    I have never, ever,ever had anyone explain so thoroughly, and yet simply understandable the use on the manual settings of a 35 mm camera. NOT even, or/ and the literature that comes with the camera as what the Steady Craftin Craft man does! You are fabulous!!!, but guess we've all known that for some time. Love what I call your " slow south Louisiana drawl" it is so soothing to listen to. I'm saving this video, getting my camera out and take it off Automatic, and play with it to your video. A neat way to ensure top quality is using a color grading card, so things are always the same color - even with different cameras.
    Manual is like driving a car with a stick, much more control than the automatic transmission. Thanks for the tips - and keep SteadyCraftin 🧦👍

    • @TheCrafsMan
      @TheCrafsMan  4 года назад +5

      A grading card is a fabulous idea! I keep me a white/gray/black one in my camera bag. At one time I was going to get more serious about photography and looked into those white diffusor deals you put over your lens, and take a picture FROM where you'll be shooting, basically collecting the light source colors, and letting the camera use that as the white balance. Really accurate, and great for portraits.

    This is a great video. I'm going to use it to help teach my kids photography. It is rare to use straight Manual mode. That's a hold over from days past, when photographers relied on hand held light meters. Most photographers choose what matters and let the camera's internal light meter handle the rest. If you use manual mode, you really do need to use a light meter (internal to the camera, or hand held) to get readings that give you a starting point to set the camera. Otherwise you just keep adjusting and guessing until it's right. Using one of the semi-automated modes lets the light meter in the camera adjust for you while you set the aspect(s) you want to control. For me, I use Aperture priority when I care about the depth of field, or if I am shooting in a dark area like a museum or late at night, and want to shoot wide open only. I use shutter priority when I am shooting motion shots to make them look right. For example, at the air show, I shoot 1/125, because it makes the planes nice and crisp, but I still get motion blur from the propellers. That gives it a nice action shot appearance. If I shoot too fast, the propellers are frozen with the planes, and it looks like someone broke the passage of time. Digital photography has greatly increased the skill level of us amateur photographers since we get instant feedback and can make adjustments for instant retakes rather than waiting until the film is developed. One last thing for my long winded comment, learn how to frame your picture. It will make a world of difference in the final result. Also, don't be afraid to zoom out a little. You can always crop an image, but you can't add in what's out of frame.
