"A small dog needs as much discipline as a big dog." YES. So much yes. Thank you, Victoria. You're such a champ. I think that too many of the people who are attracted to the small, "cute" dogs are just oblivious that their dogs are still dogs, and need to be trained as dogs. Just because it looks like a plushie, doesn't mean it'll act like one. If you spoil your dog, and REWARD it for awful behaviour, it's going to turn into an awful little brat. (eg: intro, dog bites cat, family member grabs him and holds him in a hug. What the hell?) Your dog doesn't hate you when you discipline it. Your dog doesn't get hurt feelings when you teach it how to behave, using its own language. You have no reason to feel guilt for disciplining your dog. This is anthropomorphism, and does no favours to yourself or your dog. Your dog is a dog is a dog.
My girlfriend has a very spoiled old chihuahua that gets whatever she wants. She’ll start growling and barking at anything and if you come near her she’ll bite you. I continuously tell them to train her but they do not listen. They’re absolutely oblivious to what they did that made her that way but it’s bc they always spoiled her so much, she’s had no discipline at all whatsoever her whole life.
@@gabychuels2955 The funny thing is that the more you spoil your dog (and the less discipline you give him), the more anxious and unhappy the dog becomes. It's almost exactly the opposite to what they think will happen, and it's not good for ANYONE. The dog then feels the need to take on a leadership role, because there's no structure or routine set by his humans. Your dog is not a child - he doesn't get hurt feelings when you discipline him in a way he understands! He doesn't feel a lack of freedom in family decision-making. When you discipline in a way he understands, create structure and routines, the dog feels like it can relax, be more carefree, because he understands what's expected of him, and YOU'RE taking on the leadership role, so he doesn't have to. It's not cute behaviour. It's not acceptable. A small, stressed out, anxious dog can still do a LOT of harm to someone, if they get too close - enough that you may have to have him put down. If you love your dog, you'll train him. It's that simple. I just don't understand how people can delude themselves into thinking that spoiling a dog makes him happy, when all behaviours show the opposite. STOP SPOILING AND CODDLING YOUR (especially little) DOGS!
I'd even argue that small dogs need MORE discipline/training that big dogs, because it's about nurture AND nature. A lot of people don't see a problem breeding a small, fearful dog because it doesn't feel scary to us. In general, people care more about a large dog's mentality before letting it breed, so small dogs are often burdened with more genetic baggage. Plus, you have things like potty training that seems to take longer for a lot of small dogs, and a lot of things seem more scary to a small dog, so they may need more desensitization training to be confident out and about, especially around other dogs.
Thank you so much for that comment. I‘ll share it with my boyfriend because his parents have a Shi Tzu and it doesn‘t even know one single command. He is so spoiled that he‘s getting sick because they feed him from the table and he vomits at least once a day. I tried everything but they won‘t listen.
@@janavennemann4671 There was an episode of Jackson Galaxy's show in which the lady was CONVINCED that her cat was basically telepathically begging her to feed him her food, but the cat was really just glancing at her. Jackson tried to help her, but she kept feeling guilty and making excuses, even though her cat was, at this point, obese and ill. Making your pet unhealthy doesn't make it happy! Spoiling your pet doesn't make it happy! Allowing it to be able to communicate with you (in its own language), feel comfortable enough to socialise with other dogs, and be healthy enough to PLAY, like a real dog, will! Knowing that you're responsible and confident, so he doesn't have to be anxious and on guard, all of the time, will! I feel like people who do these kinds of things haven't looked into dog behaviour and training, AT ALL. A dog is not a cat. A dog needs YOU to keep it mentally and physically stimulated, because they've been bred for various types of WORK. They thrive when they're physically and mentally CHALLENGED. We've lived alongside dogs for around 40,000 years, by some estimates. They were our FIRST domesticated animal. They were bred for working alongside us! So spoiling your dog, doing nothing but dressing up and cuddling your dog, doesn't do him any good, whatsoever. He hates his life, because he has no stimulation! He's NEVER challenged! And, often, when dogs are given no stimulation, they start to become anxious, and overreact to ALL stimuli. They often start to destroy your home and belongings, because they're so, so bored. If people want that for their dogs... They're either ignorant or uncaring. I hope it's the former. I wish you luck in convincing them. Instead of talking crap about the dog and their ignorance, which would be my first instinct, perhaps try something like... "I think [dog] would enjoy more mental stimulation. Have you ever considered trying something like puzzle food dispensers, or something? Or even training with verbal or hand commands? I think some mental stimulation would help prevent him from being bored!" "I think it would be good for [dog] to go to the dog park to socialise him! I bet he'd enjoy it, even if it's rocky, at first (may require desensitisation training. I just think of it like, that I wouldn't like only ever seeing members of a different species (or, if they have another dog, ...and that I also wouldn't like only ever seeing the same dog, always). Dogs are social creatures, so I think he'd enjoy meeting stranger dogs, and learning how to interact!" I don't know, fully. But, I think if you start off kind of "attacking" their dog or their ignorance and irresponsibility, they automatically shut you out. So if you REALLY want them to change their behaviour, you may have to find a way to word it so that it comes off as in the dog's interest, or their interest, somehow. It may be a difficult task, but I think it would be worth it! Truly, good luck to you. I'll wish for your success!
I don't like cats, do love dachshunds, and I *still* was horrified for that poor cat. My little longhaired dachshund was sweet to every animal she met. It doesn't have to be like it was at the start of the video (clearly, since little Rufus is practically an angel once he calms down and stops being scared of everything!)
I felt bad but since cats and dogs (?) can be carried by their necks (like how their mother/father would hold them...since they don't have hands), I don't think it was hurt too much??
I love British shows, they always treat the lead people (from the ones I’ve seen females) like the are the best/badass people ever and I honestly love that.
I mean, it doesn't bother babies as much. Babies need clothes and dogs usually don't. If someone enjoys dressing up their baby in cute clothes, it's not harmful. But it can be stressful for a dog. Fun clothes are only temporary, for Halloween and for photos, then they come off.
@@indiciaobscure We don't do stuff strictly based off need. Just because something can be harmful doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. You can condition a dog to enjoy or tolerate clothes the same way you condition them to walk properly, let go of toys when you want, etc.
@@lemontea128 You know, people can really step up when they have a kid in a way they don't when they have a dog. We still have instincts that helps us care for our offspring. Yeah I wondered that too. I’m thinking the whole “turn Rufus into a baby “ idea set them all of on the wrong foot. Down hill spiral from there. Poor Rufus.
Can we also take a moment to appreciate the irony of the family watching Supernanny in the intro? Another British lady who goes to people's houses and sorts out their family problems. It's this show but with kids. Edit 1:35

I love dachshunds. I commend Holly for realizing that she is not ready to have a baby. The well behaved Rufus is such a blessing to Holly and her family. God bless them, one and all.
People undervalue cats. Especially dog people, who claim to love animals. Their love really stops at dogs because any other animal doesn’t have the tendency to obey blindly, which is what they like out of their dog in the first place.
The mother is kinda secretly awesome. She tells Ben even before Victoria does so to stay away from the dog when he is angry, and at several times she shows rather understanding of the dogs perspective.
I love dachshunds... They're my favourite breed. My parents got me one for my tenth birthday and she was my little darling for 12 long years. I'll never love a dog again the way I loved her. She'll always have a special place in my heart.
I had one at 17 that I loved very much and I got one 35 years later and I honestly think I love my little dog now even more so definitely get another one if you can
I think having her babysit a baby would've been more effective if you can find one and a mother willing.... but potty training a puppy the first few months is very exhausting. but it is a good idea to keep her busy and distracted and something to focus on rather than getting pregnant.
No... not really. It is not the same thing. Having her care for a child on a regular basis on the other hand. And letting her know just how easily young moms end up in poverty.
Teaching the girl responsibility for another's life is not a bad idea. Learning responsibility such as picking up poo and feeding and walking the dog is small training for babies which may come in the future. It is all about learning responsibility and also having a cute small animal of your own to love and protect.

These videos are actually helpful for me, someone with a massive phobia. Recently, a German shepherd bolted across the street and jumped up at me. I turned away, gave it a loud 'Ah Ah!' and it stopped jumping. It sniffed me, I told the dog "come, let's go" and lead (led? Sorry, I am Dutch) the dog across the street, back to the owner who clearly had no control over her. Instead of being afraid of the dog, I was angry with the owner. And I felt so proud. Thanks for these videos, they improve my life as well. Dogs seem to be wonderful after all. ... oops, I rambled. Haha. I wanted to share this.
As in 99% of cases it's the owners who caused it and not the dog, but my goodness this family was determined to learn and work on these issues but also they were clearly working fully together as doesn't always happen in many episodes. A great outcome and lovely to see the wee dog so happy and relaxed ❤️
She apparently had zero clue about raising a child either. Lives had home, is very young doesn’t appear to have a partner or husband but she wants a baby. But does she want a toddler? A child? A teenager?
16:14 Victoria: ‘If I just looked at you like that’ *leans in really close* Ben: gulps and nods, clearly mildly aroused Victoria: That’s a bit sca... Ben: pLEaSe hAVe My cHILdreN
Oh wow, screw Ben. No wonder this pupper behaves the way he does, I swear some people just believe that acting that way towards a dog will have zero effects and the dog won't even remember it happened. The owner is bad too, but purposely winding a dog up like that is really going to end up with someone being hurt. All doggos are good boys 😢 it's always the owners fault if they're behaving badly.
This is the same with people. Sometimes adults think it's a "play" to tease the children by taking away and hiding their things. The children get angry and start screaming and crying, then the adults get mad at them and discipline them. They don't realise it's their faults that make the children misbehave.
this is one of the most pure episodes of this show i’ve seen, the family was so cooperative and didn’t argue with victoria, and in return they had such fast results and they were so good with their training. a great example!
Mines perfectly fine, does get annoying when she wakes me up at three in the morning wanting to go outside or digging in my bedsheets to be comfy. Extra blanket problem solved, goes restroom before bed, doesn’t change a thing....
Everytime I see these videos, I feel so blessed to have 2 very well behaved, funny dogs and 1 sweet, sweet cat. I feel like we lucked out. We are not chill, but our animals, *chef kiss* 🤌
The other two dogs are beautifully behaved. If those two are trained, Rufus SHOULD be better behaved. Clearly no one bothered to train poor Rufus. Victoria did a superb job as always.
Yep...new puppy gets given to an essentially irresponsible teenager to teach her a lesson that she's not ready to be a mother. Now everyone's shocked that said teenager didn't do a good job at "raising" the pup.
I think that that was the point, really. People don't treat tiny dogs like actual dogs, and the dogs just do what they want because of it. I have always treated my Doxie like a dog, even though he is smaller than my cat.
I think small dogs actually need more discipline because they’re so stubborn and quite arrogant, so happy to see the family show they live their dog by working hard to correct it’s bad habits 💕

I think some mental stimulation would help prevent him from being bored!"
"I think it would be good for [dog] to go to the dog park to socialise him! I bet he'd enjoy it, even if it's rocky, at first (may require desensitisation training. I just think of it like, that I wouldn't like only ever seeing members of a different species (or, if they have another dog, ...and that I also wouldn't like only ever seeing the same dog, always). Dogs are social creatures, so I think he'd enjoy meeting stranger dogs, and learning how to interact!"
I don't know, fully.

I know, the cat wasn’t being bad either.
Yeah but I think it was a surprised/shocked/nervous laugh more than an amused one
I felt bad but since cats and dogs (?) can be carried by their necks (like how their mother/father would hold them...since they don't have hands), I don't think it was hurt too much??
ai chan their held by the scruff of their but their mothers dont bite its actual body
The dog walk was hilarious. Those two poor well behaved big dogs have to keep turning around coz Rufus is acting up 😅😅😅

When you have a baby, you can't play fashion show ether.
Living creatures aren't dolls.
Brian Lewis you know “fashion” neither harms a dog nor human when done right?
I mean, it doesn't bother babies as much. Babies need clothes and dogs usually don't. If someone enjoys dressing up their baby in cute clothes, it's not harmful. But it can be stressful for a dog. Fun clothes are only temporary, for Halloween and for photos, then they come off.
@@indiciaobscure We don't do stuff strictly based off need. Just because something can be harmful doesn't mean you shouldn't do it. You can condition a dog to enjoy or tolerate clothes the same way you condition them to walk properly, let go of toys when you want, etc.
I mean if the child gets older and clearly doesn't want to do that kind of stuff then they shouldn't be forced to
You Are it depends
I can't fathom how they already have two, seemingly well behaved, dogs but make so many Rookie mistakes.
Spaniels tend to be less stubborn and the parents probably left the training completely to their daughter instead of helping.
Ikajo this shows that she shouldn’t have a baby like she wanted
@@lemontea128 You know, people can really step up when they have a kid in a way they don't when they have a dog. We still have instincts that helps us care for our offspring. I agree that 18 is waaaay to early but it was irresponsible of her parents to just give her a dog instead. But a dog is a dog and a baby is a baby.
Yeah I wondered that too. I’m thinking the whole “turn Rufus into a baby “ idea set them all of on the wrong foot. Down hill spiral from there. Poor Rufus.
Dachshunds are SO STUBBORN. You can't be chill with them, you can't give in even once or they think they win.

Did that dog really bite the cats face/head?? How come they really just sit there like "🤪 UgghHgZ"
People undervalue cats. Especially dog people, who claim to love animals. Their love really stops at dogs because any other animal doesn’t have the tendency to obey blindly, which is what they like out of their dog in the first place.
Yeah... on the other hand, the cat could probably scratch him up pretty badly if it wanted.

Okay, but getting a dog to show her how hard it is to raise a child is genius.
I agree. That nipped the "I want a baby" in the bud.
I think having her babysit a baby would've been more effective if you can find one and a mother willing.... but potty training a puppy the first few months is very exhausting. but it is a good idea to keep her busy and distracted and something to focus on rather than getting pregnant.
It is if you can't take care of a dog right you should not be allowed to have children

This is the same with people. Sometimes adults think it's a "play" to tease the children by taking away and hiding their things.
