Picking up our dachshund puppy! 1st day at home.

- Today we are picking up our puppy Haggis! He is a wirehaired dachshund puppy and we are so excited to finally welcome him home. This is his drive back and first day at home.
Dachshunds are the best
They really are. I love the mixes myself.

Many puppies when first getting to their new home are very shy and timid. You can right from the start he has a very bold and confident personality.

@@haggisthesausagedog it's our sausage's 1st birthday today ! Though apparently he is still a puppy a while longer ? Aren't they the best dogs? I love all dogs, the differences but these daschunds have so much character ❤️❤️

What a Blessing to watch! I remember 3 years ago picking up our little Ladybug (aka Bug .... 'BugBug') .... Only a 30 minute drive, but cold , rainy and pitch dark out. Bless her little heart, she whined and whimpered all the way home. I told her mommy, "You're in for a long night of her crying", which woukd have been well understandable. We got her home and in the house and put her down on the floor .... She dud the obvious curious snooping thru every room .... once back in the livingroom, up the pet steps onto the sofa, and at that point she took over! Somehow she knew she was 'home ' ..... She settled in, just like she was born there. Now, the intelligent, sassy, playful baby we'd hoped she'd be. Be Blessed and enjoy your baby!! She's a sweetie!

I'm sure they will. My little one actually lives next door with her mommy ... Each evening at around 5, I go for my daily time for our ride, and an hour or so of ball fetch. Of course when time comes I leave to come home, she pulls the pouty thing .... I'm sure you know all about their pouty thing. Lol .... They know how to work us. If I mention another r.i.d.e., she's instantly a happy pup again! (Gotta spell it out, cuz she knows all of the good words! ) I'm sure you're tuned in on that too! Lop.... Enjoy a Blessed Christmas, and don't spoil Haggis with too many gifts!!

Last December we adopted our new puppy and oh what a feeling having a new baby. ❤ enjoy your new baby. Look up the new recommendations for spay and neuter. We are waiting until our lab is 18 months old before we fix our girl. Her bones and body will get the benefit of her hormones to come to full maturity for the longest possible life with the fewest human caused health issues.
Congratulations! Its such a joy! We also waited with neutering. We now do a 6 month chemical neutering to see how it affects him, as it might not really be necessary in the end.. Have fun with the new pup!! 😘

Just a suggestion which I hope you don't mind... My Mitzi died in the early 90's of cancer. Today, roughly 1 in every 2 will succumb to the dreaded disease. I wish I knew then what I've since learned. May I suggest that you get a hold of 'The Truth About Pet Cancer' series and watch all episodes. It may re-air for free some time or be on sale and you may find clips on YT, but do try to watch the entire series. Your sweet fellow is still young and any info you can arm yourself with now, will help ensure he has the best and longest life possible... Good luck!
Thanks so much for that! It is a crazy number indeed. I’ll watch the full series but already found a summary of the hazards and there is a lot of good tips there! We already try to keep things as natural as possible and give him what we would also give ourselves in terms of food, cleaning product, etc so to speak, but there is much more to do!
@@haggisthesausagedog That's so good to know! In our case, she developed tumours at shot sites and the rabies shot also "took down" her pancreas... Glad you're being pro-active.
@@TVY2013 ah thats so sad! Over here the rabies shot is mandatory in order to cross any EU borders but luckily its only every 3 or 5 years now..

Of the three coat varities, the wire has a real personality, but is highly mischevious, but even after he has shreeded your carpets you will love even more, even when naughty he will make you smile

Ill never forget the day we picked up our little wirehaired dachshund. It was my birthday and I thought it was going to be like any other birthday till my husband gave me my card. Which had a picture of a wirehaired Dachshund. I thought the card came that way but it turned out that my husband used a picture of the puppy that he got me and had a card made. Inside the card he wrote, There was a promise that I made and you dont have to look further than the front of this card to see it. I had Dottie for 11 years and she passed away in November.
