Toyota owns 20% of Subaru and Subaru is part of the Toyota Motor Group. Which mean Subaru is part of Toyota's keiretsu. Therefore, it is in the best interest of Toyota for Subaru to use their parts and supply chain partners.

It sucks that the Legacy nameplate goes out like this. It was the car that started STI and did relatively well until Subaru decided to make it the appendage of the Outback. You kind wonder why Subaru didn't seperate the two models and make the Outback its own thing. The Legacy was a sporty Japanese sized sedan/wagon that morphed into a lowered American crossover that Subaru of America lost interest in.
I hope we get the Levorg which has replaced the Legacy in the rest of the world but without the CVT.

The smaller cars sell better in other countries, that’s why in North America we don’t get the sedans any longer. It’s always interesting when you travel overseas and everyone still drives smaller cars versus the giants in North America.

So i am keeping my fingers crossed that the ride won't be wobbly and it retains the character of the outback, plus gives decent mpg. but i don't think they will be plug ins. that will lead to higher tire wear for bigger and heavier cars. but at a minimum if it has Toyota's E-CVT and hybrid system, it will definitely mean a lot especially the ability to drive in EV mode for short distances/ stop and go traffic. Subarus are actually top mpg awd vehicles if you exclude hybrids. Mazda, nissan, honda and even toyota awd vehicles all get less mpg. So once they do become hybrids, i expect them to have similar mpg to the rav 4, highlander and corolla cross. Shoot when subaru loaned me a crosstrek for a week with the 2.5L i got a combined 33mpg. My outback 2.5 fully loaded with 4 adults all their stuff for a week camping trip, 1 single seat kayay and a tandem kayak on the roof with a cargo carrier on the back i still got 28mpg. What non hybrid awd mid size crossover can do that.

Plus it was a heavier cat because of the battery. AWD was on all the time, not on demand so tire wear was higher than a regular crosstrek and it mileage was meh. plus the eCVT fluid had to be changed every 30000 miles like a regular CVT and unlike Toyota eCVT. i was considering a certified used but these aspects turned me off completely

Give us 400ft pounds of torque in the STI with a Hybrid. Toyota can do it for their Tacoma, Absolute zero reason Subaru could not achieve the same result, However, that will be a challenge for their CVT huh. *Sighs*

Everyone needs to stop, transitional technologies are the only way forward starting now. There is nothing in place to either recycle or dispose of that much lithium. GM was on to something a few years ago with an electric vehicle with a small gas powered generator that was not part of the powertrain. Its purpose was to recharge the battery system, thus allowing for unlimited range. A small fuel tank is needed paired to a highly efficient generator. This could almost be retrofitted to current EV vehicles.

I don't like car companies that collaborate or have ownership in the other. You end up with homogeneous cars as one company overtakes the other or holds it back so they dont compete directly. If they have the same engine then what's the point? Look at the BRZ and GR86. Imagine if Subrau built their own sports car. It would be a lot better than that BRZ which was forced on them by Toyota.

So, what could the 3 new CUV/SUV EVs be, Subaru already has the Solterra (aka Toyota bZ4X or RAV4 compact size EV already exists) and we know a 3-row EV CUV is coming (so, an Ascent equivalent), which leaves a subcompact and midsize CUV/SUV, assume a Forester (or Crosstrek) and Outback EV model equivalents, but, why is Toyota/Subaru planning some many EV models, if there's no demand, blame the Japanese on brainwashing the American buyer against EVs because they miss the EV movement and, thus, hurting their own sales in the process, it will be interesting to see what happens in the coming years
