seriously I still can’t believe she’s not American I DEADASS thought she was
I know a girl from Norway and if you didn't know she was Norwegian you would think she's American. Her accent when speaking English is _so_ American. Maybe it's a Scandinavian thing??
@@peachcakes5342 I can assure you that it is NOT a scandinavian thing. Swedish people speaking english makes me cringe so hard
@@mimiko339 😂😂😂
icon dead A LOT of swedes have good English accents. Especially the younger generation.

I think so many of us Americans are shook because living in America is like living in a bubble, at least in my experience. A lot of us don’t realize that so many places around the world are similar to America because we’re mostly educated on the more diverse parts of the world. I’ve lived in America- specifically in Wisconsin all of my life so it’s always so shocking for me to see people like you who move around different COUNTRIES. That’s crazy and so cool!! And you became fluent in English in 6 months???? Girl that’s crazy!!! Americans really do think that America is the center of the world!! Lol
Ayyy I'm also from Wisconsin! :)
Wisconsin gang AYE
I used to live in Wisconsin!
SanJunipero I’m scheduled to go to an IB high school next year, and yes, I can confirm that you are correct. Sadly.
@@milka8934 Don't forget not all Americans are the same and they aren't all that stupid
When you realise how she actually looks German and you never noticed
How can someone look German?just curious..
I actually think she doesnt really look very German just my opinion tho
@@Lisa-jl4fp hard to put down, but i agree
@@schoenwettersli agree too, it's just like how can someone look like a German ? Like what do they need to have to look like it..
In different countries a lot of the time they have different facial features/ structures (like eyes, lips, jaw line, nose etc). I’m not sure if this makes any sense but it’s just something I’ve noticed. Hope this helped
This is SO crazy interesting, Hannah!!

Wow this was really interesting! I would've never guessed that you've lived in so many places and aren't American without this video
Haha it was VERY obvious to me once she made that school video. I was like, "Woah. No school here looks like that!" 😂
Genevieve Cai same but I think her room looks kinda European though
three countries isnt "so many"
@@BunBun-vj2gy it is to me, I grew up in America and only america

edit: okay umm i didn't even notice this got so many likes but i'm shook
morgan eblin omg same! Haha😂
I have been living in the same state for most of my life since I was a toddler. I have never left the country either but hopefully will next summer.:)
morgan eblin moving around isnt as great as it seems. for some people / for her, it may be nice but ive moved around a lot and i would love to just have stayed in one place
woop i've lived in the same state for most of my life minus 2 years in florida but i've been to 7 different schools until i settled somewhere in 5th grade. i know it's hard but i mean the places she's seen at such a young age that i may never see, outside of the united states. i doubt she's very upset she's seen such beautiful things and places.
•Ava Elizabeth• well i hope you get to leave the country to see something new then, good luck girly :)
You probably got the “American” accent from that time when you we’re living in China as the international schools have a lot of people from America there. (I know people who went to and international school in China and that’s what they said soo...)
iiiLozza xoxo yeah most people in international schools in China just have Americans accents even if they aren’t American - I was in an international school in Hk for 11 years

Gurl I feel you. I grew up in Cambodia until I was like 11, then moved to Indonesia and when I was like 17 we moved to Qatar but I'm originally from New Zealand and when I was a kid I had the thickkkkkest American accent. International schools with heaps of American teachers is why my accent was that way
Becka girl same ! i was born in slovakia and moved to qatar when i was one, lived there for 13 years and then moved to england. i haven’t met any third culture kids here in england though so it’s so nice to find people who relate (other than my friends from qatar ofc because they’re basically all third culture kids too)
wait until you go to uni! they're usually super international so there are tonss of third culture kids.
such a amazing life! I feel you!
Becka wow really? How many years you live in Indonesia
i moved to qatar when i was 9 till i was 17 x
hopefully this explains everything for you guys that have wondered ahaha

i can relate to this hahah my dad is norwegian and my mum is english and i was born in jamaica then we have my older brother who was born in south korea and married a german woman who had his 2 kids in america and we've all eventually moved to england so we all speak several different languages lol i want to keep this 'tradition' going with my boyfriend as i'm jamaican and he's irish so where should we go to have our kids? maybe australia hahah
miss cornelius Mexico
Or Spain
Hawaii, Brazil, Russia, and many more. Maybe you should have a child in a continent that's not in the family yet. Not Antarctica ofc.
Yes Australia hahaha
that's interesting maybe you should start a youtube channel
Every German I've spoken to seriously has some amazing English knowledge (accent too). That's impressive to me bcs half of the people in my country are very bad at it
Not really😂 I live in Germany and there are LITERELLY 4 people at my school that speak English
wierd_ potato what kind of school do you go to haha? I live in germany aswell and everybody around me can speak english pretty well...
@@lillym8196 i live in Saarland😂
Where in Germany are you? I live near osnabruck and hardly anyone speaks English. Germans I thought are notoriously known for not speaking English. Even if they do, they'd rather speak German. English is definitely not the second language here.
June Kirri hier kann auch jeder ziemlich gut englisch, hh
I’m American born but I lived in Germany and Korea for the first 10 years of my life. I only lived oversees because my dad was in the millitary and now I’ve been living in the states for 4 years now

I can definitely hear a slight accent so I’m not surprised although you do seem like you have lived in America at some point
hailey rae im american and i hear NO accent sis
Its Okay Buttercup so am I .. just personal perception as you have yours too.. there is no pure accent but more of a twang if that makes sense
Yeah but if she hadn’t said anything I wouldn’t have noticed it tbh
Its Okay Buttercup english isn’t my first language and it’s easier to tell when you’ve heard people’s accents who don’t have english as my first language. people hear things differently and just because u don’t hear an accent it doesn’t mean other people don’t.
I dont hear anything. Maybe im deaf.
ur German is actually pretty good not gonna lie

I go to an international school. A lot of people that go to my school’s parents’ work for the UN, UNICEF, World Bank, Red Cross, etc. I’ve lived in a bunch of places as well just because we want to live around. Now my dad is running for president in the country we’re in. I go to an IB and MYP school as well
president of the country? that's insane! where do you live?
sic sameeee I’ve moved around a lot. My mom works for UN and my dad works for World bank so I can relate
Was he elected?
Goodluck to your dad!
chloe what did they study??
Before I discovered your channel I didn't think very many people on youtube, especially youtubers, were third culture kids that lived abroad. Now, I get to watch "Day in the Life" videos that make more sense to me because I'm at an international school as well. Thank you for giving others a glimpse into a world that not very many people are a part of and thank you for creating content that makes sense to TCKs.
Wow finally someone I can compare myself too!! My dad is from Australia and my mom is German and I lived in Sydney until I was 8! Then my mom got an offer to move to Singapore bc of her job, so I stayed there until I was 13! Now I’m living in Germany for about 2 years and I love it!!! 😍 I can speak English, German and Mandarin just like u ☺️
Julia Jordyy I am from Australia and I lived in Sydney till I was 9, but now I live in Germany but we are about to move to New York or back to Australia
Julia Jordyy what job did your mom have?
eek my dad is austalian and my mum is german too! i lived in adelaide until i was 5 then i moved to germany, travelled the world, lived in greece and now im back in germany for 1 1/2 years :)
Vjdbshsvehe dude same but in Hong Kong and I'm French and now I'm in france for the next 2 years hahaha
nina that’s so cool
i can definitely hear a very slight german accent... that must be so weird when that’s your first language and you don’t even speak it accent free lol
same, i heard it once when she said singapore, and the "s" sound was more german-sounding
also when she says “I/ I’m” or “guys”. she pronounces it more like “ai/aim” and “gais” instead of “uhy/ uhym” and “guhys”
Hi
Tumble Weed 3:34 rural* too very german I’d say because for us Americans we say rural, singular
There is no such thing as "accent free"
I’m so bad at language and I honestly admire so much how you managed to learn it in roughly six months!
I can relate to this, I've also lived in several countries. For a while, I was upset that I didn't have many experiences other kids have but now I've learned to be grateful for it :)
i am dutch and when i speak english people always think im american and they wonder how i speak that good without a dutch accent my answer is: netflix and youtube :’) no i did learn it in school but not fluently
I have some friends that speak dutch as well!
🇳🇱🇳🇱
Maybe not with the cringy accent, but your weird sentence structure gives it away regardless.
I realized that when I was travelling through the Netherlands. most of the series and movies are in english because they are not synchronised. so most dutch people are really good in speaking english
Alana omg same i am from luxembourg and i have english since 2 years in school but i learn it mostly from youtube lmao
Study in Canada!!! If you like the city life, Vancouver! It is a huge city but also a short drive away from the beauty of the mountains and lakes :)

Liberty Ice wow, i'm costa rican and i just hope you had fun living there
sounds like an amazing childhood!
Liberty Ice no way i lived in malawi too! 🇲🇼
I loved staying in Malawi, what was your experience with it?
Ann Andrew I was quite young when I lived there, so for me everything was fascinating. I lived on over an acre of land and I used to run around all the time with my street dogs. At night hyenas would come up to the gate of my house and I used to look at their feet form under the gate or through holes in our fences. Overall I found it to be so much fun since being so young I didn’t question anything, instead I just did and it lead to some amazing memories!
I loved this video! I've never lived in any other place from where I live currently, but I do go to an international school and I know how hard it is to explain these things to people! just subbed!!
I feel like u might have an American accent because usually at international schools a lot of students are American so u might have developed the accent from that. I lived in France for 1 year and definitely noticed that at my international school xoxox
hahaha ur so right I went to an international school in Abu Dhabi and everyone formed the same weird mixed accent of like British, American and Australian 😂
Most tcks who grew up in multiple countries sound American or speak with an American accent esp considering the international schools they attend which are either British or American.
Also it would be really cool hearing more about Singapore and such!!
I can hear a slight accent in your voice now that you mention everything
Lacee Koch yes i hear german a little bit in places which i’ve never done before
I can definitely hear the German now
@@sophieglew3039 I don't hear the German accent
Lacee Koch It’s the first video that I saw from her and I thought she was an estonian speaking english very well which i found very confusing. After hearing that her mom is finnish it all made sense cause finnish is very similar to estonian. As an estonian I could hear that she has an accent. But her english is amazing
Grete Liis Vain she can’t even have a Finnish accent bc first of all she can’t even speak Finnish bc her mum speaks Swedish and i mean it’s her 3rd language why would she have an accent
This is so relatable!! Thank you so much for explaining what it's like as a third culture kid
Wow this is amazing Hannah! What a journey you've been on!
I'm so happy you made this video!!! I am originally from Argentina but I've never lived there. I was born in the U.K. And then moved to the Caribbean (trinidad and Tobago) and then after 4 years I moved to Houston for 6 years. I then moved to England for two years and now this is my second year in the Netherlands. I'm so happy we can relate!! I've also been in an international school my whole life.
i just clicked on this video because it was in my recommended and im shook because we're literally the same person lmao. I'm also a junior doing IB in my third country I've lived in??? theres so little third culture kids I know online so this is pretty cool yuh
ikr i wish more people talked about it!
exactly!!! like we know each other in real life because most of us attend the same international schools and stuff but nobody talks about it on the internet?? thats why im super glad you uploaded this
Hiiii
I just wanted to ask what does third culture exactly mean? Like is it that you lived in three countries or does it also have to do with the international schools? It sounds sooo cool :)) I’m from romania but actually I’m hungarian so am i second culture? Haha
third culture basically means you're someone who grew up in different countries/cultures than where you're originally from for a big chunk of your developmental years (aka your childhood). So you don't completely fit into any culture since you kind of adapt to many different cultures/people. I guess you could say that you're also a third culture kid depending on how different Romania and Hungary are as well as how long you've lived in either place!
Thank you, this cleared it up for me 😅
This sounds so fascinating and fun! You’re also absolutely stunning, I’m jealous 😍❤️
Really cool to see this cuz I relate. My parents are also of two different nationalities and I have moved around a bit, but to me it was more of a back and forth thing rather than moving to various locations. Really interesting video.
hahahah i'm so glad you made this video because I've been wanting to know for so long!!
Yess!! Singapore is seriously the best! I realized you lived there when watching one of your day in my life’s and I was like hold up that is definitely Singapore! I went this summer to visit family and I vlogged so much. Literally it’s the best place ever ❤️

Finally, I have lived in Barbados, America, Kuwait, The Gambia, and now Turkey. I mostly went to International and British schools. I love seeing the third culture kids on the internet. It's really cool to see you sharing this. I've lived in America and part of my family is American,. I was born in Canada and my most of my mother's side is living in Canada or Jamaica since she was born in Jamaica. My best friend is Dutch, Assyrian and she speaks four languages. I know English, French, and Patois. I go to an International School and it's really nice.

It probably wont be free if she is not a german citizen

@@rdmf2921 it is free for everyone even for non-germans
@@meginbelize doesn't mean she's German, you don't get the German citizenship just because you were born in Germany

Growing up overseas is so fun, it makes you more interesting. I grew up in Singapore as well then came back to Australia for college/uni
Wow! listening to you felt like I was listening to another person telling my own story, I as well, am half german, and I am also half Mongolian, but I lived in Beijing for a long time and moved back to germany. I can kind of relate! My mums Australian and my dads Brazilian, and they met in France. I was born in London, England, and moved to Brazil when I was 8. I’m so grateful I’ve been able to learn Portuguese fluently, and I have developed some decent Spanish language skills (Even though Spanish is not the official Brazilian language)!
I’m so shook that you’re from Singapore. I legit thought you were from America. THIS WAS SO COOL TO WATCH
As an IB graduate (I am Lithuanian, and that's where I graduated), and now I'm in my last, aka 3rd year of Uni in UK, I can say that firstly, You will need to put in a lot of effort to graduate from IB programme with decent grades, and it will probably be the hardest thing ever. BUT after it university is sooo easy, like you will know how to properly right essays, what are the requirements, what is referencing and the workload in uni will look easy in comparison to IB. AAAAnd it does change you as a person, you mentally grow so much more than others, as the programme does not necessarily care that you would spell all the words correctly, but it cares that you are thinking outside the box, which isn't likely to happen with any other educational system. GOOD LUCK
My moms from Italy and my dad is from California, USA. But I was born in Budapest Hungary and lived there until I was 15 then I moved to Monaco and still love there. So I speak Italian (3rd best) English (4th best lol) Hungarian (im best at) and French (2nd best)

Hey! I take the IB too. Im a senior and trust me, itll get difficult real soon but you can surely do it!! Good luck!
idk why i was so shook but you literally have a Finnish accent when you speak swedish
Somebody once Told me niin saatana
no it's more of a german accent
She doesnt really have any of those accents, Its American because she speaks such fluent English. And if you grow up speaking English and learning from American teachers then you will likely have an American accent. It would be especially easy for her because of her speaking German and Swedish and those types of languages because that's what English is derived from. So it is less stress on your vocal cords and muscles then it is for someone who speaks Korean to try and learn English. That's something they talk about whenever you're learning a new language.
@@ronswanson3536 she still have an accent though? what are you trying to say?

SINGAPORE? That’s so so so cool! Your town in your vlogs always looks so futuristic and your school looks AMAZING
I feel this on a level like no other. When people ask where I am from, I change the location all the time cause too lazy to explain everything. Dads Norwegian, Moms cuban, born in Cuba, lived there till I was 2, then moved to Mexico till I was 5, then lived between Calgary, Montreal, Vancouver, and a town in Nicaragua all through elementary till 20. Now am living bi-city between that town in Nicaragua and LA. Love reading everyones diverse living situations. I believe it's so good for the future of the world that more people lived in several places growing up instead of in one bubble all their lives. #AllForOpenBoarders
I was wondering whether you have German origins or not because your name, especially your last name, is soo German but I haven't found a connection, well, until now. I think moving around the world like that really widens a person's horizon. I am very interested in more videos about growing up in different cultures! :)
LMAOO WHAT I thought she was from like Michigan or some shit 💀
It’s probably when she learnt english she was taught by an american! :) therefore you would echo certain pronunciation 👍🏼
I live in Southeast Asia & most of the people I know/in my school sound American when speaking English 🤷♀️
Michigan why Michigan? (Lmao tbh she kinda does have a midwestern accent)
I’m from Michigan lol
A Midwestern accent is often taught as the most neutral American accent, so it makes sense that she sounds midwestern.
Cool story Hannah! I’m also a TCK! But not really a kid anymore :p
Awesome to see what you’ve done with your channel and how far you’ve taken it, looks like you put a good amount of effort into your videos.

My mother is British and Swedish but my father is German and polish. I lived in multiple countries (Kenya, Brazil, Senegal, UK) and I never had the feeling of having a proper home. We finally moved to Berlin when I was 8 years old and I’m so happy to be here, I go to an American-German school and everyone is like FLABBERGASTED at how many languages I can speak lmao. I finally have a home and I can steady and close “relationships” with friends and it’s so important to me. Oh, btw, go to Berlin. It’s so cool here!
wtf literally feel like all the third culture kids i've seen on youtube are half finnish haha! so cool that you learned that language as well (in this case swedish), i feel like often english takes over and that gets kind of forgotten since it's not "necessarily" on your daily life. you seem lovely, greetings from finland!
this is great, you’re great, ib high school is great (for real, i was watching your school week vid and i miss it so much )-: college is worst than me cramming infinity subjects, advanced english tests -bc im not american- and my country’s 2893 college application exams)
and you’re a freaking vegan! i’m in love w you
ahahah SO GLAD u like
Whoa! I’m from Canada, is very nice! Cold, but very friendly and very welcoming! We LOVE our international student!
This is so cool!! From second to fourth grade I lived in the Netherlands and I’m currently trying to persuade my parents to move back there!
Languages and cultures really are one of the most interesting things to learn in my opinion. Im half German, grew up in the Netherlands and live in Sweden now. I speak all those languages as well.
She didn’t look American but the accent tripped me up big time
HAHA
sky peters How do you look American? It’s literally the one country on earth where there’s no particular ethnicity and therefore no look.
Thindorama definitely not the only country... Australia, England don’t have a dominant look either
Lauren Silvestro Only more recently and randomly, not by design.
and how do americans look like?
My mother was a third culture kid, but I somehow ended up living in the same town my entire life. 😂😭 That’ll change once I graduate college!!
Ughh!! I know what you mean having to move constantly and getting comfortable just to move again!!! Im a military kid. And its soo difficult!!! Im subbing now😭💜
