How this guy plays song after song in live sets is beyond me......This guy is an absolute fucking machine...
Speed, stamina, one footed blasts and CREATIVITY! 10/10
Shins of fucking steel..
single strokes all the way.. no mercy.. Dan presland for Pres..
7:01 ... I didn't see that coming.. That's pure genius :D
There's a black and white video of Derek Roddy doing it during the double bass run in Powers That Be from 2006. That was the first time I saw someone do it. It's an awesome idea.
Guys, he is not swapping between hi hat and kick there, he is using his hand to choke the hi-hat to simulate the pedal so he can keep the kicks going. That's what David was referring to. And he's bloody well right, genius move.
Black Emperor
That's what I was referring to in the old Derek Roddy video. I'm actually surprised more people don't do it. Still a great little technique.
***** The Infallible Emperor 1956 good song
Black Emperor Yup my thoughts exactly mate!
really what a bass line - amazing
RUclips: "Cygnusbass" - he's the bassist of neo and he has some playthroughs too :D
I will never play drums but watching these videos is very addicting
for all those who may say extreme drumming can't be musical and thoughtful and even tasteful...I really enjoyed this, even though not my first choice of genre to listen to, as a fellow drummer I was enthralled by his drumming, it is very layered, complex and fitting for the tune...Outstanding!!...I particularly enjoy the HH splash pattern that takes the song out at the end, a very "jazzy" touch to an extreme style tune.
Layered ? Ehhhh....... Jazzy? Ehhh no
Listen to death or even black flag
Like everything is sort of predictable it's more hard rock fill patterns and heavy blast beats with cymbal splash nothing insane
Just saw NeO live 2 days ago. Most impressive drummer I've seen to date. The guy is a machine!
3:42 hit the mic
4:14 blood
4:23 he doesn't even care
+Black Emperor I dont think he didnt care, @ 4:21 he's tearing up
HF man! First time hearing this dude and his band. Very impressive drumming you can hold your own bro. Nice organic sound to this band. Instant fan. \m/
From brazil!! It is The very best chanel of drumming
Absolutely brilliant. You might just be my current favorite drummer. In my 33 years alive I've listened to a TON of metal in every genre you can name from all around the world and I've heard maybe 3 guys who can match your skill level.
Jamie Saint Merat surpasses it and probably Proscriptor McGovern, Spencer Pewitt and Tomas Corn as well.
Man, after reaching certain level of skill there is no objective "worse" or "better", it's only a matter of their style and whether you like it more or less.
Can't imagine any actual song this dude won't be able to play. Just like the others you listed above. And a hundreds of other descent musicians.
Are they Jamie Saint Merat, George Kollias, and Blake Richardson?
Андрей Казаков agreed, unfortunately I do feel there is a skill difference and not just stylistic one. Also skill difference will be more noticeable once you start comparing with Jazz, fusion drummers and the like
I listen to this song probably 3-4 times a day on average, visualization the play through of all the instruments each time while driving... to see finally see it (my bad for waiting to look it up) is incredible. Btw this raw version of the backing tracking is interesting!!
Most impressive form and a great performance....and that set looks clean!! Literally!
9:00 Cat!
How you even spot that lol
Great band, and Dan is an amazing drummer. Their newest album is my album of the year.
Insane, very clean drumming all around. No obvious slip ups very consistent. This dude can definitely rip for sure
Dude you are my favorite drummer of all time! And your drums sound beautiful my friend!
verry nice , mezmerizing . verry insperational . fan already
4:27 omfg sooooo good
This guy is a machine.

I'm impressed and admired
\m/ \m/
fantastic stuff!
This guy has superior drummer metal package loops installed in his brain. Good...
Great ability to play.
Really nice to see a super fucking solid dude these days. :)
just great
So much yes
This guy and band have a new fan :0
4:27 aaah so good
Awesome.
🔥🔥🔥

fast violin + acoustic gitar + distortion + cosmic tone + seriosa+ technical + blackmetal voice + fast drumming.. fakyu.. genius band... !
I was the 666 like haha..good job...awesome band.
Nice
like that shirt man ;)
Friggen sick! Would love to know how many kick drum beats in a single song haha
Geoffrey Wall A LOT
He's struggling! BURN IT MAN FEEL THE BURN!
Not as much as you think he is! This man has a video of him maintaining 210bpm double bass for 10 minutes straight. You should also check his Xenoflux playthrough, truely amazing.
blrsycth He won an Australian WFD comp back in around 06 for kicks. He's truly a machine.
blrsycth 10 minutes straight? Dang, I wish I had that much dexterity.
It's all about learning how to optimize the smaller muscle groups in your legs/calves so less energy is used per stroke. That said, I wish I did too hahah
blrsycth Well ya, I've been playing for like five years so I get that haha. Just a little jelly that some guys do that as a warm-up, or use it as a daily routine. I just have to keep practicing, and practicing, and practicing.
No words
you guys write some good tunage
I better be this good at the end of my military career >:) GOT 20+ YEARS TO GO WOO hahaha
'Dan the Man!'
7:30 ❤️❤️❤️
My pants.. need to be changed..
Drummer be like "do you even double bass bro??!!"
Big fan of his drum size and cymbal choices. With today's amplification and triggering, there's no need for those nasty heavy cymbals that sound like sh*t.
what type of vic firth sticks do you use?
+Andrew Doud I think it's "SDCN" model
Is the other guy playing mario? @ 5:38 lol
+☢ ϻεтᴧʟʟıʗ ϻεтᴧʟʟεԇ ☠ I see NO mario! You're fucking dumb, its just a computer monitor.
ProgressiveMetalRules \m/ I mean that by hearing and not seeing
Jealousy of the drum god is real
My God the bass drum stamina is insaneee. Can't stand the dirty vocals doe
Most of it is great work! but why the hurry ?
?
Great drummer clearly.. but oh boi I hate watching drummer that don't hit. If that kick drum wasn't triggered I swear you'd never hear it!
That's just fucking silly really.
Alex Z what is
Double bass through whole song is boring.
wellllllll my friend. Lucky for you there's 70 more minutes of double bass to choose from on the album!
cygnusbass hah. I gotta say, Citadal is too short imo. I loved the long tracks on Portal.
Normally I would totally agree with you and I sorta do here, but I think he does enough creative cymbal accents that it sorta balances it all.
It's not fault of the double drum but the rest of the song...
at least its not start stop blasts every 4 bars. sick of that shit. this flows
I can not stand about 99% of black metal vocals.
Sick to see someone in metal repping Zildjians. seems like everyone is on Meinl and Sabian.
and the E-kit triggers? they are the only ones that actually work on shitty modules.
9 min of boooooorign blast beat. I'm so tired to listen a metal drummer with out anny imagination.
no imagination? nice joke.
Very light player, no complex fills or patterns
Nick Tolias no u
Extremely solid drumming. I thought the music was almost unbearably awful though. Must be the tightest wear mark I've ever seen on a snare!
nothing special, new.....
innovation?
great playing. terrible music
