    Thank you for sharing. Though I would share. I just discovered how to make my own waxed thread. Running the thread through Bees Wax helped to strengthen it when pulling. Thank you again.

    So very helpful! I haven been sewing since 1949 but I have never made a pin cushion! I have my walnut shells but have been puzzled on just how to stiff them in. No longer! Thanks! New subbie, too.

    Great idea for the shells.. I've always used rice, but now I just feel like I'm wasting food and money... Sand is good too, but not from the beach.. 💜

      Lizard litter is available at Petsmart and other big chain pet stores. It’s just crushed walnut shells like this. Don’t let your lizard do their business in it, first, tho🤪

    Hi. What kind of shells do you use to stuff the pin cushion?

  • @louisaalexander803
    @louisaalexander803 2 года назад

    Thank you so much for that clear and simple demonstration. I am going to stuff (re-stuff) some of those little old metal shoe pin cushions. I have all the supplies but cannot decide if I should create a bag that fits into the entire shoe including the toe, or just make a bag that fits into the oval shoe opening. Thoughts?

      I have a couple of those too. My plan is to use a large wool ball, but I need to cut the bottom off of it which is where the challenge comes in. I may or may not cover the ball with fabric.
      I don't see any great way of stuffing them with my own template without a ton of trial and error. But I have great confidence in you! 😉

    Very helpful tips...tell me please: Is it ok to use rice or steel wool to stuff? I was thinking steel wool wrapped in fiberfill because I heard the steel wool will keep the pins sharp (?). I want to make pincushions for gifts...it will be my first time making them as well as teaching myself to use a sewing machine. So you can see I know nothing and I'm full of questions :) I really do like the look and sound of the walnut shells, though...and my other question was answered about buying them on your website. Thank you.

    • @sewnwyoming4878
      @sewnwyoming4878  3 года назад +14

      you can stuff pincushions with anything you like. but, as shared in the video, i prefer walnut shells bc they do not attract mice/bugs, and they do not rust the pins. the choices you are considering will result in one or more of those issues.
      hope that helps

      I buy the crushed walnut shell at the pet store. It is cheaper than ordering them.

    • @isaemann8638
      @isaemann8638 2 года назад +2

      @@almahall2936 That’s right, cheaper at pet stores. I went to a few pet stores around where I live. Most of them do not sell it. However one store does carry it but the crushed walnuts were mixed with other stuff. So I did not buy it.
      I made pincushions with balled up tinfoil wrapped with polyester batting. That works too! Pins are as sharp as can be! 😊
