For me, nothing beats the original L'Homme Ideal EDT. Ideal cologne is my favorite flanker with Extreme being a close second. Another great video, Marc, in Robes we trust.

Perfectly put! Quality for price you pay... It may not be the most groundbreaking line but it is very decent designer especially compared to other designer releases :)

I do like this line and the Extrême is my favourite, although I really love the Cologne, EDT and EDP as well. To me, my humble opinion, these are miles above the Initios of the World, even being the more comercial line from the beloved Guerlain. Thanks for the video, awesome work as always! 😁
With you there. Initio and PdM are just...bad. Well done designers like a good Guerlain or Dior are always more interesting, complex and artful. PdM and Initio are just oversweetened cloying swill for people with too much money and not enough experience or knowledge of fragrances

There are aspects to the L’Homme Ideal line that are beguiling and even strange(the good kind). They can present themselves as being well constructed, mainstream and pleasing for mass consumption yet there are moments when they can surprise the wearer with their uniqueness. The cherry/almond/leather accords in the EDP can sometimes morph into something oddly animalic, like a cola steeped fur pelt. Or the chili peppers in the Intense can become pungent to the point of seemingly being an overdose. And then…they revert right back into being polite and acceptable! I love this house and am glad you did this review.
I do agree with the subtle nuances on some of these that keep them interesting! Thank you so much for your take!
I got a sample of the new ideal parfum and ordered a bottle as soon as I smelled it …. Might want to give that one a try , it’s pretty dang good

My journey almost started with this line. Think I went Pure Tonka, Pure Malt, ADG Profondo and then L'Homme Ideal EDP as my first 4 when getting into the game. Love this Extreme and think the EDT is a must to try out! Might be my favorite for its simplicity and slight freshness over some of the flankers save the summer editions. Looking forward to seeing your reaction to the OG. Appreciate this post and the inspirational humility and transparency of displaying an 'off-day as a reviewer' though think you summed it up well nonethless! Thanks for walking us through this one, Marc!
Love seeing your journey in my comments section, Pure Malt is a standout and great scent to start off. We all have our days and it can't be perfect as content creators, sometimes instead of scrapping the video you just ride with it.
Great video as always Marc. I'm happy to see another Guerlain on your channel. In my opinion it's a very good one, probably not the best from the Ideal lineup but I'm enjoying it quite a lot. Maybe even in my top 3 of all Ideal flankers, but Cologne is still the best for me. ;) I think there are few more that you're missing - Sport which I didn't enjoy all that much and I think it has been discontinued already, Parfum that I haven't had a chance to try yet and Platine Prive or something like this. Original edt is still one of the good ones, so as a collector I think you should check it.
I did miss that I have Sport to unbox, it's the 50ml and the box was hiding behind another so I was wrong in the video. I think the OG is next for me and then move forward to the newest ones.
Marc, you've gotta make a video intro that's not obnoxiously loud hs. love the videos! Also please get the OG EDT, its one of the best in the line

This is by far my favorite desginer from Guerlain. I also got the Parfum recently and it´s also very cool, on another level. The nose is subjective, too bad you do not like it so much, but it´s ok. Take care !

Tonka is so iconic for Guerlain I would also assume it is really Tonka.
Smelling Tonka Beans with closed eyes really resembles Marzipan/Almonds.

Excellent video as always Marc. I have the the new L'Homme ideal extreme (sliver label). Smells good, 7-8 hours. If there was a reformulation, it didn't kill it. I also recently got L'Homme ideal Platine Prive since I always missed out on the fresher flankers and it's also great. You should definitely get the EDT. Even the new bottles smell great.
The EDT is already in a basket online, we will see if I pull the trigger on that mega haul lol

This won't be popular, but I am a HUGE fan of the original EDT, which has been culled so i know I was in the minority. My second favorite was the Cologne and thank goodness I have backups of both 😁 My third is the EDP, which I also have backed up, but I suspect it will be the longest-lived of the entire line.
I may just need to get that OG, many lovers of it in the comments.
@@robes08 A lot of its critics found it "juvenile" - I personally do not. I think there was a lot of dammed-up criticism waiting for it as I believe it was Wasser's first new line as the in-house nose, and I have no doubt that he was tasked with developing some new "modern" lines, which those critics were going to inevitably brand anything that varied from the old school Guerlain classics as "juvenile."
For me, it's obvious it was the parent to the EdP flanker (it's so similar I never understood the hate it got compared the the EdP love) - the almond is more prominent and with the accord of the other notes it opens with an almost boozy strength, but that mellows relatively quickly into what I believe is a great, versatile men's scent that I really like and just wish more others did 😁- I think the negativity was too baked-in for all the hype of the EdP to save it unfortunately.

I have the same bottle as you. Black cap with red label. I can say that I also owned the newer one, black cap with silver label and there is a little bit of a difference to my nose. The newer one plum is brighter but doesn't last as long as the black cap and red label. My nose is basic so that's about the only difference I can tell lol

I'm a big fan of this line. I'm fortunate to have the original Red cap. This is definitely the best of the line, followed by Cologne/PP and the OG EDT.
I think I need that EDT in my life.

Some Italian smells great.
Huge Guerlain fan, but not really a fan of the Ideal line. I do like the latest Parfum version though & might get a full bottle later in the year. Sampled all 3 new Parfums & got a full bottle of Vetiver Parfum (that one is magic). The new Habit Rouge is great too, but not quite as good as the og or Prive, imo.
I can't wait to get my nose on those new ones, I'm usually 2-3 years away from smelling new releases so I'll see you in 2026 on my unboxing of the parfum editions lol
I had this one but got bored of it after a while. I had the original with the red cap. It's definitely a great fragrance, but i prefer the EDT & I'ntense
I can see that, I feel like this line is solid but also I feel especially with a collection like mine they often get overlooked for SOTD.
The extreme and the og are 95% identical to my nose. That's why I was quite disappointed when the extreme came out. I though to myself, where the hell is the tobacco. Quite redundant if you already have the og

…i have the EDT and the COLOGNE which i like a lot…i could go 8.5 on the EDT, an equal to HABIT ROUGE EDT on a good day…obvious GUERLAIN quality…personally not attracted to the flankers with cherry or tobacco notes…solid line, youthful, a bit showy…

This opens up better than the original with that cherry like accord but within an hour its almost the same as the OG edt. I dont get why this is hyped so much, better get the OG 150 ml for a cheaper price. Both are not top performing but nice scents.

honestly didnt like the cologne, had it like 7 years ago and couldnt wait to finish it , was overspraying it to the gym. liked it at first but few weeks later the floral notes in it with the sweetness started getting to me, want a scent that i liked. people thought it smelt nice on me but i didnt like that type of sweet citrus floral thing
I'm not as high on cologne that others are to be honest. It's solid but not a MUST HAVE, pay more to get it type of hype.
Leather is a bit dirty in Extreme
interesting, I'll have to pay attention on the next wearing and see if I get that. I knew the leather did surprise me here as the strength of it up top.
Alright so you’re reviewing the version which is discontinued now it’s in new bottles and reformulated, what’s the point ?
For the ones that have this specific type if it is indeed reformulated. So if someone is buying a used bottle you can't sample it, you can't test it and you trust my nose you'll know what you get. Actually these kind of reviews are even more important than the new release videos you see from everyone.
