 месяца назад

      I don't think you can use it with the Standard plan with is the residential "fixed location" plan. But you could certainly use the Mini at your house. The Starlink Standard hardware is on sale for $299 right now and it has faster download speeds in my side by side testing ruclips.net/video/p3s8OzNBS8c/видео.html. So it's seems like getting the Starlink Standard hardware and Standard service plan would be cheaper if you're only using it at home. But it might be worth checking with Starlink if you have additional questions.

    How do they define regional?

    • @jontreese8677
      @jontreese8677 4 месяца назад +2

      It's by continent. If ordered in North America, it can be used anywhere in North America. Same for the other continents. So, a "region" is pretty large.
