While there are some good ideas in this, the damp towel is not necessary and if you get it too damp it can disintegrate your otherwise perfect cake while its cooling. Betty Crocker had a better idea too which is to roll it up without the added water and put in the fridge to cool.
Thanks for the reminder on how to do this. My domestic science teacher at schol taught us all how to do this....that was 46 years ago.

Is it regular granulated sugar? I tried this last night and sure enough no cracks but the outside of the cake was very sticky.

Just add 1 more egg using cooking with dog recipe to roll it when its completely cool, I do that all the time.
