I left by the back door With my wife's lover's smoking gun I don't know what I was hoping for I hit the road at a run I was your lover I was your man There never was no other I was your friend Till we came along this road Till we came along this road Till we came along this road I ain't sent you no letters, Ma But I'm looking quite a trip The world spinning beneath me, Ma Guns blazing at my hip You were my lover You were my friend There never was no other I hope you understand Till we came along this road Till We came along this road Till We came along this road
I am hooked on this at the moment. I love so many N.C songs, but what I love is the way I move through them all, getting hooked on just one for a week. Then move onto the next that catches my ear, my mind, my soul. Thanks for putting it out there.
Magnificent performance of a fabulous song. This whole concert is magnificent - you can get it on DVD. 'I left by the back door, with my wife's lover's smoking gun...' - what an opening line. Love the little smile from Nick to Conway Savage at the end too.
I remember buying this DVD and playing it for the first time. I feel like it was a little before RUclips and you could look up whatever you wanted. It was a big deal to see my hero right in front of me. And this is one of my favourite songs ever.
It's such an amazing concert - every song performance is just fantastic. Would so love to have been there! I have the DVD too and never tire of watching it.
I pretty much knew Nick from this concert, I had only heard Into My Arms and watched the Songwriters Circle special on youtube (because of John Cale) and I thought yeah this guy's alright, he's probably a folksie type balladeer, nothing really outstanding, but then I clicked on this concert and the guys rolled onstage wearing black suits and ties, Nick lit a cigarette and the opening chord to Do You Love Me? came in, the lights turned red and Nick began singing this manic, violent song in a possesed voice, what can I tell you I was hooked right then and there. Almost three years have gone and not I day goes by that I don't listen to his music.
@@alexvmw Thank you, I understand now. I didn't know Conway's name but I love all the music of Nick Cave and Conway will have been a big part of the things that I have heard
The audience is fantastic, no trying to grab nick when he's right up close just appreciating and getting lost in the beauty of the music and nick's voice.
Sublime, délicat et tellement profond ! L’atmosphère mélodique renforce la portée de la poésie si forte et mélancolique à la fois ! Je ne m en lasserai jamais! Merci Nick ! 4:42
it's always mind boggling for me realize that this is the same artist that wrote songs like Saint Huck (afterwards on the dvd). just shows you how extremely talented nick cave is.
This is from my all time favourite album. I suspect it will stay there 'forever'. First I included six songs from it to this top 600, but cut it down to four. Nick wasn't pleased with his piano playing on this tune, but that's what adds something extra for me. Maybe it's due to some lack in skill? I left by the back door With my wife's lover's smoking gun I don't know what I was hoping for I hit the road at a run I was your lover I was your man There never was no other I was your friend Till we came along this road

Absolutely one of his best. My #1 artist for so many reasons. The perfect combination of lyrics and arrangement. Always in awe of his music.
And that wonderful voice!

Is Nick a human or God is in the hause?
If there is a man that would make me turn gay, it's Warren Ellis.
