If Nick can get through the second verse of this song you can get through whatever you're going through right now.
Thanks man.. great words
What’s the song about? I’m assuming he suffered some kind of loss.
@@Him_Downstairs36 his son died in 2015
@@pantalaemon damn wow 😔
@@Him_Downstairs36 @pantalaemon one of Cave’s twin sons, died following a fall from a cliff in East Sussex in the summer of 2015, aged just 15. Cave turning to his work to write the furiously emotional sixteenth Bad Seeds studio album Skeleton Tree. This song is next to the end of the album.
Warren's violin outro is utterly heartbreaking.
Else Torp is outstanding, the lyrics are outstanding but when Warren's violin starts to play my eyes ..., btw who's cutting onions?
Bless my child. Off into the distant sky, face to the rising sun, eyes unseeing yet reflecting that golden light. Always loved and forever 19. I will be there soon my beloved one.
THANK GOD that there's an audience for this type of music!!! Most of the people in my life cannot appreciate the beauty, albeit dark, that's not trying to sell you something or be aural wall paper to suit your drab, gray existence.
This is very sweet. I feel exactly the same 💜
We're here
Sinner Train = very hard to say more !! Your words are just perfect. thanks for the message
We are armed against our doom. Compassion and love.
One of the purest forms of humanity is grief. There is beauty in it.
Cried throughout this whole song and still crying after. I’ve been a music fanatic my entire life and I’ve never found an artist that speaks to me on the level Nick Cave does.
He has that effect on people. At least he does on certain kinds of people.
Kate Bush?
@beingjoshmc Me too!!! Well said mate.
Listen to this band called Bad Knights. They have the one album called 'Letters to Everybody'. Some slow ones, others rockier...but such depth, rawness and meaning in every song. Grows and grows on you.
The lead singers voice is quite something too.

Life imitates Art. I am sat at my son's bedside in Dorset County Hospital where he is in Palliative Care, listening to this. It's truly great Art and excellent musicianship but it's the well of emotion in Nick's eyes that I recognise. So moving.......................
I'm so sorry Keith. Words are inadequate - especially from a stranger. Please find solace + beauty wherever you can. Aroha. X
No one other can paint darkness so beautiful.
Hundreds of thousands times I heard this wonder, one of the best compositions of all times, My respect and love for you Nick!
Yes.
😊
A truly selfless piece of art. Nick has chosen to grieve in the open, knowing that it will help countless people to mourn and hopefully wake for another day. That’s enough to be thankful for.
six minutes and twenty-eight seconds of magical celebration of loss, pain and love ...
I think the same
I really like the arrangement of the lyrics in this version -- where Nick sings his first verse, Else sings both of hers, and then Nick sings his second verse. That ending is just devastating.
Perfect song for picking up some coffee
Lmao, and visiting Superman’s grave 😂
??????
@@annebritraaen2237 he’s referring to the „lois lane coffee scene“ which feat. this very song in zack snyder’s justice league
I like it here
You don’t miss a day, do you?
Its horrible to see nick struggle in the second verse i cant imagine the pain he is going through
That scene in ZSJL with this amazing song took me to another world..emotional ❤
This is the most beautiful piece of music I have ever heard
sometimes, rarely, but sometimes, the music goes beyond itself, we enter into a moment of Grace. This is the case here.
This is just unbelievably emotional to watch. What a powerful statement of love in the face of loss. Of beauty and hope juxtaposed against disillusionment and dispair. When Nick stood up from the piano to sing the final lines, I , like him, was overcome. Just absolutely stunning. Thank you Nick and the Bad Seeds for this--just amazing.
Why do you consider this as a "statement of love in the face of loss"?
@@jasam123 Love is in the first line of the lyrics. The loss is of faith (and other things, by implication). But you also can't separate this song from what happened in Mr Cave's personal life. In that context, this song becomes even more beautiful and tragic.
They say Johnray, Mate, that the two strongest emotions are love and grief. Nick Cave summed up both in this song and so did you in your comments. Well done.
anonimni youtube: Yours is an old comment, granted. Who knows what you or anybody thinks a year hence? Just curious - were you digging in to the comment to explore what Mr Fuller was really thinking, or were you intentionally rejecting the rather straightforward point that Nick was singing about the son he loved but lost? The message couldn't be clearer, frankly. Someone's missing something here. It might be me but this time, Nah...
Gives me chills.
Absolutely stunning and so incredibly beautiful and moving. Else Torp is such a lovely modest smiling wonderful accomplished accompanist, and Nick and Else and the band moved this song into the realm of Gods for me, and if this isn't one of the best concert performances ever then I don't know what is. Just wonderful. The whole concert blew me away but this to me was the highlight.
Distant Sky
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Let us go now, my one true love
Call the gasman, cut the power out
We can set out, we can set out for the distant skies
Watch the sun, watch it rising in your eyes
Let us go now, my darling companion
Set out for the distant skies
See the sun, see it rising
See it rising, rising in your eyes
They told us our gods would outlive us
They told us our dreams would outlive us
They told us our gods would outlive us
But they lied
Let us go now, my only companion
Set out for the distant skies
Soon the children will be rising, will be rising
This is not for our eyes
Incredible performance by all concerned.Just pure emotion from start to finish.Epic from Warren at the end as well.
Zack Snyder's Justice League brought me here. Thank God! This is music for the soul.
I strongly believe Snyder was influenced by the passing of his daughter Autumn, so much so a few songs in the movie like this and Song for the Siren are featured perfectly throughout the film.
Agreed - "For Autumn" are the words at the beginning of the end credits. Recently I experienced the loss of a loved one. Those moments in the movie, together with the soundtracks you mention, were deeply touching. I think the same can be said for anyone that has or is experiencing loss.
@@lnvrtd absolutely, I'm so sorry for your loss. I recently lost my grandfather and I understand that music is truly a gift from God. It cleanses, heals and lifts our soul out of the darkness. Wish you the best fellow stranger, stay golden
James Speer my sincerest condolences James. Thank you so much - the same for you ✨
Me tooo
Me too wow
Who the hell comes here to dislike this?
Seriously people, have a word with yourselves.
I read somewhere that this is beauty that should never have needed to exist, I agree with that, however it has enriched humanity also. Beyond beautiful.
The violin bit at the end is lovely.
Just saw him live and I will never be the same. He touched me so deeply.
I saw them in San Diego on this tour. The range of emotions they can elicit from you is extraordinary just simply performing a concert! Amazing.
The Best!!! Nothing better than Nick cave live..
he is the only one who could sing a phone book and i would cry about it...
She's amazing.
Stunning
I was lucky enough to be at this gig and the goose bumps and tears that I had then are here again watching this beautiful piece of music. There's nothing else to add; it's simply Nick cave & The Bad Seeds (and Vanja Stijepovic Else Torp) at their awesome best!
Alzate le mani al cielo, c'e' Nick Cave 💜Magico, immenso, straordinario, ipnotico, carismatico. Artista unico e inimitabile. Grande e sconfinato
So sorry for your loss....but thank you for this
Saw this entire concert at the movies and it's one of the most amazing live concerts I've ever seen... Amazing setlist, incredibly moving and powerful performance. There's a CD of it, but I really hope it's released on DVD!
I love how the audience are just watching and listening.
Awesome..... once again Warren reduces me to tears.... Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, music of my life x
Beyond beautiful.
Snyder’s JL brought me to this masterpiece. I was completely blown away by Torp’s voice,
Yea i heard the song in zsjl as well . A beautiful song
Her voice! My body is filled with goosebumps.
Would bring a tear to a glass eye.
😢 bellísima interpretación
How often do you have chills by watching a show online, one you never attended too? That's only a fragment of his prowess.
I was there and it was a magnificent evening
What a song, so amazing.
This is everything 💗💗💗
Pure raw heartfelt quality.
Tears in my eyes...
Breath taking, heart breaking beautiful
Which people are disliking this?? I'm sorry but it seems for me they are heartless and very cold ones.... I truly can't understand it! Such an beautiful piece of art, full of pure emotions. ❤️👌🏻💎👌🏻
Niemals zuvor soviel Emotionen und Tränen vergeben wahnsinnig intensiv
Finally I found a song that sounds like my state of spirit...
Great artist
Moving beyond words.
It's so good that he has found his kirsty mccoll. She adds something that suits him so well
This is perfection.
i love this song
Well, here's the thing.
I was always aware of Mr Cave, but not really paying attention.
I came across 'God is in the House', then 'Love Letter' bought some CDs Nocturama being my favourite...'Wonderful Life' and 'Are you the One' came next, and I thought that was as good as it gets, but now this blows it all out the water.
I have honestly never seen anything as heartfelt as this, I don't know what else to say.
There's something in my eye...
The beauty of sadness
i´ve never seen a video that makes me cry so fast..
A True Masterpiece!!!
Wow... so great. I want to send this to my boyfriend of 26 years. We are apart for now.... crying here now....
This is beautiful and so overwhelming, it will transfix me through and through every day
Troyes in France
This makes me cry every time. So beautiful
Healing power of words and music ♥
I imagine this song, in this very version, is playing at the gates of heaven.
Tomorrow I'll see them live in Istanbul!
Enjoy the concert for me

SimsSs88 there's about 30 minutes left. They're soundchecking right now and I've heard Nick mummbling something in distance already!
el violin es hermoso, dibuja la canción...me emociona hasta lagrimas

Was lucky enough to see this tour in Manchester, simply stunning
Same was amazing!
washing my eyes from inside to out
Awesome track, dark, melodic and haunting. can anyone explain the story, is it two lovers who have taken their lives together and left their children behind? So emotional.
But they lied...
la musica dell'anima. La mia anima che si lascia attraversare. Grazie Nick.
MIO DIO QUANTO CIELO

Nick Cave et sa voix chaude J adore j adhère j aime beaucoup
Apaixonante!

Pure emotion!
I don’t come on RUclips a lot, and when I do, for reasons of seeking information about something specific, and I read the comments, I immediately remember why I don’t frequent it’s comments section.
It honestly feels like people are here to either be fakely ‘quirkly’, or to sounsd as vile as possible, and appear as someone so grotesque, as to lack humanity.
A lots of these last group of people, seem invariably to be male.
Then there are Nick Cave fans, a lot of whom seem invariably to be male. These men, help me remember immediately, that most men are truly good people, who I actually like.
A simple comment about a simple context, but I’m hear to say thank you, for restoring my faith in humanity.
strange way to see the world
Wunderschön. GÄNSEHAUT pur!!!
Warren Ellis destroyed me when I heard this in person. I was just a weeping mess. Still am.
I wish the crowd would be quiet till the end of the song.
Not really a "woooo" "yeah!!" kind of number.
Only 364 days (instead of 30!) left before Nick comes to O2 london, due to Covid 19. Can't wait, but wouldn't it be nice if he put out a DVD of this fabulous show to keep us going until then !
Extraordinario 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👃
It have been on repeat for hours. :) So beautiful!
Nick plays his sorrow
